blacKDalia:It's NA. I hate that vehicle as it offers ZERO Protection. Can't we put Proforce APC in use in NE? It's better at least. Occupants are safe and can come out immediately to return fire while the gunner also suppress. Most of these things are what could have been avoided. |

tdayof:1st pic medical kits saline bottles 2nd pic the army had to tow the vehicle so engines or something else was disabled / destroyed . interesting the windshield wipers r not in their usual position 3rd pic is same vehicle of 2nd pic and has a impact point on the windscreen, bullet ? r the windows bullet proof ? 4th pic the rear door of white car is interesting, looks like sign of burning fire was internal and the flames came out, the bumper damage is interesting maybe it was struck/cornered overall view no targeting of the vehicles in general by gunfire the law enforcement vehicles r disabled and had to be towed for recovery except the white one on the unfortunate day was it raining hard or very dusty conditions ? |

nemesis2u:Thanks for your analysis. The vehicles are among those that encountered an ambush. It's obvious the vehicles were not targeted at all as there's no trace of RPG fire/ sharpenel or bullet holes. ************ Bidexii another thing that comes to my mind is that, the guys might have gone down from their vehicle to provide fire for their partners. I guess during this, they got shot. |

persius555:I am not sure how you are coming to your deductions. From my understanding of our approach we still operate with an assumption of deterrence, i.e. moving in large convoys to ensure security its not rocket science to know NA movements they are not moving in small units with stealth but long 100 vehicle convoys under escort and over large distances. In some instances with regularity like clock work. So update your analysis please and do not assume boko are stupid. In Afghanistan even travelling in large convoys of 25+ plus vehicles which would all be ARMOURED at least Stanag level 3 but usually much more with the American procured MRAPS. But nothing was done in clockwork regularity never taking the same route twice with regularity, zig zagging going off road to mitigate IED threats. Compare what the NA does sticks to main roads and routes highly trained combatants in soft skinned vehicles. HMG mounted with minimal protection and not stabilised on soft skinned pick ups. Also till date we do not have definitive IFV. I wonder about the communication infrastructure, situational awareness and defensive / offensive contingency strategy and plan. These incidents are not about boko ingenuity and intelligence but structural handicaps and failings on our behalf. The amount of misinformation that came from the NA smacks of very little battle field management and communication but rather chaos and confusion. ADMITTING FAILURE IS THE FIRST STEP TO VICTORY The video below and the supposed strategic analysis that stretches the meaning of strategic to the extreme, leaves much to be desired, i am being very diplomatic and this is an explanation by a senior officer of the NA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzABrTtdTrk |

tdayof:So how come when the ambush started there was no single bullet hit on those vehicles even if they dash down for cover and they exchange fire. . Only God knows what transpired. |

komekn:Defence spokes sperson still looking for excuses to cover-up that BHT has Intel from an insider on there movement. The army should be always prepared to confront the enemy even if there is an informant/collaborators within the military. They should look for a way of fishing out these culprits and do justice to them. Hence forth the army should invest in ISR & Intel gathering it will serve has a last resort in delecate missions. |

NAF COMMENCES TRAINING OF ANOTHER BATCH OF SPECIAL FORCES The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has approved the training of 450 carefully selected Regiment personnel as Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Special Forces to be trained in 3 batches, the first of which was formally flagged off during the weekend. The training is taking place at the NAF Regiment Training Centre in Kaduna but is being conducted by FOUR-TROOP, a reputable foreign military training organization from Israel. It is aimed at further developing the capacity of the personnel to fight under all types of terrains and weather conditions. At the end of the 9-week course, successful participants would be deployed to defend NAF air assets and bases as well as critical national infrastructure and assets like airports and oil installations, among others. The Special Forces would also be required to take the battle to the adversaries whenever necessary. While flagging off the training of the first batch of 150 personnel, the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command, Air Vice Marshal Samson Akpasa, stated that a robust counter-force to respond to any contingency was vital in Nigeria’s contemporary security environment, which was characterized by insurgency, militancy, oil theft, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other vices. He added that as conflicts become more complex and diverse, a force multiplier unit such as the Special Forces would enable the tactical commander gain an upper hand in battle. He, therefore, urged the trainees to be physically fit, mentally alert and psychologically sound in order to learn and assimilate instructions that would be passed to them in the course of their training programme. He then thanked the foreign partners, especially the ‘FOUR TROOP” company, for accepting to conduct the training. Earlier, the Commandant of the NAF Regiment Training Centre, Group Captain Isaac Subi, had disclosed that the NAF Regiment Specialty was a blend of the Army Infantry and Artillery Corps. He also described the Special Forces an invaluable adjunct to conventional forces and that they are capable of sophisticated, specialized and measured response in a complex air-ground environment covering both land and sea areas. The decision to invite the Israelis to conduct the training in Nigeria, in conjunction with other Nigerian instructors, rather than conducting the training overseas, is aimed at further developing the instructional capacity of NAF personnel while also saving the nation additional expenses in foreign currency. Getting ambushed in a war zone characterised with attrition warfare is not a suprise but an expectation. The idea that you get suprised by an ambush seems absurd. You know you are going get ambushed, you just don't exactly when, but you are fully expectant and prepared. Battlefield management says you have a offensive and defensive contingency plan that includes back up support. But it seems basic battlefield communication management were non existent in this incident. Add to that not so long g ago a group of women were abducted in a military convoy all within the same vicinity. If you ambush a French convoy in Mali within 6/7 minutes there will be airsupport from Rafael fighter jets or similar. 15 minutes there will be helicopter gunships. Within 20 minutes back up support from ground units. within the additional time frame you will have Drones tracking for the next 24 hrs. Basically the intended ambush by the terrorists will be turned around against them and render it a suicide mission for the terrorists. None of them will escape the idea of taking hostages non existent. I do not see this as a Boko informants at work. I see this as complacency on the part of the NA. |
