A man, his wife and two children on Friday July 28th died in their sleep after inhaling fumes from a generator kept inside their house in Obajana area of Kogi state.

Tension started after the man identified as Mr. Ayodele Segun was not seen by his neighbours the following day.

According to reports, the deceased's cousin, Chief Richard Asaje said they had gone to check on him following the stench coming from his house but found out that his door was locked.

Policemen from Obajana Division were alerted and after forcefully opening the door, the decomposing bodies were discovered.

Just recently, a similar case was reported from ph, family of 5 in that case.

What I don't understand is how people comfortably go to bed with a running gen nearby.

For God's sake, relevant agencies have been drumming the health implication of the intake of carbon monoxide right into our ears.

Sometimes, we need to listen to messages being passed even if the messenger is a perceived enemy.

Anyway, may their souls rest in peace.

Carbon Monoxide

Using a generator indoors CAN KILL YOU IN MINUTES.

Generator exhaust contains high levels of carbon monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas you cannot see or smell.

If you can smell the generator exhaust, you are breathing CO.

But even if you cannot smell the exhaust, you could be breathing CO.

Never use a generator inside homes, garages, crawlspaces, or other partly enclosed areas.

Deadly levels of carbon monoxide can build up in these areas.

Using a fan or opening windows and doors does NOT supply enough fresh air.

ONLY use a generator outdoors and far away from open windows, doors, and vents. Make sure to direct the generator's exhaust away from these openings because they can pull in generator exhaust.

The generator must be at least 20 ft away from your home.

I feel that some neighbor who felt disturbed by the time, came and redirected it to the neighbors house.

and since he was already asleep by then he couldn't save himself..

All because a nation with practically all the resources of life at its disposal and nearly 60 years after independence cant provide the most basic of needs to its people.. Shame, real real real shame on this country.. Remember what they say about a fool at 40? I hope Nigeria is not on a permanent fool's journey/errand of no return cos its scary..
