PRESS RELEASE

RE-COUNTRY REPORTS ON TERRORISM 2016 RELEASED BY UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DEPARTMENT OF STATE

1. It has been observed by the Defence Headquarters that, Nigerians and the general public is being misinformed on the “Country Reports on Terrorism 2016” released by the United States of America (USA) Department of State. The misinformation cuts across sensational headlines in some print and electronic media to prejudiced comments and analysis of the report among others, which are detrimental to Nigeria’s national security and interest. Therefore, it is instructive to present the report in the right and objective perspective to Nigerians.

2. Country reports on terrorism is submitted on annual basis in compliance with Title 22 of the United States Code, Section 2656f (the “Act”) by the Department of State to Congress. It is aimed at providing report on those countries and groups that meet the criteria of the Act. The report used to be published as “Patterns of Global Terrorism” up till 2003, but was changed to the present title beginning from 2004. Thus, against the contrary picture given to Nigerians and the general public on the report in question, it did not cover only Nigeria but covered; Niger, Cameroon and Chad. That is , all the countries affected by Boko Haram Terrorists menace.

3. It is necessary to point out that, the USA does not publish this report with the objective of causing restiveness among the populace, but to draw governments attention to areas that could be improved upon to tackle global terrorism. Thus, credit must be given to the USA for its strategic global effort towards ensuring a more secure world. As such, Nigeria and the general public should not believe the misinformants whose intentions are to pitch the Nigerian Military negatively against the USA. At this point, it is necessary to let Nigerians and the general public know that the USA and other international partners have been supporting the Armed Forces Of Nigeria in the fight against insurgency and terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin region.

4. The report is not being objectively analysed by the misinformers because of their ulterior motive. Thus, it behoves on the Defence Headquarters to clarify the particular sentence that was capitalized upon, which is “The Nigerian Military was unable to hold and rebuild civilian Structures and Institutions in those areas it had cleared”. The simple and objective interpretation is as follows:

a. The report was for 2016 and not January to July 2017. Hence, attributing the assertion to be current is rather wicked and should be disregarded.
b. To clear an area in this context is a military task while to hold is the task of para-military and other security agencies. In this regard, after the decimation of the Terrorist strongholds in the North East, other security agencies such as the Nigeria Police, National Security and Civil Defence Corps have been taking hold of areas cleared by the Military. That is why Adamawa and Yobe states have virtually little incidents of terrorist acts in the recent past.
c. Furthermore, rebuilding of civilian structures and institutions is not a military task. It is purely the responsibility of government of which a lot is being done. The efforts of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states are evident in this regard. Equally, are the visible positive deliberate efforts of Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI) under the “Buhari Plan” which is akin to the Marshall Plan of Europe after the Second World War. In addition, there are Non Governmental Organizations and good spirited individuals and private organizations contributing to rebuilding civilian structures and institutions in the North East.

5. The above notwithstanding, the Nigerian Army has all along been involved in the restoration and construction of roads and bridges demolished by the terrorists, to open up transportation routes in the North East. As laudable as this effort amongst other quick impact projects executed, by the Nigerian Army and Airforce, even in 2016, it was not captured in the report. Thus, it is educative for Nigerians and the general public to be aware of this corporate social responsibility by the Military in the North East.

6. It is worthy to let Nigerians know that, the report highly commended Nigerian Government of which the Nigerian Military is a part. Clearly without ambiguity, it stated “the Nigerian Government actively cooperated with the United States and other international partners to prevent further acts of terrorism in Nigeria against U.S citizens, citizens of third countries, and Nigerian citizens”. From this therefore, is it possible for the report to contradict itself? Obviously no. Thus the misinformers deliberately decided to hide this commendation from Nigerians and the general public, to cause disaffection for the Nigerian Military among the populace, which should not be accepted.

7. From the objective analysis and interpretation of the report, the Defence Headquarters hereby appeal to Nigerians and the general public to remain confident in the ability of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to tackle the Country’s security challenges. Be rest assured that, the Nigerian Military is committed to eliminating terrorism from the North East.

It clearly says RIP in one of the screenshots you are posting, so why did you still go ahead to post that picture?

Are you that desperate to post pictures that you loose all sense of reasoning?

Do you know what respecting the dead is at all?

Is it okay to post the pictures of a dead Nigerian soldier in an anonymous forum?

Is it because an individual wants likes, does he have the express permission of the soldiers family members to post that picture in this forum?

I absolutely agree with what you just wrote. As I have elucidated in an earlier post, the problem is that of leadership. Their mentality is still that of a political military man and strategies of the 50's era, just give orders and what ever the outcome, positive or negative we move on. No thinking out of the box, their thoughts are still of Soviet Union during the second world War and communist era PLA in the 50's-90's where they think of mass of people attacking ;just like a war of attrition. I will continue to repeat that the leadership of the Nigerian army past and present are a crop that went into the army for the purpose of finally getting a political appointment (governor, minister during the military era of govt)not for the purpose of love for the profession and patriotism. If they had applied for these purpose of love and patriotism, they wouldn't be enmeshed in the present day politics, they would be more concerned about updating their knowledge about asymmetric warfare and how to upgrade the Nigerian military and also how to win this war within the shortest possible time. That's why you notice that most of the past generals as much as they have kids in the military but they are not serving in the north east. I just wish they could do something good and worthwhile because a life is the same it doesn't matter if it's your kids or someone else's, it doesn't matter if it's a generals or a Lance corporals, it doesn't matter if it's from the north or south, all that matters is that wars need to be fought and survived with minimal casualties. I have cried when I saw school mates pic with RIP on their photos, cried when I heard friends are dead, got emotional even on pictures of people I don't know, all killed at the frontlines, things that could have been avoided possibly. Indeed the labour's of our heroes past shall never be in vain. RIP to the warriors once again
komekn:
When the Allies first went into Afghanistan they met an enemy who had been well dug in and had over 30 years of hardened battle experience against the Russians and others. That did not stop them they adapted.

The British were still using the snatch Landrovers. After a rethink the. MRAP was born.

The problem is two pronged corruption and poor morale in my opinion. Of which the after effect is inadequate infrastructure and poor equipment.

The public expectations on the military are very low in addition there is in-depth ignorance. That's why when we buy 20 second handed if not even third handed T-72s people think it's progress.

When we buy 120 Chinese MRAPs and 40 Reva MRAP's we go Wow !!!. Our peers are Algeria, Egypt and Morocco but our procurement is not up to 10% of our comparative peers, this is TOTAL MISPLACED priority.

In my estimation over 80% of our defence budget has been lost in misappropriation, corruption and outright stealing.

Nigeria has the capacity to buy 1000 assorted armored vehicles, APC's, MRAP's and IFV'S in one go. But we don't instead we were considering buying 12 ( Super Tucano) propeller attack aircraft for $600 million.

These ambushes will continue because of our modus operandi. You are dealing with guys who are ready to die as long as they can take a few of us with them.

Boko is not over equipped the have predominantly light arms and the obligatory RP7's, IED's and a few technicals.

By going around in soft skinned pick-up trucks, open and unarmoured trucks filled with highly and expensively trained combatants doesn't make any sense. In that environment you are like sitting ducks waiting to be plucked off.

And then our belief that thier is greater safety in numbers. Driving through literally a kill- zone in 100 vehicle convoys. You will be ambushed you just don't know exactly when or where. It doesn't take quantum physics to ring on your mobile and or satellite phones to your demented Boko colleagues and say 100 vehicle convoy is coming your way, ambush.

Collaborative informants is not the problem inadequate infrastructure, limited fit for purpose weaponry is the problem.

Media outlets all over the world put photos of soldiers that died in combat in the news to honor them.
What's your idea? That a hero died for his country but we shouldn't know his face or name? Is that how you appreciate their effort and sacrifice?
Now the picture i saw was not of his corpse, but while he was alive, so what's' wrong with that?
Do you have any idea how many pictures of US soldiers media outlets like CNN showed daily during the thick of the Iraq war? If that's okay, why is this wrong?
Instead of pretending these soldiers aren't dead, we need to know they are, that shouldn't be a secret, it allows the general population to appreciate them more and honor them, not less.

I don't deny that Sir.
However, before those announcements are made, the families of the dead soldiers are pre-informed and permission to post is given.
I only think it is fair to respect the privacy of the families of these dead soldiers. It is the human thing to do.
Bidexiii, sharing that picture is simply not proper.

As long as it is not a graphic pics of a dead Nigerian soldier, it is okay. The pic he posted is just for every Nigerian to retrospect and think about the sacrifices our heroes make daily just for u and I to sleep in peace.
Bidexii.i has been posting wonderful pics and videos of our military for a very long and I can assure u it is not for accolades or the "likes" that only trickle in once in a while.
It was this wonderful thread that stirred my interest in military before I decided to join other military related threads on NL, and I would not sit and watch you create rancour in this thread just because you have a grudge with Bide.
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Sizzorkay: 4:58pm On Aug 04, 2017
I don't see a date that mentioned when this hero was killed, did you? So how do you know whether or not his family has already being made aware or not? We don't know that.
People simply want to see a hero for what he is or was and praise his gallantry and salute him for his sacrifice, we aren't looking at such pic for fun, personally I was pained when i saw it, i do get your point, but it doesn't have to degenerate into a fist fight. We are all on the same side here, i hope

And in these case there is none , so there is nothing wrong with it. We are only remembering them for there patriotism and act of bravery.

Guys let's move to a better discussion.

I posted a link these morning and I later removed because I was not sure about the authenticity. So I was left with the option of removing the link, moments after the link was not there again on the website, it has already being removed.

But later these afternoon a friend who is in the air force called me to inform me about the super tucano's. That we will be getting them December to January next year .
