I mean literacy in it's literal form. At best, our ancestors were just about trying to develop a system to encode our language. They never actually succeeded. We were illiterate. The first true literate people in this country were from the North when Islam and associated Arabic was taught to Muslim scholars. Jews have been literate for almost 3000 years.
