Sometimes early last year, I bought a note 5 from computer village. it was from 1 of the bigger shops that sell UK used, not those small shops.. it was a t Mobile phone. I started using the phone and it had some funny issues, I couldn't update and it would sometimes lag.

I took it back to the shop I bought it from, it had 1 week warranty. the guy told me it wasn't unlocked properly and introduced me to a guy that collected 1k to unlock. in 15 mins he was done. I have never had issues with the phones and I have been updating the software pushed to the phone by t mobile.. I am presently on NOUGAT AND I have updated all security patches since I updated to Nougat with no issues.

So why all the fear about t mobile, has something changed from last year?
Or should I stop updating my phone?

i dont think it was a lock issue. Maybe a firmware issue.

T mobile na die to unlock. Especially iPhone.
