I learnt how to buy gas (fuel) today, pay by card and service yourself. So to ask questions naim be main thing, you ask and you learn.

Booked an appointment to see my course advisor and got notified my transcript from naija has been received.

Visited my department today, I need to get to the graduate school tomorrow.

Engineering College building undergoing some construction work..

Accommodation pursuit is taking shape. Associated cost was $140 for application fee.

I met a Nigerian student yesterday, currently on graduate studies.

He came in this summer session, part tuition waived and accommodation scholarship. Who says summer session doesn't fund students?

It actually does happen. smiley

What do you mean by accommodation scholarship

Just back from school...

Visited the College Hall, Office of Graduate Studies - submitted my naija uni hardcopy transcript (used softcopy for admission processing) and also my Degree Certificate.
Restrictions on my account/profile will be lifted, I can then do course registration.

Next was to the Student Union Building to get my student Identity card, was told it would be available by Orientation day or around that period.

If the I.D was given, I would have proceeded to the Library for Library I.D.

First two days during house search, sun wire me no be small then I come get sense - I started calculating my movements.
I do only the necessary movements and avoid the sun as much as possible.

I also got a new friend who owns a car and has been very helpful with moving around, without him, life would have been very difficult.

The accommodation hustle still continues but it is almost over.

Nobody said it will be this difficult. Here you need a guarantor to sign for you for most apartments - must be a U.S citizen - how I wan take fulfil such requirement?? That shi has been holding my application for the last 3 days.

Expenses so far -
Application fee = $40 each
Deposit/caution fee = $100 each
Rent = $500
Insurance for the apartment = $10
Electricity activation = $150 deposit

Will update if I remember any other cost....

Most of these payments were done thru money order - you need transportation to make this move.

A sim card is around $30, unlimited domestic calls and texts.

I hope I get the keys to the apartment today...

Thanks bro/sis,

I meant to say hustle *almost* over... smiley

I got a $1,000 scholarship lthat can cover costs of books for 2 semesters AND an eligibility for instate tuition payment (this removes $7,800 from my total fees).

I wrote Toefl even b4 I received a mail from Grad school that Toefl was required but my GRE verbal score was used in it's place.

I saw my course adviser today - he hinted that they 'run' assistantship positions in my dept - in his words 'it might not be up to 20hrs a week and you'll have to contact each faculty/prof to see if they have available positions'.
I'll try each faculty when they start showing up in school.

No payments done yet. Grad school needed to see the transcript and degree certificate in order to clear some restrictions on the account.

After I do course advising, then I can get more restrictions lifted and go to Business Office to know the financial implications.

I have been in the U.S for roughly 10 days...

What is different?

* Steady light and water, yet to see any borehole or generator here. Everywhere is calm.

* Hotter weather, sweltering heat. A/C here no be big man.

* The bum short wearing here is on a dangerous level. Chics deh wear that thing Everywhere! If you no get self control, you must enter trouble.

* Guys here wear shorts to classes and almost everywhere, so many of them.

* No public transport here. Without a personal car, trekking naim sure pass - it is worse in the bigger cities without a public transport system. Motor no be big man.

* Here, na all man for himself. If anyone renders assistance to you, abeg thank am well well.
