Engr. Segun Emmanuel Olaye is a man who loves challenges. Determined, methodical and thorough, Olaye has managed to turn his micro agro-allied enterprise known as Ayoola Foods Limited, into a major food-processing company, whose products are highly sought-after, both at home and abroad. His company's turnover runs into hundreds of millions of naira, annually.

Other products of the company are;

Ayoola Plantain Flour

Ayoola Rice Flour

Ayoola Beans Flour

Ayoola Cassava Fufu

Ayoola Yam Flour

Ayoola Brown Beans

Ayoola Foods introduced Ayoola Beans Flour – a brilliant product that makes preparation of all these local delicacies fast and stress free. It can be used in the preparation of bean cakes (Akara), Moi-moi and other local delicacies that require a lot of tedious work like soaking of the beans, cleaning, peeling, grinding, etc.

Has anyone done something on Fayus Incorporated. The maker of popular Ola-ola foods?

Ayodeji Mebope

CEO No Left Over plc

From a bean cake vendor to a multi-million naira business owner: the story of Ayodeji Megbope.

The food and catering business in Nigeria is not an easy one as a lot of time and energy is invested into the business. It is no secret that most caterers and food vendors spend sleeplessness night after sleepless night so as to meet their target and satisfy their customers.

So the story of the owner of No Left Over Nigeria plc should ordinarily not be astonishing or surprising. However, the fact that she was able to turn a ₦1000 business into a ₦50 million company, selling what most people would term ordinary is the focus today.

No Left Over plc is a Nigerian catering outfit run by the CEO, Ayodeji Megbope. Ayodeji Megbope who received training in secretarial studies worked for a primary school as a confidential secretary for a period of nine years.

All through the period Megbope worked for the school, she always nursed am ambition of owning her own crèche and playgroup school. Megbope’s aim was to create a safe and secure environment where working parents can keep their children while at work.

After nine years of service to the administration of the school where she worked, Megbope left the school in pursue of her ambition. In a bid to actualize her ambition, she enrolled into a Montessori teaching programme. The programme was meant to last for about six months.

Towards the end of the programme, after religiously attending it, Megbope lost interest. Despite all the money she has spent, Megbope didn’t want to engage in something that we wouldn’t give her all. So with no job and no prospects of starting up the daycare center she had intended, Megbope was thinking about the next step to take in her life.

One other thing Megbope had going for her was her culinary skills. Megbope’s food has always received commendation from her family and other relatives. So she decided to take up cooking so as to keep herself busy.

Megbope had a sister-in-law who was a career woman and was always extremely busy. So Megbope took up the job of cooking for this sister-in-law of hers.

One of megbope’s special delicacies was her bean cake popularly called moi moi in Nigeria. So tasty was her bean cake that her sister-in-law requested that Megbope include it in the food menu she prepares for her.

She charged her sister-in-law the sum of ₦1000 for that.

From there, Megbopes bean cake grew famous that other relatives and friends began placing orders. Using the 1000 she charged her sister inlaw as capital, megbope began producing bean cakes and selling to those who requested them.

At the end of three months, Megbopes capital grew from ₦1000 to about ₦40000. It was at that point that the realization dawned on her that this could be a very fruitful venture.

Megbope decided to take the business farther than just her immediate environment. She started producing bean cakes and going to sell them at the school where she worked previously.

When parents came to drop their children at school, she would beckon on them to purchase the bean cake. From there, her fame spread even further, bring more customers who placed demands on her bean cake.

The big break came for Megbope when she applied for a training organized by an organization known as Goldman sachs in conjuction with the Pan-African university. The training exposed megbope to various entrepreneurship tools such as record keeping, duty delegation as well as customer relations.

After the training, Megbope was ready to take charge of her business. It was at this point that No Left Over plc was born.

Megbope make some changes to her business. She opened a record keeping book, a bank account, trained and employed more hands, and moved her business from her house to an office. All this changes helped Megbope place her business in a proper prospective

She was able to take on more jobs and even expanded her business from one item –bean cake- to a fully catering outfit.

Megbope has received recommendations from within and outside her country. She has been invited on international platforms to give motivational talks and addresses on business and career.

One of those was the annual general meeting of Goldman Sachs in New York, where she gave an address. She has also been invited by former American President, Bill Clinton to his annual Clinton Global Initiative.

Her advice at these lectures for young entrepreneurs was for them to never be afraid to start small. She admits that although the journey might not be smooth, but with a proper business plan, record keeping and perseverance, they would succeed.

My people and friends of my people,

I come with a proposal.
It can't be a one man mission.
We have to, need to, and must access and reawaken our people.

Due to ignorance, we have multiple Yorubas 1) clamoring for one Nigeria 2) thinking like FFK, Kemi Ololoyo and Fayose (who sent Ekiti people to go learn nonsense in Aba, when he could have sent them to Ogun or Lagos).

It seems like a great number of Yorubas are ignorant of the intellectual and businesses they own. They've been fed so much lies about some traders owning this percentage and that percentage, and the unfortunate thing about it is that, many have come to believe the lies.

Can we take the knowledge we've amassed on this thread beyond NL?

I am proposing creating a

1) FB &
2) Twitter

accounts to celebrate our people. However, this has to be carried out as an executable and SUSTAINABLE project.

The group would be used to share knowledge about Yorubas' economic, interest and many other things. We'll also accept guest posts. So it's a content based groups where people write pieces and submit to admin. People can also ask questions to foster conversations. The groups would also be used to reawaken Yoruba consciousness cos most of those silly Yoruba Facebook groups aren't doing anything meaningful other than posting pictures of babies wearing agbada and telling people to like posts

If you're in, please reply my quoting me and letting me know your stance. I give each man a week to stake his ground. Can we guarantee 200 members for a start?

Whatever you choose will not change my wonderful opinion of all of you. Much love kiss

Deebee Limited started as a wine manufacturer, but it’s product range now includes non-alcoholic fruit juices, bottled water, and will soon include a line of functional/energy drinks. Dr. D.B.A. Ogutuga, Ph.D (CANTAB), the Founder and Executive Chairman of Deebee Company Limited, established the firm in June 1977, with the purpose of commercially implementing his research results, on the process of manufacturing wine from kola nuts.

Today, from the complex factory machinery used for purification, PET blowing, filling, labeling, capping and shrink wrapping (and that’s their bottled water product alone), to the logistics software used to communicate raw material and finished goods orders between offices, Deebee Company Limited utilises high end technology to enhance its' operations, and add significant value along its entire value chain.

Its' subsidiary Asiko Power was established as a specialist power company, offering one-stop captive power plants to various clients (large and small). Gas Terminalling is one of the major off takers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, moving over 2,000 MT of the product from Bonny to Lagos, every month for onward distribution to its numerous clients.

Asiko assembles and sells a wide range of LPG-fueled gas generating sets, LPG-powered cooling systems or air-conditioners, LPG-driven Cooling / Refrigeration Systems, as well as other gas-powered appliances. The firm also holds the franchise for the distribution of Robur appliances, in west Africa. The company is owned by Engr. Asiko is able to deploy small, medium and large power systems in areas where there are no gas pipelines, or reliable power lines. In this way, the firm is able to bypass the inefficiencies and problems of the national power system, and deliver uninterrupted, cheap and efficient power to its' clients.

Teju Industries Limited, a firm specialized in foam manufacturing was established in 1973, by the late Chief Mrs. Bisoye Tejuosho, Iyalode of Egbaland with a loan from the defunct Nigerian Industrial Development Bank. She was a versatile, hardworking merchant who had a thriving commodity trading business, before venturing into manufacturing by partnering with a Norwegian businessman to set up a polyurethane factory to produce foams.

Unfortunately, the partnership was short lived, and Tejuosho parted ways with the man and decided to set up her own firm - a feat which saw her becoming the first female industrialist, in the country. Their flagship product was Teju Foam range of flexible foam mattresses, underlays, pillows and other foam products.

Her son Adedapo, who was a fully qualified medical doctor, also joined her in the business, and set up a clinic within the premises of the company. That medical care centre was known as Teju Industrial Clinic. He later ascended the throne of his forefathers, and was crowned Oba (Dr.) Adedapo Adewale Tejuoso, Karunwi III, Osile Oke-Ona of Egbaland. Teju Industrial Clinic at Ilupeju in Lagos, was later renamed Iyalode Bisoye Tejuoso Hospital, in memory of his late mother. At the hospital, his son Prince Lanre Tejuosho is currently developing the use of telemedicine for complex surgical and diagnostic procedures.

Teju Foam products were popular, and well accepted in the market for many years, until a huge fire outbreak razed down a major arm of the factory in the 80s. They had to scale down the size of their operations substantially after that incident, and put a hold on further expansion projects.

The company now has other subsidiaries engaged in petroleum products retail marketing, poultry farms, estate development, and furniture manufacturing in Lagos and Abeokuta. They all form part of the holding company now known as Teju Group of Companies.

The popular Tejuosho market in Yaba area of Lagos, is named after the late matriarch of the Tejuosho family, Chief Mrs. Esther Bisoye Tejuosho.

Please someone need to compile this list. At least, we should have a copy to educate most of us that still think Igbos have most of the industries in South West.

The Igbos import low quality goods and rebrand them as Aba made (apart from shoes which we also make in SW). If their claims were true where do raw materials come from. There is no way industries will exist in state and they don't buy raw materials as input. I won't be surprised if Ibadan is also more industrialized than any igbo state.

Onitsha is more of a market not industrialized city. Nnewi is full of Chinese helping to repackage toothbrushes, iron wires instead of copper wires, etc.

It is funny for people to claim they developed another man's land when their land have nothing close.

It is only someone that hasn't been to Igboland that will believe all the rubbish lies they are telling. I stand by my assertion that southeast is the 2nd most impoverished geopolitical zone after the war ravaged Northeast. This assertion is based on firsthand account. There are no cultivable lands, no foods, no jobs, no money, very little hope which explain the reason while they keep trooping to other regions despite animosity they are receiving of late. The successful ones among them don't go back home because they get killed, the few ones that go back are very oppresive and mean to these poor people

Bolaji Balogun
CEO of Chapel Hill Denham

“One of the greatest misconceptions that people have about Africa, still, is that it is too risky. What they need to realize is that risk is easily translated into opportunity,” says Bolaji Balogun, CEO of Chapel Hill Denham. Balogun set up Chapel Hill, a financial services advisory firm based in Lagos, in 2005 but with keen ambitions to develop his business into a full-service investment bank, Chapel Hill merged with Denham Management in 2008, with Balogun at the helm. He has firmly established the business as one of Nigeria’s most trusted and well-connected advisers. “The integration process when we first merged with Denham was interesting to begin with,” he explains. “We had tripled our number of employees and our client base had become a lot more diversified: Whereas we were used to serving institutional clients, we now had to increasingly serve retail clients as well.” After quickly overcoming these initial difficulties, Chapel Hill Denham has become the backbone of Nigerian investment banking, with leading positions in M&A, debt and equity capital markets. Any risks that were initially felt soon dissipated. Throughout his career, Balogun has proved to be a self-starter and keen business-person, stepping away from the family business and carving out his own career. One highlight for Balogun and Chapel Hill Denham was the advisory work the investment bank did during the banking crisis that hit Nigeria in 2008. Alongside Deutsche, Balogun and his team were brought in to advise Nigeria’s central bank on the rescue and recapitalization of the failing banks. Chapel Hill Denham led the work stream leading to the formation and funding of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (Amcon). “In effect we saved depositors from losing N4.5 trillion [$27.7 billion] in savings – a fate that people elsewhere were not able to avoid,” he says. “We worked well with the central bank and others to ensure that the taxpayer didn’t bear the burden of the downfall. This was a massive achievement for us, pivotal to cementing faith into the banking sector in Nigeria and supporting it.” And as part of the banking recapitalization process, in 2011 Amcon issued zero-coupon bonds for three years with a face value of N5.6 trillion – the first time zero-coupon bonds were issued in Nigeria. “Before the bonds were due to mature in December 2013, there were concerns that Amcon could default, but we successfully lead managed a landmark N3.8 trillion refinancing deal for it,” says Balogun.
