PRESS RELEASE : NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DESTROYS BOKO HARAM HIDEOUT

youtube Video link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNAlwF-TYx4

In furtherance of operations to completely defeat the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) Organization, on 7 August 2017, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE conducted an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission over Parisu, in the Sambisa general area. During the ISR mission, a large group of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) was seen converging under a tree close to a prominent zinc-roofed structure. Part of the structure was concealed by the foliage of a tree, making it a seemingly unobtrusive gathering point for the terrorists. A confirmatory ISR mission indicated that the structure was indeed a BHT hideout, housing a large number of terrorists. Accordingly, on 8 August 2017, the Air Component detailed fighter aircraft to strike the target in succession. Following the first and second strikes, the building was completely destroyed and the location was strafed during the third attack. The fourth attack was re-directed to a close by building, where BHT activity was also noticed. Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment revealed that the BHT hideout was completely reduced to rubble and several BHTs were killed while a few of them were seen evacuating the casualties.

MESSAGE TO REMNANTS OF BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS: THE GAME IS UP

This is to call on the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists wherever you are hiding, to give up forthwith. This is because your ideology of Boko Haram is dead and no longer tenable. There is no reason to be suffering or fighting a lost cause. As you are aware, your leaders have abandoned you and could no longer be of any help to you. Therefore you should all surrender to avoid dying like dogs because of the ongoing concerted military clearance operations.

NAF INDUCTS ADDITIONAL SUPER MUSHSHAK AIRCRAFT, GRADUATES MORE STUDENT PILOTS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday inducted 5 additional Super Mushshak trainer aircraft into its inventory for the primary training of its pilots at 401 Flying Training School (FTS), Kaduna. At the same time, 16 ab-initio student pilots, including 2 female cadets, graduated from the 401 FTS. It is significant to note that it was the first time in over 30 years that NAF cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna would be graduating from flying training before being commissioned as officers. The newly inducted aircraft, which were the NAF’s first batch of 10 Super Mushshak aircraft procured from Pakistan, were recently received by the NAF. The inducted aircraft are all brand new and are fitted with digital glass cockpit in line with current practice in the global aviation industry.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Special Guest of Honour, Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who was represented by the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mansur Mohammed Dan Ali, stated that one of the major security policy thrusts of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is the building of the capacity of the Armed Forces. “We have since embarked on qualitative training and acquisition of new platforms and other supporting equipment for the Armed Forces and security agencies. We have also sanitised the procurement process of military hardware with a view to eliminating corruption and inefficiency. This has contributed in no small way to the acquisition of these new aircraft without any encumbrances,” he stated. The Acting President congratulated the newly graduated pilots for the accomplishment in completing the primary flying training in a record time. “You should by now have known that the reward for hard work is more hard work”. He then commended the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, for his selfless efforts in repositioning the NAF for greater professionalism and excellent service delivery to the country.

Earlier in his welcome address, the CAS commended the efforts of the Federal Government in acquiring several operational and training platforms for the NAF as well as for the huge investment in infrastructural and human resource development in the last 2 years. According to the CAS, within that period, the NAF has been able to reactivate 12 hitherto grounded aircraft but which are now flying. “We have attained between 63 to 70 per cent aircraft serviceability rate as against about 35 per cent aircraft serviceability rate 2 years ago", he said. The CAS further stated that the capacity development efforts of the NAF had translated into better operational efficiency in the North East and other parts of the country. Air Marshal Abubakar also noted that the defence architecture of the NAF Bases had improved tremendously in the past 2 years with the training assistance the NAF receives from the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT). The graduation of ab-initio student pilots is part of efforts at repositioning the NAF into highly professional force. “Our plan is to consolidate on this achievement in order to attain self-reliance in local pilot training.”

The representative of the Special Guest of Honour and other invited guests were later treated to an aerial display, involving several acrobatics, by one of the new aircraft. The distinguished guests also visited the Air Force Research and Development Centre in Kaduna, where they inspected some ongoing research works such as the Gulma Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Unguided Rockets and the Powered Chute Aircraft.

The army spokesman can write articles/journals on these, then its the role of the media to propagate such legacy. But the army has to take a bold step of letting us know much about such issues.

NAF OFFERS FREE MEDICAL SERVICES TO IDPs IN BAKASSI

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has extended its medical outreach programme to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the Bakassi Peninsula. The 4-day medical outreach designed to address the healthcare needs of the displaced Nigerians is targeted at over 4,000 returnees located at the Ikot-Effiom and Ekpri-Obutong IDP camps in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross-River State. Moved by the plights of the IDPs, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar directed the NAF Medical Services to conduct a medical outreach in the two camps especially for women and children in order to attend to their healthcare needs.

The first phase of the outreach programme, which was conducted between 8-9 August 2017, at the Ikot-Effiom witnessed the provision of healthcare services to about 1,500 IDPs in the camp in addition to indigenes of the host community who trooped out in large numbers to benefit from the NAF humanitarian services. The people were offered a wide range of free medical tests and treatment for malaria and blood pressure in addition to fasting, random sugar level and eye tests. Other medical checks carried out on the IDPs included those for various diseases and infections while treatment and drugs were administered freely to the patients. Also, treated mosquito nets were distributed to women and children. Those with complicated medical cases were referred to the NAF medical facilities in Calabar for secondary healthcare management.

Meanwhile, the NAF 305 Special Mobility Group in Calabar is also involved in the Joint Internal Security Operations in Cross-River State, codenamed "Operation Skolombo" with a mandate to checkmate criminality including the protection of the IDPs.
It is also worthy of note that the NAF has been in the forefront of providing free medical cares for IDPs and host communities of NAF Units across the nation as part of its corporate social responsibilities, notably in the North East, South-West, South-East and now the South-South.
