Non Yorubas are also viewing this thread.

It's not advisable.

But how do we handle bloody rivalries that will engulf our region going by historical precedence?

Are you and your villagers the ones that will initiate the bloody rivaries that will engulf your region?

Do you expect someone like him to know that having a Yoruba country doesn't necessarily mean that we can't have diplomatic relationship with other countries? Many of the Yoruba businesses on this thread have companies located in other countries.

No country stands alone. Having a Yoruba country simply means that we have all rights to govern and develop ourselves at our own pace. i.e Yorubas can emphasis on tourism, cultural exploration, natural resource exploration etc.

Hate is a strong word, it's a feeling I don't like entertaining. But....If na say I hate pesin, na unity begging Yorubas who are so ignorant of Yoruba success and commonwealth. Everything falls back on Nigeria's dilapidated education system.

Nigga is even quoting kiriji war...... o ma se. Are y'all still living in stoneages?

I am happy to see that people are beginning to see what a few of us saw a long time ago .

Facts -
1 Nigeria is living on borrowed time .

2 With the way the country manufactures illiteracy and poverty, it is bound to happen

3 I do not want yorubaland to hang around when Climate change hits ( those herdsmen are coming from places where it has already hit . The way they herd their cattle with no respect for their he land accelerates the process)

4 overpopulation and extreme levels of birth rate means that the little land available will not be enough to sustain the inhabitants

5 The lack of separation of power culture in virtually all the other ethnic groups . Which means that dissent is not tolerated , protest can cost you your life and opposition is not tolerated.

It is not a fluke that people flock to Yorubaland in huge numbers . You are judged as an individual and your rights are mostly respected . More than 1 million of those displaced in north moved to yorubaland , to go with those ethnic nationalities who have basically relocated to yorubaland but nobody is demanding additional funding for this fact .

Positive reason for yoruba independence
You mentioned tourism . A place like Eko Atlantic, Ikoyi and the other parts of the island can be designated as tourism free trade zone . With an international airport and hundreds of hotels and shopping complex , a ready and steady source of forex can be created for a start .

Gosh, did you just ask this?? Is Nigeria after all these years politically stable? This is unity begging at its worst form. It's like saying Yorubas can't live without Igbo's or Hausas. It's this sort of embarassing unity begging that makes us butt of jokes. There are many Yoruba enterpreneurs that are doing great in Ghana as well as other neighboring countries without qualms, so who says we can't be good neighbours with the others while doing business with one another?

The entire population of Kenya (East Africa's largest economy) is barely 40-million and yet it's doing great, even though their economy is only barely the size of Lagos (that doesn't even include the rest of the SW).

Even the Northerners have said they are not afraid to stand alone so why this unity begging for goodness sakes??

Unity begging?

Come on, stop sounding like the flatiyeasterners.

Nigeria belongs to us.

Nobody is holding us down.

We once had Western Region. You know how it ended.

Awolowo and Akintola tore the West apart.

There are so many factors to consider.

Do you think an independent Yorubaland will be politically stable enough to attain it's full potential?

Yorubaland is stable enough to attain its full potential. Most of the religious and political strives plaguing much of Nigeria are not common in Yorubaland. An independent Yoruba state has a full potential to succeed. It's perhaps one of the least exploited areas in Nigeria. Yorubas have the longest coastline of any ethnic groups in Nigeria. Do you know how many mineral deposits like gold and iron ore found in Yorubaland? Do you know the billions of barrels of untapped hard oil found in the bitumen deposit of Ondo state. Do you know how much arable farming land is in Oyo, Kwara, and Ogun states? Do you know that most of the limestone deposit and cement production in Nigeria can be found in Yorubaland. Do you know that the largest cement plant in the whole of Africa, the Obajana cement plant is in Yorubaland?

You can consider the immense potential that can come from agriculture and cash crops alone like rubber, cocoa, oil palm, banana, orange, coffee, sugarcane, and cotton. The cocoa produced during the autonomous Western region was the reason why Nigeria was the largest cocoa producer in the world exporting cocoa to the various Western countries. Today, due to the neglect of the Nigerian government, the country has fallen to fourth place behind Indonesia. The same thing happen with the production of oil palm, which Nigeria was the largest producer, but has now been surpassed by Indonesia and Malaysia.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, the same Indonesia and Malaysia used to come to Western Nigeria to take back saplings to their home countries. The oil palm isn't even native to Indonesia and Malaysia, but the west coast of Africa and yet these people are the largest producers after decades of investment in their agriculture and neglects of Nigeria's. The cocoa house, the only sky scrapper in Nigeria at the time and the tallest in Africa at the time was erected by the cocoa proceeds from the region under Odu'a Investment Company Ltd. Back then, it was referred to as "ile awon agbe."

When you look at a vintage picture of western Nigeria in the 70's and compare it to now, one always seems to wonder what happened along the way. For one, unemployment and poverty was lower then compared to now. The quality of education, security, health, and life was better. Isn't it that as a society ages, its people progresses. Why is it the reverse in Nigeria?

Thanks for bringing the bolded up.

Everyone in Nigeria runs to the SW for sanctuary.

Oyo state has high number of Hausa-Fulani beggars running from the North, and many more running from Islamic extremists. Flat heads are all over the SW from Lagos to Ibadan in order to survive. Everyone coming to the SW, yet when we ask for more allocations to build infrastructures that will sustain these high migration, they call us parasites. Yet the parasites are the ones running from their home to survive on our land.

A Yoruba country will be able to mitigate high immigration through visa process and deportation.

Yorubas didn't end the Western Region, the murderous and ill-advised coupists did that. Who's to say that the Yoruba folks would not have found an internal solution to their own problems back then if the coup hadn't taken place? They had already expressed their rejection of Akintola in very clear terms. Go back and read the history of that era. Right before the January '66 coup, Akintola was already isolated by the majority of the Westerners, and was as a matter of fact open to a political solution that was to involve the release of Awo from prison in order to douse the political upheaval that his tenure had generated. Akintola was already prepared to make concessions to the Awo camp before the coupists cut short his life and that of other victims of that putsch. You are obviously ignorant else you won't even bring up such a lame and jaundiced p.o.v.

What do you call someone that begs for unity, can't envision the success of his own country?

What do y'all call yourselves in your beer parlor gatherings?

When was that? Pre or post Nigeria?

If I recall correctly, Awolowo had his people's best interest at heart. He fought for his people. The unfortunate set back of the Yoruba nation are the unity beggars and the so called FFKs.

What's even more painful is the cultural aspect. In Africa, it's hard to find a country where the official/institutional language of education isn't foreign. Instead of promoting Yoruba's culture, Yoruba culture is being thrown away and you are considered more posh if you speak English and not your native language. Funny enough is most Nigerians aren't excellent in the English language. I want an autonomous state where Yoruba is the language of government and education institutions where local dialects will thrive and English will be a side language reserved only on the international stage.

OMGGGGG You're reading my mind.

Yorubas are the ones letting go of their culture to support one-Nigeria. Look at Lagos, they had to support high diverse migration into the megacity by reducing their Yoruba identity. Why do you think piglets now call Lagos a no-man's land?

Ogun is trailing the same path.

In a Yoruba country, we can accentuate our Yorubaness while making English an after-thought....a secondary language.

Yorubas are the ones losing their identity to support useless one Nigeria.

My sis, the truth is that Nigeria is only living on borrowed time, either way we want to look at it. It's like asking why the need for this particular thread afterall, if we can't live without one another? This thread is a reinforcement of our SEPARATE IDENTITY compared to the Igbos. History and the Nigerian experiment has shown that we can't live together in the same country with them -- not that we haven't tried anyway, but their domineering tendencies will never allow us be at peace with one another. We will definitely make better neighbours as separate countries coz then there'll be no need to chest-beat or heat up the polity over who rules over whom, and we'll respect each other's boundaries, something that WILL NEVER happen within 'One Nigeria', no matter the 'restructuring' -- as it stands, if all igbos decide to relocate to the SW, we Yorubas can't do shyt about it all in the name of 'One Nigeria'.

But as separate countries we'll both respect ourselves and our boundaries and will be free to deport any troublemaker in our midst without having to apologize for sending their destitutes littering our region back to Anambra or wherever they may come from.

The 'Big Three' tribes will always be at each other's throat trying to dominate one another. Nigeria has proved since independence that we all can't live as a nation. #Fact. This parasitic relationship that currently exists is not sustainable, and will only continue to breed hatred and animousity.

Yorubas are an homogeneous group of people with contiguous borders and a common origin (ile-ife). No such commonality exists amongst the 'Nigerians', which is why Nigeria has been finding it extremely difficult to truly unite as there are no real ties that bind us. All Yorubas share culture, food, dressing, language, etc in common. Again, I emphasize that such commonality and homogeneity doesn't exist amongst Nigerians in general and that's why there can't be any real unity.

This unity begging from some of our folks is just too embarrassing please. Let's even pretend, for the sake of pride, that we too can stand on our own if need be abeg. Or must the rest of Nigeria kick us out before we grow some pride as a people??
Excellent write up. We are not one. If we truly are, then we would not need to shout "One Nigeria". I have not heard of "One Yoruba" before. We need to split.
Enough with the lies!

Can you successfully defend Yorubaland borders against rampaging Boko Haram/Islamist invaders especially when a significant portion of the erstwhile Nigerian army is now on their side?

Just like one Nigeria is successfully doing?

Right?

The same Northerners you want to invite to dinner to chop cake are the same ones trying to stop the Lagos-Ibadan rail budget.

And the reality is that scarface fallen demons use our processing plant to display ad their achievement (fact). There is absolutely no way you can equal the Igbos in anything of which you are aware, you can masturbate and rant as much as it pleases you, it's allowed on your nairaland institution of yoruba achievement grin grin grin grin grin
