So who in his right mind, knowing the magnitude of work, the cost in colossal terms, would risk not just his political future but the execution of a project which should transform the country into a truly networked landscape in the hands of untested engineers?

I believe Mr Amaechi will make clarifications on this. Though i don't support the hordes of unqualified Chinese men taking over our jobs. South Koreans, Germans, Japanese Engineers will be more apt with a long term goal of technology transfer.

Ameachi studied English and Literary studies from uniport and he doesn't have any working career history for any engineering and oil and gas company, been a Governor who doesn't supervise Govt project directly doesn't give him the right to talk about Nigerian engineers like that, I do have over 12 yrs working experience with the oil and gas industry and have seen a lot of brilliant Nigerian engineers that do even teach the expertriate when they come on board.

Ameachi should be mindful of his actions and words that you don't play politics with everything, I do wonder hey the press release. For the petroleum minister, he has worked all his life in Mobil and even got to the Position of a DMD, you cannot compare him to Amaechi who was just a PRO for Odilis hospital (PAMO Clinic)

We do not have real engineers in Nigeria. Many of our professors here cannot carry out routine repairs on generators and and their personal cars without calling on roadside mechanics.

Was it not yesterday on NL that some Chinese experts came to discover uranium and other resources in Cross River State when we have numerous Profs in geology here?

Our Engineering grads are only good on paper and drawing, nothing more.

And who told you that professors are surposed to be able to repair cars and generators?
Where does that happen in this worlds?

Hon. Amaechi has lots of experience when it concerns development due to the massive infrastructure, science and tech jobs in Rivers State.

This is just a wake up call for investment into our science and technology educational system. No need for harsh words and abuse.

Most here talking will not give out high tech work to Nigerian Engineers too.

Keep in mind Hon. Amaechi used lots of indigenous contractors during his time as Governor of Rivers State.

Because we have lazy leaders that believe in ready made other than self-development. But the truth be told he is not wrong. Go to any engineering department in our universities and ask the professors to give a building project to his/her students, I bet you they will never o that because they do not trust their students as well. Do our universities engage in practical developments and research? How many of our problems as our engineers postulated how to solve them. We have been having flash floods, have any of our universities conduct a research on how to manage it.

It's quite disheartening. What technology has been rolled out of our universities? Has any of our Nigerian engineering companies rolled out prototypes of inventions or what they can do? They are all after government contract(money) other than ingenuity.

It is quite unfortunate

people or generation are indexed by number of the majority. and rated by majority. you are only mentioning 2% from 100. which can't be accepted as facts Black's lack the collective will of coming together to work in one purpose. blacks are self hate and opposed each others view with any means including witchcrafts.

The Octogenarian mentioned how quota system and tribalism over competent engineering professionals were the first blow that dealt with the Railway corporation and even other sectors? How come no one is discussing this? undecided

The situation whereby sensitive technical roles are reserved for politicians and their dependents who are not competent enough to be employed in such roles? About time we threw away these silly concepts (quota system, religion, tribalsim and co) and start taking actions based on merit else we will keep blaming the wrong people fifteen years later when things refuse to work!

Amaechi is totally wrong here. Speaking as an engineer, what is in a railway system?
What is in building a track worthy train?
I do not see any giant task in that such that a minister will think Nigerian engineers cannot handle it.
Nigerian engineers and technologists are very capable of building our power stations, trains and railways, waste incinerators, buses and boats etc, all from scratch.

This is a big excuse to spend some forex just for nothing.

This is why engineers should be transport, energy, petroleum, aviation ministers etc.
Just like you cannot believe heart transplant is possible when your not a surgeon or medical expert.

Be sincere with yourself. Blacks residing in this part of the world under African governments have traded ingenuity for belly consumption. I bet you that you only see it as putting together of some irons. Blacks are in a rush with everything, they want to actualize "Z" without passing through "J".
We need to accept our shortcomings before we start making things right other than just believing that we are there. It is not by mouth as the word is cheap.

I was talking to an engineer sometimes ago and he said that there are many unnecessary components in a white's man construction that they are just to safety conscious and that beats my imagination as to what the heck are you innovating or constructing without adequate safety measures. Can you see why Amaechi may be vindicated? Please, I agree that we are blessed but it is not to believe but rather to get committed to real development.

Please is it enough for a child to believe that he/she is brilliant without attending classes and developing himself or herself?

Ameachi i am sorry was right. The Chinese technicians as you call them have years of experience building railway lines in China, Kenya and other African countries. The Nigerian engineer is only good at gathering titles and certificates. Mni, mnse, M.eng, b.eng etc

I can decipher what you do and who you are, if you dont practise how do get experience. Nigerian Engineers are one of the best in the world. Give them the opportunity you will be surprised at they can do.

Use expatriate 100% for the professional side of your project fine your work will be delivered but what is the long term contribution that project will be contributing to your human resources. Must you run to China everytime you need a project like that? Why not think of a way to be independent one day. Obviously this is like colonization. If we continue like this local engineers will never ever meet up.

Show me a prototype video of what Nigerians have claimed they can do. Do you think all these things are just to believe that they can do it? Let them market themselves. Sell technologies to us, safety measures etc. Do you think USA government just believe in their engineer without close to reality prototypes and strong research committment? Do you know how many years it took engineers to build Airbus plane?

I for one will not shy away from the truth. Our engineers need to do more to convince the government. Nobody wants to die anyhow or be responsible for a mass death. Do you own an Innosson vehicle? I'm sure you are considering safety measures until proving otherwise.

THe problem which boggles my mind is, how come all black societies globally have always allowed the worst in their midst to be in charge, while the best live in obscurity and penury?.... You are wrong. everyone has a known potential but your attitude determines what you can achieve. Blacks are intelligent even more than many other whites, brown or whatever colour they have attributed to themselves. I have been with several other colours who cannot match me one on one when it comes to innovative thinking ut as I have said it is more of a societal issue than mental capacity.
