Almaheed:i can see that you are pained for saying the fact. but i must tell you the truth that you cannot developed your country with this attitudes. you have to start by showing to the world a proof that you can do the job with evidence all can see. start by building electricity and roads. cleans up the mess and garbage you Guy's dump allover the streets and markets. build a world class transportation system not the trash you have there. stop your people from traveling on barefoot through deceit and Mediterranean sea. only then i can believe and have confident in you. until then will you shut up there. |

munas:Tell me that he can do it/he has done it. But would not love to do it because he is above that. But telling me he cannot do it because it's not his job, I don't see the logic there. When lazy Nigerian Engineers tell you their work is to design and not repair, they lack knowledge of what it takes to design. For someone that designs, building and repairing that equipment is very simple for you. You are not designing if you can't build, at least the prototype. What Nigerian Engineers call design is at best, calculation, drawing, and simulation. Try to build or supervisor the building of the so-called design, then you will be shocked that you never did any Engineering work there. |

What goes around comes around!!! the so called elite/ruling class knows that the technical schools and universities are under funded to produce highly skilled students and they also didn't fund public infrastructures over the years that should have employed technical students for the transfer of technology to take place that should have later produce highly skilled CEOs in train technology.... So the problem is not the poor Nigerian Students which are half bake nor the Nigeria Engineers were some of them cut corners because they lack the technicality nor the Banks that should have help in bridging the gaps by investing in real infrastructures rather than selling recharge cards. The real problem are the stupid, short sighted, greedy, low IQ Children calling themselves elders, murders, ritualistic paedophiles, shamelessly parading themselves as leaders rather they are laughing stock on the world stage were the real politics takes place, Am so sick to my stomach thinking about how they failed the country and the whole black race. This shameless elders in respect of parties are still the same people ruling this country Since 1960 and they have run this country to the ground were we are now a dumping ground of the world.. |

Sometimes I wish the Nigerian masses can actually stage an uprising and stone all these politicians to hell. If the education sector is bad, it's only because the leaders/elders/politicians of this country have failed. |

munas:You are yet coming back to what I said. The government is a reflection of the people. Have you seen a thief entrusting a thief with his/her assets? Remember that Railways did not die on its own, it died because we lack the mental capacity to be sincere and progressive. I must also say, that no funding can ever be enough, we just have to start with something, but have we even started with what we have. Have you seen our universities which are meant to be the base of our research and development going on strike for the sake of research funding other than their allowances and welfare? How many private Nigerian engineering firms(especially those that have benefitted from the government) have you seen partnering with our universities to innovate a ground-breaking technology.? You know our problem in this part of the world. We want the best always but not willing to give the best. We believe we are the best but we are not giving the best to prove it but we want to be gratified. |

fineboynl:One could place gold infront of the most educated Africans and they will not recognize or acknowledge it until a whiteman points it out. Education is still perceived as a title acquisition endeavour instead of a means of broadening one's knowledge. It took some Chinese to discover some mineral resources in Cross River while thousands of Nigerian professors and graduates are only good at framing their golden diplomas in their offices. / |

Amaechi is right, just that truth bitters, let me remind those threatening to deal with Amaechi the are wasting their time, only God giveth and taketh, they better go and look for something to do, Amaechi is blessed already and he has optimistic vision that led him where he is today, I am a Niger daltan, and I am dreaming to have somebody like Amaechi in our region, a million time |

Please, there is a difference when one does not have a capacity and been dull. Blacks are not dull but we are yet to develop our capacity. How can you say all those diseases came from Africa? Please stop spreading degrading lies and beliefs. |

Bluffly:U're highly ignorant find links below of origin of dese deadly diseases. HIV crossed from chimps to humans in the 1920's in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. Origin of HIV & AIDS | AVERT https://www.avert.org/...hiv-aids/origin The first reported case of the deadly virus came in 1976 and it is named after the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo which was where it was discovered. How Ebola Emerged Out of the Jungle - ABC News abcnews.go.com/Health/ebola.../story?id.. U see my broda d white man has lied to d whole world and degraded d black race not me. If ebola & hiv originated in africa why dint it wipe out our fore-fathers? U see wat am sayin bruv ![]() |

oluwaahmed:Then you are quite gullible. When a race wants to believe that deadly disease can only come from they. They reported it in the media and you believe everything. Even if you cannot make efforts to prove them wrong, yet you swallowed it. Do you know the rate of scientific researchers that went wrong? Are you are that a virus can be innovated? Well, it's okay if you say your own fore fathers. And you are antagonizing yourself. |

icedfire:All these statements of yours still boils down to the failures of our useless political elites who have failed woefully in discharging their duties and ensuring that our educational system is a priority. If not for their lack of regard for the institutions that people produce half baked graduates with only theoretical knowledge, our engineering graduates would've been better employable. So the fault still hangs on the neck of the incompetent and animalistic minister/ex governor. |

And we would have a nice discourse with each person giving his opinion . And we learn from each other. But no, you refuse to choose that part. You need to read other international forums like quora and reddit and learn how people respond to comment, No matter how different the opinion is. |

Bluffly:Engineers in the USA just do not build bridges, submarines, Airbus and spaceships from their salaries, these projects like railways, power stations require a lot of financial resources to muster the design fabrication, prototype testing, model construction, testing and actual project implementation. Only governments or large financial loans can foot such bills. And who says safety is a guarantee? can you remember the NASA space ship challenger, and the accident that occurred at launch. That wasn't their first or last. It was not out of poor design or incompetency and I am sure NASA and the USA government have taken measures to prevent such an occurrence in future. The fact is, there is nothing holding back the minister from saying that "Nigerian Engineers will now build our railway system". The minister, if he is technologically sound, should have the basic idea of what a railway system is all about. He will then proceed to look inwards for capable persons who can come up with the needed design ideas, who are capable of making recommendations to the resources available in our country that can be pulled together for such a project. He will further build up a basic plan for the project startup, which will involve fabrications and assembly of parts needed to build railway equipment. Our government need to invest in home made technology for big things. The North Korean nuclear technology is built by North Koreans, they cannot afford to have foreigners involved in such a project. The missing thing in our country is not the knowledge, it's the opportunity. We are used to importing technology, right from time and the risk is that we will always import technology especially at the rate technology is changing or evolving in every field. We need to start so we can catch up someday. Our railway system like Innoson vehicles you refer to may not be the best looking railway coaches or tracks at first build but all technology products start from somewhere to what you see and call modern today, cars from Mercedes, BMW etc are looking sleek and sweet every year because most times they just put a new body over the same frame while they develop a new frame. same thing with phones. Remember the Tecno mobile 15 years ago, I wouldn't buy a Tecno, It used to be a very weak, china product that would fail any day, with its 2 or 3 sim. We can make it if we try, building technology for ourselves. Nigerian engineers can build powers stations, warships, planes etc, if the government focuses on supporting indigenous technology. And that is the first step to over come failures because we will easily identify the problem within the design, the weak part of our product, that is causing the failure and make it stronger, hence a more reliable product at the end that we can sell to other nations. I have built and fabricated a few things myself since childhood. I studied mechanical engineering, but I love electronics. In 1987 I built my first FM transmitting station on campus and continued to develop my design till 1994 when the NYSC sponsored my project to build and install an FM station on the NYSC camp in Kwara state through Colonel Sofoluwe who was the DG of the scheme at that time. That wouldn't have been possible on my own. I was not presented with an award even at that. In 1998 I built a transistor UPS inverter which I powered a few appliances in my room using old car batteries and this were not inventions but things I made myself using components manufactured by other people and available in the market or some from scraps. I still build things to day with a lot of ideas but you only stop at designs and a few prototypes because big cash makes things real. Innoson will soon become one of the leading auto manufacturers in Africa in a few years as soon as they can break even and begin to produce cars at a price people are willing to try. If an Innoson brand new car goes for N1m or N600k I am sure people will begin to think again. What our government or ministers need to do is to move into Innoson and subsidize their manufacturing so they can roll out vehicles at unbelievable prices such that Nigerian can try them out, this will give Innoson the opportunity to discover the areas of improvement in their design and give them the needed resources to get better. Nigeria can make it, our leaders do not believe in the country, all they want is to make money from contract! contract!! contract!!! |

attack ameachi all you want, but the minister just told the truth. fashola said similar thing about these engineers last year right in their presence and they didn't goofed about it because it is the truth. most Nigerian engineers are only good on paper, writing thesis and the report like the reply they have there. few professional and practicing engineers in the country are not sincere with their work as they engage in dubious act by trying to cut corners and maximizing profit at the expense of sub standard product. they are majorly good at maintenance practice. that I can give them credit. but design, and implementation of project is a milestone for these quack engineers. |

TheGoodJoe:And you don't know the differences between maintain and repair? I don't blame you. It's the way you Nigerians think about engineering discipline. You are not alone in that ignorance. One of my life mentor who happens to be a lawyer will always want to argue why as a mechanical engineer, I should be able to repair automobiles. You don't have any idea of what engineering is. Nope, you do not really know who a mechanical engineer is. Do you even know what automobiles are apart from owning and driving one? I don't even know where to start with you. How many havard graduate engineers do you see repairing automobile even in the us? It's not because it's too low for them, it's because it's not their job and hence they no jack about it. An automobile engineer isn't even saddled with the responsibility of car repair. That's not what you are trained in school to do. Take BMW to a very good Toyota trained white mechanic and the chances that he will fumble is high. Because each car and each model are designed differently. |

GuidoVanRossum:Can you as an engineer maintain a machine for three years without repairs? Maintain is to keep it in working condition. |
| Re: Engineer Refutes Hon. Amaechi's Statement On Railway by GuidoVanRossum: 11:19pm On Aug 22, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe:Like I said, you don't understand what you are trying to argue. Train as a word means different thing to an engineer. The phrase "Christmas tree" to an oil and gas engineer differs in meaning to what you understand it to be. I can say the same about the word "maintenance". |
