BUNCH OF THIEVES

dammy13:
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has revealed how the cut off marks were fixed for higher institutions.

It said contrary to insinuations that it fixed the Tuesday’s tertiary institutions’ minimum admission cut-off marks, it was rather a collective decision of stakeholders in the education sector.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, spoke to reporters yesterday, insisting that stakeholders in the sector unanimously agreed that the minimum cut-off marks for the university degree for the 2017 academic year be put at 120, lower than the previous years, which stood at 180.

He allayed fears that the development might further lower Nigeria’s education standard.

He stated that besides the board recommending cut-off marks for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education as well as monotechnics, individual institutions could raise their admission benchmark higher but not above 180 and below 120 for universities.

He said, “With this decision, universities are not to go below the minimum 120 cut-off points adopted by the meeting for admissions.

“What JAMB did was a recommendation, we only determined the minimum, whatever the various institutions determine as their admission cut-off mark is their decisions.

“The Senate and academic boards of universities should be allowed to determine their cut-off marks.“

Bloody scammers! The only reason its that low is so that more people will be qualified to purchase the post-utme form and as such, more money goes into the coffers of the universities.

If the cut-off was high, the number of people eligible to write post-utme reduces so the money made by the institution reduces. At the end of the day, its only those that make 200+ in UME will gain admission.

Bloody scammers!
If you believe this money tale, then you still naive somewhat. The money is actually secondary in my books

The only tenable reason why they will lower the scores is more quota-political than anything else.

I call the jamb cut off mark the best publicly announced scam in Nigeria, it's better than MMM, "tell the stupid Nigerians that scored 120-170 so they can buy post utme form to raise money for universities, so ASUU can leave us alone" 120-170 ll not get admitted to university
You talking sense jare, but people who have legs with that poor score ... you know the rest jare. God should just help jare

Scamming of the century!! So institutions will now students who scored 120 in UME ahead of students who scored 270+ #kolewerk. 120-170 will just waste their money on P-ume... Dey won't get admitted.

Shame of a nation. And we wonder why we are sinking fast. What could be lower than this madness? Why not just scrap jamb altogether and give everyone a free pass?
Re: JAMB: How Cut-off Marks Were Fixed – Registrar by dvee2: 11:31am On Aug 24, 2017
My simple question to you all is why is this an issue since every university is allowed to freely chose their cut off mark? It doesn't matter if JAMB says the minimum allowed is 120 as long as it is not mandatory on any university. Just set your own cut off to 280 or 300, JAMB will not object, therefore all this noise is unnecessary.
Re: JAMB: How Cut-off Marks Were Fixed – Registrar by Nusooo: 11:31am On Aug 24, 2017
What is percentage of 120/400? I think is 30%. If a student scored 30 out of 100, I think is F9. International community will be laughing at us. Our stardard of education is crashing.

Even when the cut-off was high, there has always been a lower cut-off for the northern states in what is called 'Educationally less privileged states' so your argument of quota-political doesn't hold water. The Northerners has always had lower cut-offs. This particular news stems from the VC's of Universities wanting more students paying for Post-Utme forms.

When Will ASUU 2017 Strike End – (Find Out Here)

The Federal Government’s efforts towards getting the the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)to call off its nationwide strike failed on Thursday last week as both parties did not agree on some issues.

According to a source who was present at the meeting, the Federal Government promised to honour all of ASUU’s requests except the one regarding the TSA.

Am not seeing anything bad in this, Nigerian are toO serious on education which may lead to Oxidative stress and lead to other body diseases, you need to free your head (Brain),
Not just reading everytime, white men are far better than us, because they Club, Read, Play, Enjoy their Life, which reduce stress and make them Think. but here in Nigeria, is only BOOK and yet we are not better than them,
For me, reducing the cut-off mark is not a bad thing, they are trying to opening our eyes to many other thingz indirectly.

What type of nonsense is this, it must be due to a part of the country.
God will help this country. Restructuring is the answer.

That's my point. At least to pass mark(40%) i.e 160.

My opinion is that JAMB/Minister of Education is/are only trying to please ASUU. How can they say cut off is 120&100,if not to give huge room for school Management to make more money in selling their post-ume form and still give admission to those they want to. Where are we going in this country?

Yes, it may be because of those educational disadvantage places(northern part) you know, they dominate the stakeholder as majority.
