It's a good start. EVs seem to be less complex than normal vehicles.
I will be damn worried 100% of the time to even be in the vehicle. Why? The word cheap and China was used. Damn, even the cheapest EV is 35,000 US dollars. So, how did they wanna do it? They want it cheap and it's through China? I don't need to explain everything wrong with that, do I? Lemme come and be going

It's okay for electric cars to be introduced into the country. If you have to wait for 24 hours electricity to introduce a new product, you may as well not do any business at all. Every new product has its challenges. From the op's narrative, it's a private business with private risk. Nobody is going to be forced to buy their cars.

bgossipnaija:
Nigus Enfinity, an indigenous firm, says it will introduce electric vehicles into the Nigerian automobile market in 2018 and that its local assembly plant for electric vehicles will be ready in 2020.

Malik Ado-Ibrahim, chairman of the company, made this known to journalists in an interactive session which held in Abuja on Thursday.

Ado-Ibrahim said several countries across the world have set targets for the ban of petrol-fuelled vehicles with India targeting 2030, and the United Kingdom, 2040.

He said Nigeria and Africa need to look inward to be at the fore of the automotive revolution or risk becoming waste bin for banned vehicles from other countries.

Ado-Ibrahim, who was the first African to lead the Formula 1 Team global race car competition in 1999, said his firm is already building a 100 megawatts (mw) solar power plant in Katsina and another in Adamawa state.

According to him, the company has also partnered with Build Your Dreams, a Chinese firm, to import electric vehicles at affordable costs from 2018.

“We are also working with BYD to get a local brand and start an electric vehicle assembly plant for Nigeria from 2020. Gradually we will move to an EV with the African DNA starting in Nigeria,” he said.

Welcomed idea but we've not seen light 24 hrs yet, how will the cars be charged then? Cost of light will just shoot up.
It would surely be powered by solar. coz no suffient electricity to be used at home not to talk of powering a vehicle.
Re: Electric Cars To Be Introduced Into Nigerian Market By 2018 by Wegowide(m): 1:01pm On Aug 26, 2017
This is a welcomed development. I just hope that this indeginous firm would give us a quality produce. Nigerian firms nowadays just focus on how much they are gonna make more than how much satisfactory produce they give. And also, let their embedded solar system be solar system. Not one kind joke of solar system cuz no light to charge these cars

There's a difference between making a thing & actually selling it.
Forget all that Tesla hype, BYD is the largest electric vehicle maker in the world, backed by Warren Buffet, in partnership with Daimler AG, so no fears.

I feel like d person dat taught of dis.
Come to think of dis:
Hw many hours will it take to charge d car?
What if in case of emergency u found out ur vehicle is not charged?
What is ur d vehicle stops on d middle of d road at mid night due to low batter wat will u do?
Hw many charging batteries is it expected to have?
What is d life span of d charged battery?
Will d vehicle be charged at home or will it be taken to a charging station?
Many and more questions to ask.

Total nonsense. I own a elctric (hyrbrid cars MB E350e) and live in a european counrty that will phase out petrol cars in about 10 years and they are struggling to cope with the infrastructure, not to talk of a country where you dont have stable elctricity. You need it as that is where the main charging will be at home. What do you think, you will drive to charging stations, u, what about the rest ...........so go there and be waiting in line, then whats the point.

We love to do things backwards.
Thanks for the information

What about the charging points and location?. I heard there is only a specified place for the charging just like filling stations.Thos areas uses solar and private power sources.Because electric cars can't be charge at home.It will drain the power and destroy transformers. And there is a special terminal to connect it to a charging point which is not available for private use yet.
Electric cars can now be charged at home

Electric car?

I think we should get smart and know that the only reason while it's going to be introduced into nigeria is cuz it's for testing purpose, nigeria is a big market and to weaken the power of crude!

And as monkeys that we and our leaders are, they will flood it into nigeria through one greedy Igbo man very soon!

We can't even look towards achieving the important things like steady light or sth na electric car u want to bring? Forgetting the disadvantages as well!

If I wher incharge, I'd ban it in nigeria!

I never seen anything this annoying! We have people who could do better but not given opportunity due to rigorous and completed stsyems yet we vote people there only to see how stupid and useless they think! I spit on this!
Flood electric car in Nigeria market now so that those of u with oil eye and nose will ceased.

Everything in Nigeria must be different. I'm a big fan of top gear UK, I have seen a few owners of electric powered cars charging from their various houses.

I WONT BE SURPRISED IF SCARCITY OF ELECTRIC POWER NEEDED FOR THE CARS HIT NIGERIA.

I lack words to quantify how low this post is. Going by your analogy, you should have continued using bicycle which wouldn't cost you a dime to run instead of using a vehicle.

For your information, in less than five decades, oil will be gone, I takes a visionaryvisionary person to see it and key into that opportunity. Electric and hybrid vehicles will soon replace the current conventional vehicles. Take it or leave it.

For a country like Nigeria which has power issues, I think hybrid vehicles will lead the way to ease the transistion from internal combustion engine vehicles to purely electrical vehicles. And efficiency is paramount for these vehicles and they will obviously have lesser losses than the current set of vehicles we have now. Energy recycling such as regenerative braking will be part of it and reduction of weight to as to maximize energy usage.

You dey mind nigeria with copy copy mentality without actually putting existing systems in place for such a feat.
The only company that can achieve this dream is Tesla and that's if they will be allowed autonomous control of power and installation of charging stations themselves and not giving it to one useless nigerian contractor that will never complete the project and run away with their money.
