Monopoly or no Monopoly, the man is at least investing in Africa and not spending a huge part of his wealth in already developed economies. |

God bless Aliko Dangote. This multi billion dollars integrated projects will definitely have an organic impact on the Nigerian economy no doubt. The largest refinery in Africa, the biggest fertilizer plant in Africa, a private jetty and power plant, an industrial estate and park and perhaps the second largest gas gathering project in Nigeria. To Dangote, I doff my cap. He is futuristic, pragmatic, forward looking and can smell a good investment from a thousand kilometers away. For me, all Nigerians should support this great man, Aliko. To the regulators, let's regulate but also support. To Nigerian government, clear all bureaucracy, to other investors, lets seek vertical and horizontal business opportunities to be created, to communities and other strategic stakeholders let us partner and support our own. Long live Nigeria. |

With the coming on stream of this refinery, coupled with the peaking out of global gasoline consumption in 2018-2019 as a result of popularity of electric cars, the prices of petrol and other oil-based commodities will drop. However, it will be a pyrhhic victory for the Nigerian masses who have suffered years of needless hardship at the hands of morons who called the shots for years in the Energy sector. By that time the much needed liberalization of the downstream sector would be meaningless. |

DrayZee:On the contrary i reckon it is 'very' bad, even in strong economies government still find ways of discouraging 'Monopoly' because it will crumble other businesses and render many people jobless. For someone like Dangote it is even more dangerous to give him monopolistic power over our economy because he is an 'international' businessman and he might be funding his other businesses at the detriment of our local economy, for example his desire to buy 'Arsenal' football club will be funded by all of us 'directly' or 'indirectly' when our local football clubs are in a sorry state..... ![]() |

hobermener:Dangote refinery would not solve our problems, but it will improve it. We don't need to solve our problems at a go, all we need is continuous improvement. That's what Dangote refinery represents. Let's applaud the man's vision, support his effort and help make this project a reality. |

rodeo0070:So far, Dangote seem to be the only Nigerian elite businessman with the eyes and mind for big things. And he is extremely calculative. He chose a perfectly right time to enter the oil and gas business. When he is sure all elements, nature and human, are in tandem to help actualize his goal in this risky industry. If he had made the same attempt decades or years ago, some saboteurs in government could have killed the project right from start. This man is a smart businessman. Just imagine a businessman who is in a situation where he is not the only one working and praying for his new business venture to succeed but millions of others are also hoping and praying he succeed because of the potential positive impact on their livelihood. I pray to God to give shower me such blessing. This is a lesson on how to make a smart business move at the right time in the face of multiple opportunities. |

Dangote in a recent interview said contrary to popular belief, he isn't enjoying the political favours people think. He said no one can say he/she is doing him a favour in his business even the presidents of countries he has investments in. seXytOhbAd: |

Dangote in an interview said...The reason he would not go into the telecommunication sector, is that there are too many top players already in that market. |
| Re: The Promise Of Dangote’s $12bn Refinery by ajl: 5:15pm On Aug 27, 2017 |
Unclesamo:Government don't run businesses especially in a free market economy. Government-run businesses hardly succeed. You expect a government that can't run an ordinary airline to successfully run four refineries. Pay a visit to one of the govt agencies and see the kind of people you expect to run a business. It's a human nature challenge that social scientists will provide good reasons why such businesses fail. |

ajl:It's majorly a Nigerian problem though, in Germany for instance, public services seem to be better than most private services. |
| Re: The Promise Of Dangote’s $12bn Refinery by ajl: 5:25pm On Aug 27, 2017 |
iamchybs:I don't think these other businessmen have the same type of experience and preparations that Dangote has. Otedola, at this point, probably lacks that mentality and resources for a business of this scale and cost. An $18 Billion project is not something for a less than big player at the international level which Dangote already is, unlike the other businessmen you referred to. |

hobermener:At least it will solve some. A party was in power for 16 years and did little to make refineries work. They chopped all d subsidy money |
| Re: The Promise Of Dangote’s $12bn Refinery by ajl: 5:30pm On Aug 27, 2017 |
freshest4live:I get your point. But public services are not run as businesses. So, whatever you can't run as businesses that has other private competitors is not likely to survive. And when you factor in the local challenges (so called Nigeria factor), that business is dead on arrival. And it is not a Nigerian problem. Do your research well. It is a general belief in economics. Just as an example, in Canada and probably in many European countries where health care is run by government you will have to cope and wait in-line for months and even years for certain services unlike in the USA where health care is privately run. Not a perfect example, but it shows how things are with government run outfits. |

I think this govt is clueless. They want to leave everything for dangote to produce so he can become richer than the country. These guys don't have economic teachers as they should go ND hire one asap to teach them about how an monopolistic economy will affect us. I like the man for his business ideas and don't blame him but fed govt want to destroy this country. Despite they haven't been able to fulfill campaign promises and job employment they now want to use a private business to fulfill it. |

I see this man as the Andrew Carnegie of not only Nigeria buy also of Africa. Just like someone said, it takes only a willing man to move a nations economy forward and interestingly, it may not be the President. For me, I see the dawn of Nigeria's industrial revolution and I must be a major player in some sectors or others. What about you? |
