Ciscamustexcel I have to be honest with you your baby's rejection of bottle pass me. But I think a daycare is better than any adhoc arrangement, if the colleague wants to go out nko? What do you do? Or has to travel? You can still pop into the daycare to feed LO while still trying the bottle

MizMyColi God's hand is upon your LO, she'll be fine

I didn't follow your Convo. with Cisca, but I choose Daycare, as in trusted daycare abeg.

Lo is fine now.
I'm amazed and thankful.

I thank everyone of us for kind wishes and hearty prayers.

Please Mamas help a concerned dad.
Note we've bn to hospital severally the same antibiotics they keep prescribing.

Looks like an allergic reaction to me.
You may need to start screening what he eats and if he's actively breastfeeding what the mom eats

I think there is nothing wrong with your son. Kids that age can make so much progress in milestones within a month. A child can go from saying just one word at 20 months to saying 10 words at 23 months. My son is about 2-3 weeks older than yours and I know where he is speech wise now compared to where he was at 16 months.

Do not compare your child with other children. I have come to realise that if you ask a parent how old their child is, if the child is actually 2years and 11 months old, they will tell you the child is '2years old'. The fact is that there is a massive difference in the speech and communication skills between a child aged 24 months (2years) and another aged 34 months (2 years and 10months). so when next you see that 'two years old' child telling her mum what she had for breakfast, lunch and dinner, ask well, the child is just shy of 3years.

That said, I believe in trusting a mother's instincts and I do not think you did wrong by having him checked by a doctor - it only shows that you are a caring and proactive mum. Sometimes our instincts are right. Now, let's assume there is the slightest trace of autism - the doctors are not going to put him on any medication. All they can do is come up with different mental development exercises/techniques that you can use to help him improve his speech and communication skills, so you can as well imbibe some of some techniques and start now. All it takes is a lot of love, patience and commitment and you will see drastic improvement.

First of all, you need to work on his diet. There are many articles online on foods that aid brain development in children. This is the time to replace ogi (if you are an ogi voltron tongue) with oats/oatmeal. This is the time to introduce varied vegetables and fruits in his diet. Prepare efo riro heavily garnished with assorted fish, small prawns, etc and give your child. Give him bread with peanut butter (you can actually make peanut butter yourself at home). Google - there are many articles from reputable websites discussing food that aid brain development in toddlers. Multivitamin syrup should not be used to replace feeding a toddler a rich/varied diet.

Secondly, since he goes to a crèche/nursery/day-care/preschool, you need to find out from his teachers what activities they engage him in. At the end of the day when you pick him up, always ask what they've been up to during the day - this chat doesn't take up to 5 minutes. No matter how pressed I am for time, i always get a recap of my son's activities for the day. what he was fed with, how many wet/soiled diapers, how much sleep he has had during the day and what activities they engaged him in. You are paying for the services they render, so you have every right to demand daily answers to these questions. Regularly discuss areas of improvement you will want seen in your child -if its speech or his interaction with other kids, you let them know, so they can also focus on these areas. When you do see improvements, commend his teachers and let them know.

This is not the stage to teach him how to write 1,2,and 3. This is the time for activities that will enhance his mental development. This is the period for them to engage in activities such as painting, drawing, recognising and naming animals, sorting items into boxes, messy play, singing, dancing, etc. if you are not happy with the activities he is engaged with at his crèche, then speak to them about it or move him to another crèche where things are done properly. Again Google and you will see examples of activities that you can engage your child with.

You need to seriously reduce his TV time. Personally, I am not a fan of cartoons at this age. I feel nursery rhymes are more beneficial to kids because they are a lot easier for kids this age to remember, hence it develops/improves their memory. It also helps their speech. My son learned how to name body parts from the popular nursery rhymes 'head, shoulder, knees and toes''. You should also learn to sing along with him to nursery rhymes and amuse him. I sing, make funny faces and do a choreography for my son and he absolutely loves it. Sometimes he attempts to copy the choreography and he also attempts to sing along or finish the song with me. We do this so often that sometimes I get bored and want to stop but he insists I continue. Popular classics like 'row, row, row your boat''. ‘‘Old MacDonald has a farm'', if you are happy and you know'', etc are great with kids. You can get so many easy to follow rhymes from YouTube.

All will be well.
@helovesme, I just saw your responses last night. I can't thank you enough for your useful tips. I do some of the listed above but not so much. I will definitely work more on them. He doesn't like cartoons, he loves nursery rhymes but thing is he imitates their actions than words, clap yours he is clapping, hop little bunnies, he hops as well.
This past week I had my cousins come spend some of their break with us and I was amazed at how much effort he was putting in communicating they are young kids as well.
I do ask question when I pick him up everyday. I asked one of the teachers who is an older mom what she thinks since she has a wealth of experience with kids, he socializes well and copy more actions than words but he is better than when he resumed. They have a communication book which his teachers fill everyday to tell the parents the kids conduct , from feeding to sleeping, child's attitude during circle time and all. I honestly never knew I was to communicate with him like an adult early. He eats well and healthy. They do serve lunch in his school but he doesn't like it so I pack his. He loves oats actually.
It's painful seen ones child struggle with things that comes effortlessly to other children but am positive he will get there. God bless you and yours ma'am.

Thank you sabi moms God bless.

[quote author=KingAfo post=59824514] does he like playing alone...flapping of hands? Do a small test for him, do as if you are injured or crying and watch his reaction.I have an autistic son as well
@kingafo no he doesn't, he doesn't like to play alone, but he is very interested in cars. When anyone hurts themselves around him, he puts his hand on their head , I guess that is his way of saying sorry. But when he is engrossed with something he doesn't seem to notice. Sorry for the late response been busy of late. Thanks

Communicating as in speaking clearly to a child not baby talks works very well.
It aids children to speak fast. Worked for my son and daughter .
If the mispronounce some words you correct immediately.

If you're in Lagos, I can recommend 2 Paediatric dermatologists. It's not a free option (you'll go to meet them at clinic) but since you keep getting prescribed Antiobitics and it's certainly not that, best idea is these guys. And they're consultants.
