smiley Cut the dude some slack please!

I'd like to congratulate everyone who has gotten documentation invitation, and to those of your who have conducted your AC and not gotten your documentation invite and are already getting a little bit worried, please don't be.

Like I said weeks ago, this whole thing would be in batches, and passing the aptitude test was the biggest feat you achieved on your way to working with First Bank, as long as you did your AC to a 50% pass level (which I know at least 75% of us did) you are assured that you would make it into First Academy, the only thing is that the waiting periods would defer between a lot of us, yours truly has not gotten his own documentation invitation yet as well and I'm happy I wasn't selected for documentation this week because I couldn't have made it due to my present engagements.

I'm so happy documentation invites have started coming out as planned, this means we are on track again and unnecessary delays have been eliminated.

Big congrats again to all my prospective FBN staff who got documentation invites, all the best guys!

Brother, forget about first bank salary and jump at the deloitte offer. Believe me, you won't regret it. I personally would leave a 300k salary to go work for deloitte.

First of all, I presume your comparison is between entry level positions like: audit analyst/tax associate positions at Deloitte as compared to First Bank entry level right?

First bank is sure one of the best places to have a career in Nigeria but Deloitte stands out above First bank in everything I must say! Deloitte is more internationally recognised and working for a company like Deloitte gives you the privilege of networking with colleagues in other countries like the USA, Europe because you are directly infused as being part of the global workforce.

Haven't you ever heard about the "Big four" accounting firms in the world? Namely they are: Deloitte, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst &
Young. Deloitte tops them all and has the biggest revenue and largest workforce in the world. So there is NO COMPARISION in international recognition
with First bank. Having "Deloitte" on your CV alone is a sure head-turner in the professional world, go to Switzerland or Holland; Hong Kong or Canada, and mention "Deloitte" and you'd be given attention, but apart from Nigeria, very few people know about First Bank.

Deloitte pays more as well, after training school FBN pays around 140K while entry level for Deloitte is at least 180K and increase of salary is WAY FASTER as well as promotions at Deloitte.

Also, at Deloitte if you are in audit unit you'd be placed on direct ICAN path and you'd be fully supported financially right from the start to achieve it. At First bank, such only comes at a need basis after appraisals and review of need.

Deloitte is more competitive career wise and if you want a real challenge which you think you have the capabilities to achieve then Deloitte is for you. Yes, work stress is higher at Deloitte as you might give away some weekends and all, but Deloitte's awesome holiday plans and work-leisure allowances would surely make up for the extra stress you give in to the competitive lifestyle at Deloitte.

Most banks have their auditing done by auditing firms like Deloitte so you should know what that means. Even when you are hearing about stuff like "World richest football clubs" and all, who do you think audits such? You guessed right! - Deloitte is responsible for that.

I'm really surprised you are confused here because Deloitte is not on the same level with First bank in anyway, I'm a First bank GT 2017 hopeful but I'd tell you the truth, and if I had the opportunity of getting into any of the "Big four" I wouldn't think twice, circumstances, time et al might make it difficult for me to get an opportunity working with Deloitte like you but no regrets though, I'm still grateful to God for being a First bank GT hopeful because First bank is still one of the best places to work in but you on the other hand have the luxury of even something better, make sure you make the best choice, I wish you all the very best!

Nice post as usual, but permit me to add a few points.

Deloitte is definitely internationally recognized worldwide, but not as much in Nigeria, as they are currently the least of the big 4 (revenue and staff strength). Not in pay tho, as entry level staffs are paid higher than their colleagues in KPMG and EY, but also not as high as PwC (after confirmation), and definitely not over 200k.

The major difference comes in form of allowances, that's the area where banks pay better than these consulting firms, and at the end of your stay in any of the bIG 4s, you walkway with nothing other than what you have saved personally.

Promotion like you said is strictly based on performance and is on a yearly basis. So there's a faster opportunity of career growth and a rich learning process.

One important thing to note however is that in any of the BIG 4s, you'll be given a period of time to get chartered (usually 3 attempts per stage) or 3 to 4 years, depending on your course of study, failing which you'll be asked to resign. This is the added pressure that comes with the job, as you'll have to find a perfect balance between getting to know your job and being good at it, and also getting your certification within the period of time specified. However, with commitment and dedication, this is very achievable.

In summary, its a good place to start ones career and I'll go with your advise

To the words in bold, you are very correct! Here in Nigeria, KPMG and PwC are higher in recognition as compared to Deloitte but on the world scene Deloitte is the biggest of the "Big four" in the world, they have the largest revenue and the largest workforce. So I was talking about Deloitte's international recognition. Check more here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Four_accounting_firms

You are very correct as well in regards the pressure that comes with working with the Big four, like I earlier said, its a very competitive environment and its for those who want a challenging career and believe they have the capabilities to achieve it.

As regards salary, I have heard of tax analysts salaries at Deloitte that come within the range of 2.4M to 2.6M per annum and hence my 210K salary range, it might be not exactly that amount but it would surely be in that region, and for sure Deloitte would pay higher than First bank entry level.

Thank you for your addition, you sure have competent knowledge as regards the matter at hand.

Bro weigh your career prospects and what you want from life.
It's isn't about pay at all, as both can't be paying poorly. Once you set your foundation properly, the money would follow suit.
Becoming a partner in any of the Big4 in Nigeria isn't easy or given at when due.
But like I said weigh your career prospects, then go for whichever you feel is best for you. Please not make a decision based purely on remuneration.

Let us note too.
That Deloitte UK or US isn't the same as Deloitte Nigeria. KPMG Nigeria isn't the same as KPMG UK. Both bear the same name but are quite autonomous.

Bro, go for deloitte. it's easier to switch from human resource when you get in. with your qualifications and all, I don't think you can be stagnant in a department, unless you wish it.

This should even be a no brainier, There's no bank in Nigeria that can offer you the kind of expertise and knowledge the BIG 4 will. cloud9usher, lovely points, however PwC is the biggest actually, Deloitte is playing catch up and they all pay within 120k-160k for entry level position.

Well, for sure Deloitte pays higher than First bank entry level, what First bank staff would have better than Deloitte would be the allowances you enjoy with First bank after you are confirmed. Like one of my senior colleague working at First bank always says: "If your eyes are fixed on salary for First bank you might be disappointed but its the allowances that put the icing on the cake"

But I tell you that having Deloitte on your CV makes you stand out anywhere, most people start off at places like Deloitte and then cross over after a while to places like banking, oil and gas and get higher management positions in such firms, Deloitte would give you a better springboard in your career pursuits.

You said you were offered a role in HR, from your qualifications you are a top notch candidate for Audit unit and not HR, you'd hopefully become chartered soon so I don't see the sense in you being in HR, and you sure know that the fastest growth paths in Deloitte are in Audit or Tax units and not in HR, so if I were you I'd think twice here. That's why from the start of my post I asked if the position at Deloitte is a audit/tax analyst/associate position or not.

Why should you become chartered and be working in some boring HR unit? HR at Deloitte is not as juicy as First bank HCMD (Human Capital Management and Development) where trainees look forward to making it into HCMD after training school, HCMD at First bank is like the hot cake place for trainees.

The best firm for your career path is definitely at Deloitte but the unit you are being offered at Deloitte doesn't conform with your career path so I think its better to get chattered and finish training school with First bank and then get streamlined towards accounting/auditing management positions in First bank. I don't think you can switch easily from HR to audit in Deloitte, if you can then you can go for Deloitte but if you easily can't then First bank it is.
