Emyogalanya:No it wasnt. The only difference is that our Colonial masters, Britain, are a civilised people. If Britain had wanted, they could have said 'the unity of the British empire is not negotiable!' They would then throw all the nationalist who were agitating for independence like Zik and Awolowo into jail, try them for treason and gun down anyone who came out to protest. But Britain, being the civilised country it is, knew that it is wrong to hold anyone against their will. So they granted everyone their independence at the appropriate time. Countries like Nigeria, India, Ghana and the rest all got their independence and the British empire was no more. Britain even allowed its own area, Scotland, a referendum in 2014. But Nigerians are far from being as civilised as Britain. Thats why Nigeria is still shooting Biafran protesters, detaining and charging Kanu and his supporters to court and stating that "the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable" |

I think it is the un-written part as you can't colonise a country forever. There has to get to a point when they will rise up knowing they can be able to run their own affairs themselves thereby agitating for indepenence. Baifra needs to be listened to..... their egos also need to massaged. I see oduduwa springing up with their own agitation very soon. |
