It is a worst shameful story that governors of states in Nigeria cannot pay workers monthly salaries

despite huge monthly allocations from Abuja...

Why can states NOT generate billions of money (IGR) more than their allocations?...

despite the huge human and economic resources available?

It is because of too much corruption; chop and die in office syndrome...may GOD save our 9ja workers from heartless RULERs!!!

Have you evaluated your statement ?

The work they are currently undertaking, they are not getting paid. So who and what is presently feeding them ?

If they collectively take a common stand, they would get paid.........

They can't pay salaries but they can afford to subsidize Hajj; very useless set of people parading themselves as public officials.

What an irony. The future of paying workers hard earned money is bleak. But the future of politicians stuffing peoples hard earned money is bright.

Meritocracy:
Not only tax is IGR, Ondo and others should go for mechanised farming, they have enough land and need not to wait for FG. Those Governor are very lazy and Federal Allocation dependants.
Isn't it easier for private hands to deal with that business and the govt would merely tax them? Does a govt have the entrepreneurial spirit to run a business where it's profits are applied to state affairs?

I am afraid of Nigeria future as many commentators have displayed real lack of financial knowledge about the country.
How on Earth would an educated person compare Obj or Jonathan administrations with this present situation?
During Obj, crude oil which is a sole source of income per barrel was $80 while it rose to $125/barrel during Jonathan but now a barrel is sold less than$40 while the demand in terms of recurrent expenditures is steadily increasing.

Even the so-called educated and elites because of politics have lost their sense of judgment and live in the mirage of themselves.

God have mercy

They should downsize na. What is so hard in that. Does government exist to pay salaries. What kind of rubbish is this failed contraption called the Nigerian state.

Government should simply privatize what it cannot manage and rest.

Why run a revenue generating agency and still owe the workers of such agencies! It's meaningless.
Exactly. I just understand what kind of nonsense is this. Every enterprise or establishment passing through financial stress seeks to cut costs or transfrer same either temporarily or permanently. How can states be owing salaries for years now without solution and their chief executives doing nothing about it. If they cannot pay, they should cut, simple. If your revenue has gone down by 30 percent , your wage bill should go down by 40 percent to remain stable and viable. If they are borrowing to pay salaries or cutting back on potential revenue generating or revenue saving projects, the states will soon implode finacially.

If Nigeria is restructured there will be less burn for the federal government.

States in Nigeria will live according to their capacity and income.

It makes no sense to see states like Zamfara, Katsina, Osun wanting to live big like Lagos state, Rivers state or Akwa Ibom.

States in Nigeria should be merged to regions and let the federal government have less burden to carry.

This is simply bad management. How and why has the recurrent expenses increased with dwindling revenues. Who is getting paid more for doing less. What are you saying. It is the government that has lost its sense of judgement. It shoukd cut back, increase efficiency and invest in technology to further dampen the high bills. If the oil prices have fallen by 30 percent ask yourself, what is 70 percent of a bulletproof mercedes benz limousine. Perhaps an ordinary mercedes benz limousine with better security. Invest in that. That is what sane people do. As the CEO of a state it will not take me two years to sustain expenditure. Critical thinking is required in this country not this nonsense going on.

Remove the salaries and allowances of politicians n their cronies n see if each state will not clear d backlog in a month or two.
They use the over bloated wage bills to make d state wage bill seem unrealistic.
