Summary :you can be anything you want ,do proper research and u 'll be amazed @ what opportunities you have by the way Education doesn't end at 1st degree....

Research Institute/org., Lecturing ,brewies ,refineries ,laboratories, hospitals ,sea ports , banks (everybody works in the bank)...food/drug processing industries

There's no such thing as sheer wickedness and Nigerian factor bruh there's no medically oriented SLT (it's something (illusion) they created). MLS isn't biting more than they can chew, they are only practicing based on the existing law regulating the different professions. If by law there's anything as such as medically oriented SLT, it should be in the Act establishing SLT and the practice of such "medically oriented SLT" becomes legal.
BTW no MLS will equate him/herself to a medical doctor as both exist independently and are only complementary to each other for the purpose of our patients.

The fact dt SLT is run in polytechnic and mls is not has not made SLT any inferior but mls I believe offer equivalent of ND/ HND which I believe are d equivalent of mls technicians / mls assistant, polytechnic run all their program from ND to HND is 5yrs sir, while the universities is 5yrs plus NYSC which is total 6yrs, pls note mlscn decided to make theirs 7yrs with internship because they were in fighting with medical doctors so they decided to upgrade for them to be respected that their certificate also takes this long to be earned like d doctors, all d recent changes in mls sir is as a result of being looked down within d health sector by other health professionals leads to mls fast and proactive growth, mind u SLT have its own policies and we run at our own pace but as chartered scientists we will get there.... Note that the fact that u spend 7yrs to get mlscn license and SLT 6yrs has not made SLT not to be chartered scientists while mls just scientists. Ours is in d quality of our trainings. Thanks

Secondary schools or University Physics,biology and chemistry laboratories. That's why it's science laboratory scientists.
They are not medical trained, so they should not be going to medical laboratory facilities. It's suicidal for patients

Which hospitals did you receive hands on clinical experience and clinical rotations during training. So you ain't aware of compulsory hospital posting during training. You think analysing patient sample is an experiment. Who assessed your competence Which hospital did you train for one year internship which equates to one year experience. You can't just fall from no where and start analysing patient sample just because you did 6 months Industrial training in a private medical laboratory , its a blunder to start practicing what you just learnt in 6 months. Try that in a sane country and be liable to jail.

Point of correction ; Chief Technologist is not equal to academic professor.

you re very correct they are not equal as prof is d highest position in academics so is chief technologist highest in scientists/technologists mind u I ve 100% confirmation that both salary re almost the same but with hazard allowance given to the chief technologist makes his earning higher than that of a prof am talking of basic salaries here not any side attractions.
note that technologists receive higher pay than lectures because of hazard allowance which academics don't benefit from
a graduate assistant takes 120k strt while a technologist 1 takes 160k (120k salary n 40k hazard)

There Are plenty jobs for a microbiologist but unfortunately Nigeria lack research institutes. Hence hardly employed for their core mandate which opportunities are few. There are other jobs not considered as professionaly inclined which just requires your degree as entry level so you can apply and start a career in that.

A microbiologist can work in a medical research institute, food and brewery industries, environmental corporations, pharmaceutical industries... So look out for such organizations.

science laboratories like physics,biology,chemistry, geological labs etc anything that has to do with it, but medical laboratory has to do with clinical aspects of the lab.
Those guys that study medical lab.sc has to go through human Anatomy,physiology and biochemistry and lots of other clinical pathological courses and a three yrs clinical laboratory postings at teaching hospitals aside from normal
depdepartmental courses.
These plus other things qualify the medical lab to handle clinical samples . On the contrary science lab is just limited to science laboratories

A medical laboratory scientist works in a diagnostic laboratory especially in hospitals. While a Science Laboratory a Technologist depending on your area of specialization like Physiology/pharmacology, microbiology/ virology, physics/ engineering production, chemistry/ biochemistry laboratories etc. So, as a Science Laboratory Technologists with Specialization in Physiology/ Pharmacology, U can be found more competent in Basic Medical Sciences laboratory where u conduct and teach 2nd /3rd/4th years medical students practical. U can work in research laboratories like NIPRID, NAFDAC, PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES ETC.

If ur area of specialization is in Microbiology, the same applies to microbiology laboratories in higher institutions and Teaching hospital laboratories etc. so, it's applicable to other areas of specialization.

But if u just obtain ur first professional certificate (ND) in Science Laboratory Technology. U can work as a laboratory assistance in any scjence based laboratory. Moreover, u can apply for a direct entry into any science course of ur choice provided u meet up with their requirements.

Science Laboratory Technology is not all done in the Polytechnic but also Universities eg Uniport, Delsu, Unijos and UNN though UNN has stopped the programmer because they could not meet up the NISLT order yo upgrade yo Bachelor of a Technology (B.Tech) instead of HND In which it has bn awarding previously with Nigerian Institute of Science laboratory Technology. (NISLT).

You have said it all.Many thought is only in pplytechnic SLT can be studied most especially those calling themselves medical lab. Its high time we the stop the crititism attitude This has deprive some innocent people of some opportunities in this mation. If we will be frank to ourselves SLT has a wide range of professionallism but the problem is the country where there is no organisation in parastaters inwhich gross utilization has over thrown jobs and even not understanding job schedules in offices. This has even cause some institutions to ptoduce inncompitent graduates. In SLT a graduate must be practically sound but it is only in Ngeria a graduate of Bsc in MICROBIOLOGY/SLT will not lay their hand in any practical and the polytechnic one would have over use his or herself with practical and at thevend BSc will be proving superiority at the labour market. This has even cause the NISLT Association to adjust by given license to Polytechic graduates that study SLT/MICROBIOLOGY and deprive the BSc unless doing professional training again. Please let not continue with this attitude not because of ourselves but because some of our children will fall a victim has some have inherit the result of the past leaders attitude. Thanks

It takes an intelligent person to understand the concept. Doctors only work on results from the laboratory.
MLS are not wrong if they are equating themselves to medical doctors. Do u know why they are referred to as ORACLE OF MODERN MEDICINE?? If u know what that means.... If not so, why will doctors have to send people to the lab for series of tests after he might have carried out the physical examination. A doctor cannot categorically tell what disease his patient is battling unless he had undergone series of diagnosis. Mls makes use of blood, stool samples, urine,hvs, sputum to mention a few. Have u heard about MCS?? (Microscopy, culture and sensitivity) where a medical lab scientist carries out series of test and will be the one to prescribe the drug to be used for the doctor.. In a nut shell, a doctor can be likened to an IFA Priest, while MLS to the oracle itself.
To those of u saying Mls is a branch in SLT, ur state of ignorance is pitiable. U mean those courses u offered in polytechnic/ Uni automatically qualifies you to run a multipurpose laboratory..? Sense fall on u. I can categorically tell u that u have little or know know about medical laboratory science.
