What Are We Doing About The Custom Duty On Cars? by doctape(op): 10:17am On Sep 07, 2017
Hello all,
About a week ago,my boss asked me to get someone for him to help import a Range Rover Velar 2018 First Edition. We came across a dealer who quoted us a price of 80m. This seemed very exorbitant as the price of the car in $ was about $110,000 in total which is about 40m. Now having talked to many dealers that import cars and making some research about the cost of clearing a vehicle i have come to understand that customs can charge as much as 70% of the total cost of the car or even the same amount as the car and its not really the fault of the dealers.
If this is the case i wonder why the dealers association or one union or the other haven't done something about this. This country is not helping us one bit.We are a very useless currency and our naira has so depreciated that we have already paying twice the amount we paid for things in the past and yet rather down bring down some policies they still went ahead to charge this high for clearing a vehicle. Are they asking us to buy indigenous vehicles? Why haven't government parastatals not started using Innoson Motors or the likes? What is wrong with Nigeria,we are so messed up.
The other day they were banning songs that have already gained airplay and television views. How stupid is that? Are you also going to ban the foreign songs from playing in any nigerian media? Is it only nigerian music that have vulgar lyrics and encourgae tobacco smoking.
Its as though most of the organisations in nigeria are just trying to act like they are actually working so they can justify their paycheck.
Someone struggles to pay more than double for something, one custom would go ahead to ask him to double the money again before he can clear it.That's plain extortion and we seem to be fine with it.
Like that woman in that pulse video-This nigeria no go better again

i thought the same way a while back, and did think that dealers were greedy, until it was confirmed that duty is mind boggling!!!!
i was then wondering how anyone could buy cars on credits in Nigeria, since the price of these cars is so inflated at the end.

no wonder so many are trying to cheat the system, when a $100K car will cost you $200K on Nigerian soil!
