ASUU STRIKE

Dedicated to all Nigerians

"Mayson you don hear the latest?" I asked, with a broad smile.
"wetin happen?" He asked, with curiosity written all over his face.
"mehn, ASUU don strike, men done dey loose guard men for the town, men don dey move go house" I said
"na lie... Why ASUU go strike when we never even start exam, mtcheww, Exam na next month here o. Na graduation things we suppose dey reason".
"no be lie... Anyway sha, me still dey here. I no fit go Lagos, besides Lagos too far and money no dey, my pocket be like dried well, everywhere zaba" I said.

The strike was actually unexpected, no one predicted such event could ever happen until now, and the worst part was that we were so close to leaving the university and becoming young graduates and quite frankly, exam was actually just a few weeks from here.

"Mayson, I wan dey go house. I don dey H" I said, as I felt my tummy vibrating aloud like Nokia 3310.
"E no matter nah, you no go like kush?" He asked
"Baba, on top this my condition. You no like me o" I said, while trying to force my left leg into my timberland shoe. "I don dey move o".
"I go bell you later na" he said, as he escorted me to the gate.

As I walked through poultry road, I could see students in mass, carrying their bags and baggage's as if there was to be another reoccurrence of the events which took place in 1966. Bikes where moving to and fro, carrying students with huge luggage's.
While I was walking through the narrow path towards my hostel, I heard my phone ring. It was Thompson, my old friend and colleague.

Me: Fela how far na
Thompson: I dey, Wetin-Dey sup for your side?
Me: Mehn, nothing much. I even dey go my hostel, hungry dey wire me.
Thompson: As for me, me don gbaga o. Me and Smart done dey move comot for this area as I dey speak.
Me: Una wan leave me for this town abi, no be so o
Thompson: Na Benin here we dey go na. Na backyard.
Me: No wahala o.

After our conversation, I got into my room, laid on my bed, and I began to devise means of getting food to eat.

"mehn, food don finish for house. I am dead. Like I am so fuxked up right now. I for go Doris house but I no know if she go dey house. Mary for don move, that one no dey hear anything holiday. Mm, Juliet, Juliet, Juliet...." I thought deeply. " mehn, make I call her?... No no no. I no wan fall my hand. Oboy afternoon don dey reach o, make man pikin no go faint o.... I gast summon courage, ... I go bell am".

Juliet was actually my ex, I still had feelings for her, but going to meet her to cook for me, didn't sound pleasant to me. Nah, it sure didnt
But I summoned courage and I dialed her number, only for me to hear... "the Mtn number you have dialed is switched off, please try again later".

I laid back on my bed, counting the ceiling... "1,2,3. 3*4,". I completely had no choice. While counting, I prayed silently.

"Baba God, good afternoon. Your boy don still come o, your boy dey H o. As I dey here so, Baba, I never chop since yesterday afternoon o. Baba, I never ready to die o. Na beg I dey beg o. Baba, I know say you don answer me, because you no dey fail. Thank you Jesus. Amen".

I took a sachet of water, lying very close to me and squeezed the entire content into my mouth, my belly became filled to the brim.
Minutes later, I heard my phone ring, I checked the callers ID, "Mayson DOC" was inscribed on my phone screen.

Me: Baba, how far
Mayson: You dey do anything for house?
Me: Nooo, I just dey.
Mayson: Ok, show my side.
Me: No probs

About 10 mins later, I was at Maysons crib. He had a packet of trams with him. He stretched it towards me.

Mayson: How far dey with this one.
Me: ....
Mayson: Temy, wetin dey sup?
Me: I dey H.
Mayson: You never still cha?
Me: Noo
Mayson: And me dey comot this town ryt now.
Me: You too still wan still leave me for this town too? Why na. My own done finish.

To be continued...

Welcome back bro...
Re: ASUU Strike: A Trip From Ekpoma To Benin by YungTemy(m): 6:06pm On Sep 16, 2017
I went straight to Maysons house, I could see him arranging his things already. So I approached him,

"Mayson how far Na, you don dey move leave me abi. No wahala now". We shake hands.

"Na so na, wetin man go do, when Assu don send us parking. Temy, Dey with me nah".
"like forreal?.. Abi you dey follow me dey joke" I said, looking so excited.
"of course na... Go arrange your things sharp sharp.2 Pm don almost nack o".
"I go pay your T-fare. No worry"
"no wahala na. Everywhere good. Give me like 5 mins." I said
It had been over 6 years since I last visited Benin city... Benin city, the great Benin. Oba Atokpe e iseee. Ever since I left Benin, I've always longed to go back.
The city is so beautiful. Well accommodating, with several places to visit when bored. There are lots of businesses and enterprises there also.
Well, that had been a long time ago though and here I am with my bag pack filled with every thing I needed for my journey.
"Mayson how far, I done ready o"
"okay, make we ball".
*************
We took a bike, heading straight to big joes motor park. When we got there, the place was filled with lots of students. They were possibly about a hundred students, waiting for bus heading to their various destination.
"men see how everywhere full anyhow" I said, angrily. so, this big Joe people wan spoil my movement abi? I thought.
"bad market. I swear" mayson said as he came off the bike and paid off the aboki bike rider.
"oboy! No be this park, this babe, em T-boss been enter bus? Abi I dey see double?" I asked
"yes nah, that Big brother naija babe wey dey form say she no dey enter bus. Na only plane she dey use. First class things. Na this park she dey use wella. Yeye babe".
We relaxed a bit when we were told that more buses were coming back to carry more passangers. We went to a shop very close to the park, we got ourselves cold drinks and snacks.
"Temy, bus done show. Make we quick book space for front" Mayson said.
"no be liez o" I said.
A Custer bus stopped in front of the park, before they opened the doors of the buss , students began to rush inside. I saw a girl jump through the window, another and yet another girl. Three girls.
"Mayson you see wetin I see now now" I asked, shocked to the brim
"Oboy! How far no time make we secure this bus o"
We entered into the boss but how we entered, please abeg no ask me, its just for security reasons. We smiled, a smile of being victorious.
I looked out of the window, and surprisingly we saw a girl crying, she put both hands on her head and began to roll on the floor like someone possessed by marine spirit.
"Wetin dey do this one?" Mayson asked
"oboy, e be like say her cake wey she been dey carry done fall, during the time wey she been dey struggle enter the bus. I just dey pity the cake... Sorry the babe" I replied, while trying to find a proper angle, to witness the event.
"the wedding cake don fall o, I don die. I don die o" she cried, as she kept rolling on the floor. "I done die o. Cake of 40k just go like that. No it is not possible. My own don finish"
People tried to calm her down but she kept crying and crying. I felt pity for her, but there was absolutely nothing I could do.
"and this girl fine o" Mayson said
"no be lie she goes well" I approved.
Mayson paid for the both of us, and in no time, the bus took off. Benin here I come.

"the road don bad o, so we go pass another route entirely" our bus driver said with a frown on his face. "government no wan do anything concerning the road, their own na to just dey embezzle money".
Well, Of course I heard about the dilapidated state of the road leading to Benin, and I felt really bad about it. A journey of an hour could take almost almost two to three hours before we could get to our destination.
The coaster bus zoomed off in full speed and I could fill the cool wind splashing on my skin.
I was indeed happy though because I had missed the wonderful feeling and experience of Benin and here I am going back to my "zanga" courtesy of my friend, Mayson.
In the bus, a light skinned man with beards on his face like that of bob Marley stood up, I could see him staggering as he went towards the front of were the passengers were.
"you sure say everywhere clear so" Mayson whispered into my ear."the guy be like Boko haram. Me dey fear o"
"make we observe First, just incase... Window no too far from where I dey. I fit jump as this bus dey move so" I said, but deep down I was scared as hell.
"I hail all of Una for this bus o... Em, My name na Friday, I am from Togo, Ghana, UK and Nigeria. I'm a dual citizen" the man said with a broad smile on his face.
The man was fair in complexion, about 6 feet tall. He wore a 3 piece suit and a blue jean. There was something about him that made me feel a bit nervous.
"most of Una suppose know me" he began "I'm very very popular, most of Una suppose dey see me for TV, and hear me for radio. So my fellow youths you guys are lucky indeed" he said, with a smile on his face. "my people" he continued "I'm the only certified herbal doctor for the whole Edo state, every other ones na counterfeit, ask Oshiomhole he will tell you. Infact they know me world wide. I get businesses for Abuja, Kogi, Lokoja,Anambra,Edo,Lagos,akwa-ibom,Enugu,Owerri,Kaduna,kastina,Warri, jos and so many other places. My herbal medicine dey sell continuously, even the Oba of Benin dey follow me dey buy drugs, that's why he is so strong and healthy. So as I said before, you guys are indeed lucky to meet me one on one"
"Mayson this guy get as he take dey" I whispered to Mayson.
He nod his head in approval.
".... You see this bag Wey dey with me so, na my products full am. And okay... Em, I know most of you students go want my number, okay, here it is... These numbers were given to me directly from Glo. Na them help me customize am.. So Una don ready? pick up your phone. Sharp sharp no time".
I saw some of the students bringing out their phones and typing Mr Fridays digits as he dictated it to them.
"they don hypnotize this people abi wetin dey happen?" I thought
"you see wetin dey happen so?" Mayson asked as if, he was reading my mind.
"obob! Me sef tire o" I replied.
"so, I get special packages for Una today. But before I unveil it. I go enlightening Una first. The herbal drugs Wey dey with me cost 3k each, I go tell you its functions. Firstly, I get one na for tuberculosis, if you know say your relative get am, buy now o. For my office na 5k, so this one na just bonanza.
The second one, dey cure malaria, typhoid, cold, body pain, back pain, cartah, syphilis, krokro and migraine, just pour it inside warm water and drink, when you wake you go give testimony.
Thirdly, you see one so, mm, where all the guys for this bus. Where Una dey? Hehe" he laughed out loud as he looked towards my direction.
"Mayson the man dey look me o" I whispered to Mayson.
"no be lie o" Mayson said.
"umm... See my guy" mr Friday said, pointing his hands towards my direction. "you see this guy so, he go sabi do well well"
The whole girls in the bus, turned back to stare at me. I felt so unease.
"but my guy" he continued "this one Wey I wan give you, Choi... You go do do do. You no go tire. Just drink this wan before you wipe your babe. I swear she go come back for more" he said smiling.
"okay sir" I said.
"but e never finish o. Girls fit use am too. This drugs go give them strength but.... If you dey pregnant, the drugs go flush everything comot"
"this guy dey use style sell abortion drugs for inside bus" I said to Mayson.
"you said...?" Mr Friday inquired, as if he was listening to my conversation. But I played along.
"I say, how much be this one" I asked
"na 10k but based on say, I no dey office I go sell am 4k, make i bring am"? He asked
"no, I dey okay" I replied.
"bros, bring am" a guy at the back sit said, stretching 4k to him.
"please bring that second one" a girl said.
"please bring the third one" another girl said.
In my presence, this guy sold like 10 of this drugs to the people in the bus. I was shocked. Na so this bros take dey make money o, just like that.
We finally got to Benin around 6pm. I was so tired after the long trip. Benin wasn't that bad, in fact it was more beautiful.
"me wan go sleep, tomorrow we go explore Benin" Mayson said.
We took a taxi, heading straight to Maysons house.

We slept like logs of wood on the bed, we were tired as hell. It was a very exhausting trip though and this was as a result of the bad road from ekpoma leading to Benin, I didn't even know when I slept off.
I felt the reflection of a bright light on my face. I blinked twice as I used my hands to cover my face.
"uh! NEPA don bring light" I murmured. I looked towards Maysons direction, and I could see him laying fast asleep but snoring. "this guy most be very tired" I thought.
I wiped the sleep off my eyes, stressed both hands and legs, as i felt my muscles contrast together. I yawned, stood up and headed straight to the bathroom to ease myself.
On getting to the bathroom, I switched on the light, only for me to receive the greatest shock of my life. I just saw my worst enemy curled round the toilet seat. The piss that was catching me, completely evaporated from my bladder.
"o! God, what the f..." I stuttered. I had just seen a snake. A real live snake, a fat, robust and a short one to be precise.
I thought of what next to do.
"should I just crush its head with this mob, or should I use this broom to just finish this snake" I wondered.
But I didn't want to disturb it, because it was just chilling, maybe sleeping or reminiscing about life.
"should I off the light, so as not to wake this snake up" I wondered.
But I just couldn't, I closed the door gently behind me, as I went straight to where Mayson was to alert him about what I just saw.
"well I gast tell am. No be my house be this" I comforted myself.
I tiptoed carefully to wake Mayson up.
"Mayson how far... Snake, snake, snake" I said, tapping him to wake up.
"Jesus, jesus" he shouted as he jumped off the bed like someone being chased by masquerade in the dream world. He ran towards the corner of the bed, raising one leg up as if he was about to fight karate.
"Mayson, how far easy" I tried calming him down.
To be continued shortly

"Temy... You say..." He asked curiously as he wiped the sleep out of his eyes.
"Snake... Snake.. Snake o" I whispered to him. I actually didn't want Mayson's mum to know about it so as not to cause any form of commotion in the house.
"suffery follow me go bathroom" I said.
"okay.... No wahala, I dey your back" Mayson said.
We tiptoed carefully to the bathroom door and opened it gently.
"oboy ye" Mayson acknowledged. "This one pass me o. See as e big and brown. This wan be like 3D"
"my guy we gast kill am, where this snake even pass sef?" I inquired, looking for any loosed hole in the window, but there was none. The window was properly covered with safety net to prevent mosquitoes and other crawling insects from getting in.
"Temy, Which wan con be we again. Na you first me see am now" Mayson said, taking a stance and drawing backwards.
"so, how we wan take kill am. Hope say this broom fit murder am" I said. I held a huge broom with my right hand. I was about to strike it, when I saw the rapid movement of the snake heading towards the wall.
"blood of Jesus" I shouted as I ran out of the house with my bare legs, it didn't take long, as I felt something run past me like flash, it was Mayson. Mayson was Usain Bolt in the making, fastest man ever.
i stopped to catch up my breathe, but Mayson kept running towards the entrance of the gate. Well, by this time the day was a bit brighter.
A tenant who saw us running asked us what the matter was, we told him the unfolding story and he obliged to help us kill the snake.
"I hope you guys did not scare the snake" he said.
"mm, I think we did" I responded.
"no problem lets go" he said.
The man was an older man, probably around 35 years of age. I got to know him as bros ken. He was dark in complexion, about 5'7 feet tall, in his left hand was a cutlass. He was armed like somebody ready for war.
We got to the house, we could see Maysons mum outside wondering what the commotion was all about.
"Mayson what is this commotion all about, you interrupted my prayers" she said.
"mummy, snake is in the bathe room" Mayson said, "bros, ken wan help us kill am"
"ko iye" bros ken, greeted in Benin language.
"good morning ma" I said.
"good morning my children,... so theres a snake in this house" she said, while looking around.
Bros ken entered the toilet, with full force and I could hear him struggling to battle to the snake. It was like a war zone, with the sound of cutlass hitting against the wall.
After about 5mins of battle between boss ken and the snake, we heard nothing but silence.
"Oboy, e be like say the snake don win o, this wan Wey we no come dey hear bros ken voice again" I stuttered.
"Choi! Na so this bros, wan take go" Mayson said. While trying to peep to see what was really happening.
"food don ready" we heard someone say.
"na bros, ken voice be that o" I said.
"no be lie" Mayson said. We went straight to were the action had taken place.
We saw bros ken, holding a mighty snake in his hand.
"make Una dey close Una door well o, crawling things, such as this fit enter your house at anytime. Its not compulsory say e go pass window. Them fit pass door too. Prevention is better than cure" Bros Ken said.
"thank you sir" we said.
"thank you very much" Mayson mother said.
We watched him, carry the snake away with him, like a lone wolf, like a warrior, like a gladiator and like Hercules. The sight was just an incredible sight to behold.
" Hopefully they will use it to prepare egusi soup or ogbono soup this evening" I thought.
