50 per cent of teachers in Kaduna State penned down for re-appointment as teachers, failed primary 4 test set for them as pre-condition for re-absorption into the civil service, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has revealed.
The governor also disclosed that students who were sent on overseas study were being withdrawn due to poor academic performance.

El Rufai disclosed this when chiefs and traditional rulers from Southern Kaduna paid him a courtesy call on Tuesday.

He expressed shocks over what he described as “shameful performance of the students because their academic performance in secondary schools back home were ‎convincing enough that they would do better outside Nigeria.”

“This is a clear demonstration of the government’s effort towards improving teachers capacity for effective teaching and learning in public schools,” said El-Rufai said.

The royal fathers, led by Emir of Jama’a, Alhaji Muhammadu Isah Muhammadu said they decided to visit the governor to express happiness over the recent re-opening of tertiary institutions closed down in Southern Kaduna, since December 2016, as a result of insecurity in the area.

Stakeholders had commended the state government for releasing N312 million for Teacher Professional Development (TPD) in 2016.

the south is still light years ahead of the north in terms of education, even though the standard of education, generally has gone down. most students in the north are not even literate i.e. cannot read or write. I recall when I did my youth service up north, the senior students who were preparing for ssce could not even read nor write and only few could barely express themselves in pidgin English. the average southern kid, who has gone through primary education can read and write as well as express himself/ herself in basic English.

El-Rufai failed much more than that in Kaduna State because till now he's still battling and fumbling with simple roundabouts let alone flight of roads that are riddled with potholes.

well u right but don't b 2 confident in most of our youths. I taught in a monotechnic some years ago& I have encountered kids from polytechnics who can't write a good sentence or spell d name of their departments. D north should not b standard 4d south 2 compare itself with if d aim is improving d standard of education

I didn't say the north was a standard for the south. every right thinking Nigerian knows that the standard of education in Nigeria is very bad, but even in this bad state the south is light years ahead of the north. FYI I had never encountered any sec. sch. student who can neither read nor write until I went up north and saw s.s. 3 students who could not read nor write. there are even uneducated people here who can speak basic English but many of the so-called s.s. students could not even express themselves in pidgin English.
