Okay population-wise, Igbos ain't as big as Yorubas and d Hausas
I believe they are bigger. in every place in Nigeria, igbos are the second most populous tribe outside the indigens, be it north east, or north west or south south or south west.

That facts is greater than all fraudulent census ever carried out by our useless Government.

Abi, didn't one census put Kaduna population to be greater than Lagos?

Hahahaha. Joke of a country!

Jim Clancy said it in a "neutral" manner the way a "professional journalist" should always do... so we don't know if he was praising him or calling him a hypocrite. It is up to the reader of the "tweet" to make his own judgement.

Mynd44:
Calm down, Jim Clancy was praising President Buhari because even though he has his own issues, he still took time to speak out when other leaders wouldn't.

Buhari is simply a terrorist with the mindset of islamisation.

Christians were warned prior to the election but the yorubas think otherwise.
How many Christians has so far convertedoto Islam as you lied before the election due to a Buhari presidency?

No one is disputing if other tribes are outside their own region scattered all over Nigeria.

What I'm professing is that igbos are the largest group in every other place outside their region.

Igbos are more in North than Yoruba or ijaw or Bini.

Igbo are more in number in south west than Hausa or Tiv etc. The census you are bringing as proof claims Kaduna has more population than Lagos, which is Nigeria's commercial capital, with the only Seaport operable in Nigeria and former national capital.

How ludicrous.

Did your Lord Jesus also say you should lose your sense of humanity to others simply because you have your own problems?

I have said it previously, some religious people give religion a bad name by their acts of self-centeredness.
Yes ooo... He said "Love your neighbour as yourself". This implies you must first love your own before you can claim to love others. Except you want to suggest that the rohingians in Asia are closer to Buhari than the Igbos in Nigeria.

I even praise Buhari for not mentioning anything relating to
I BEFORE ORDERS Ipob at the world body meeting they would have regarded themselves as something.
The problem with the I BEFORE OTHERS is that they always want to be the be all and take all. In the first republic, when they had almost 75% of the major ministerial and government agencies appointment there were no call for marginalization even during the Shagari and Yardua administration they held major appointments. We knew who was who in terms of ministerial appointments and government departments and agencies during the Ebele Jonathan administration and now that things seemed to have changed a bit they are now crying wolves. The Yorubas who were even supposed to cry fowl over what has been happening since 1960 till date refused to agitate because God's grace has built Yoruba culture not to be sad what ever the condition and that is why we are moving up or how do you imagine when the only 2 political appointments allocated to the Yorubas in the first republic were Information and Post and Telegraph while the I BEFORE OTHERS took over the rest _name it, is it Education, External affairs , Finance,Transport, or is it Aviation's of Mr. Timber and Caliber who carried scores of ANTILOGU DANCERS to the U S and only very few were returned; just to mention a few. So for them I say "enough is enough" says Ukpabi Asika .

I am very sure that is not all the president that had the courage to mount the podium to give speech. I appreciated him to have mustered the strength considering the fact that he just came out of the sick bed. After all, what ever he read was wriuen by people who should have known better, or, why they go with him? Please free him.

The Akwa ibomites aren't same as the igbos , they are only found in pockets around and never in large numbers. There's also a wrong assumption that every one from akwa ibom to be of same tribe which isn't true.

The British rigged the election in favour of the north not hausa. Population census has always been calculated between North and South, not tribe.

And yes the Harold Smith account isn't to be swept away. As the census account has appeared on his webpage. To give support to this, let me point you to the first census in Nigeria , the 1921 census!

The 1921 census gave the Northern Province 10.26 million and the south, 8.37 million.

The 1931 census gave the north a total of 11.44 million and the south, 8.49 million.

According to this report, after a decade of the first colonial census, the northern population grew with over a million, while the entire South just notched a fraction remaining at same figure.

The British reluctantly left Africa only after pressure started mounting after WW1 & WW2 and they needed a perfect stooge to maintain the material resources and economic status quo. They found them in the northern ruling class. I make bold to say there's no stimulus which can emboldened a region with so many uneducated people to rule over Yorubas and igbos with their exposure if not an influence and push from outside; the British!

The West aren't a bunch of religious and tribal monomaniacs like the black man. It is national interest over religion, economic interests over anything else. See how America and Britain are protecting Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, they aren't Christians nah.

Hausas are not the only tribe up north. Infact, majority of Nigeria's over 400 ethnic groups are found up north.

However the political north has wrongly morphed into something of the entire north being Hausa-fullani which isn't true.

Also majority of Nigeria's infant mortality rate and low birth and life expectancy occurs up North. Also ebonyi state in south East give birth randomly too.

Lastly, the population is north Vs south and there's no logical thinking that the north will out populate the entire South West and South East.
I like your matured analysis but i will still disagree with you.you said census of 1921 and 1950s put the north above the south and that it may have been slightly rigged in favour of the north but still puts the north population higher.ebonyi state giving birth randomly is miniscule because they are the smallest ibo states.i have been there, there are mostly monogamous.i dont see how a mostly monogamous south can be more populous than a mostly polygamous north.the south is more populous by density but when spread over the large landmass of the north,it gets smaller.you have not shown or given a strong fact to prove that the north is lesser than the south.am aware that akwa ibom have several ethnicities,am from akwa cross region.most ethnic groups in nigeria are in the north as you said but cia reports put the hausas as constituting 44 percent of the north.all census of the colonial era put the hausas slightly as number one.you cant say the british morphed other groups with the hausas because even the fulanis and other northern tribes were recorded separately.the british are meticulous, careful and knew all the tribes in nigeria more than we know ourselves.the hausas who are polygamous should be the biggest followed by the yorubas who have a large muslim population.i dont see how the monogamous ibos should be number one,its not possibly.every region has a high level of mortality rate but i know that of the north is slightly higher.

Oga,no census has ever put kaduna ahead of lagos oh.only kano state was ranked higher.ibos are everywhere because they have a very small landmass which chokes up space and brings up familial competition and rivalry forcing half of ibos to migrate to other parts but that doesnt make them the largest ethnicity.the ibibios are everywhere in south south, after the indigenous groups, they constitute the 2nd or third largest ethnicities but the ijaws are still the largest ethnicity.the jews are everywhere but they are not the largest in the world.ibos also move out inorder to sell their busines well which also makes them ubiquitous and again ibos are loud and love to showcase their presence.the ohanaeze and other notable groups have severally stated that half of ibos are outside the east.the east has a population of 16million,there are about 1.4 million ibos in delta and 2million ibos in rivers.lets say there are 16 million ibos in other parts of nigeria which means there are approximately 36 million ibos in nigeria while my calculation puts the yoruba population at 37 million and hausas at 39 million.

The Kaduna claim was an oversight. I meant Kano. And that point further shows how falsified our population figures are.

I do not agree the itinerant nature of igbos is because of the land mass. It's their entrepreneurial spirit and knack of expansion. Ebonyi, Enugu imo and Abia still have large areas yet to be developed.

Before the civil war when all of Nigeria is still underdeveloped I'm infrastructure and habitation, Igbos were still everywhere.

Yes the Jews are everywhere because of a thousands of years of persecution but the question is what percentage are they. They are always a tiny spec of the local population and if it weren't for their distinct culture and religion their presence wouldn't have been known . And ibibios have never constituted the 2nd largest group outside their home land. 3rd might be somewhat feasible.

And those Igbo population figures you claim in Delta and rivers...what sources are you citing for them?

In the 1920s and 1930s when that censuses were held, the entire south were quite polygamous in their traditional beliefs. Even the Christians in the East then married more than one wife.

I doubt you can point anyone from the East whose grandfather had only one wife. It is actually at the turn of the millennium the South begun mainly monogamous.

Please stop citing the CIA fact book, it is worse than wiki and America knows nothing about Africa.

And I will still dispute Hausa being 44% of northern population when I know Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Plateau states aren't Hausa.

Again, Harold Smith a British colonial official in Nigeria has given mind-blowing accounts how the first elections and census were rigged in Nigeria.

It the same calculation still going on today where a national census put Kano ahead of Lagos. How laughable.

I still can't tell why during the last census the idea to count by tribe and religion was rejected violently by the North.

Am not quoting from any source(ibo population in delta)
It is my calculation based on the population of the 9 ibo speaking lgas in delta as given by the population commission.my brother, the ibibios are the 2nd largest ethnicity in the entire cross river state after the indigenous groups.you can come to cross river and confirm.most of those you think are from calabar are actually from akwa ibom states.the efiks in calabar are a minority and have been greatly outnumbered by the ibibios.in fact, half of calabar is populated by ibibios and other akwa ibom groups.i also discovered that the ibibios have a large population in port harcourt outnumbering the ogonis and others.that ibos are everywhere in nigeria doesnt make them more than hausas and yorubas.if you calculate their percentage just like the jews, they may be smaller than you think.

1) is Ibibio not native to cross River state?

2) are ogoni the 2nd largest tribe in port Harcourt? I think it's indigenous Igbos. Igbos are actually the largest ethic group in port Harcourt.

3) still can't believe you're citing figures from the population commission when we all know it's ethnically skewed for the fight for Federal allocation.

4) my position isn't held because igbos are everywhere in Nigeria, no, as a matter of fact Hausa and Yorubas are everywhere too. My stand is that igbos are always the 2nd largest tribe in any settlement in Nigeria after the indigens. In some few places they are even more in number than the indigenes.

You are right that all ethnicities were polygamous during the precolonial era but it is clear that the shift to monogamy of southern tribes has allowed the north's population to outstrip theirs.again, all population research shows that muslim population in the world would soon outstrip than of chtistians.the british may have manipulated thr census but it is clear that thr north was still marginally more populous.its also the case of saying buhari rigged the 2015 polls when we know that even without rigging,he would still have won.dont also forget that most of nigeria's ethnicities are up north.the NPC would still have won the 1960 polls without any manipulations.removing kogi, kwara, plateau and benue would not affect the 44% of hausa population after all they have a large settler population in those states.it was best to leave out religion in the 2006 census because of its sensitivs nature and its a divisive tool.finally,i dont think that kano is more populated than lagos but its clear that its population exceeds 10 million.but on the other hand,it is possible than kano is higher because during that census, many non indigenes of lagos left to their states just like the do during elections.lagos with all its touted population dont produce much electoral votes.again, kano has existed as an international centre of commerce hundreds of years before lagos even became urbanized.lastly, the landmass of lagos and density when compared to that of kano would reduce the population.moreover, the birth rate of kano women is higher than that of lagos women.
