Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. NAF does not have the Huey in its inventory. Those Hueys don't even carry NAF's roundel.

If it’s dead then there’s already a replacement in the works. I hope that Mig-29/35 story has some substance.
I'm not saying it is dead. I'm saying it feels dead to me as it doesn't make any sense that a Jet supposedly ordered before January 2016 has not been delivered up to today.

Well, if the Mig story has substance too. However as far as fighter aircrafts go, i might have to take the Tucanos as they are and call it a day. Anything that comes further will be a bonus.

I'm no longer optimistic about proper fighter purchases.

Bros, I think you're wrong on the 72nd MSF as you think it's the same unit as the 72nd SF Battalion based at Makurdi. I don't think they are. The 72nd SF Battalion was the old 72nd Airborne Battalion. But I can vividly recall that the 72nd MSF was created much later with the arrival of STTep. Besides the base signboard at Makurdi still reads 72nd SPECIAL FORCES BATTALION not MOBILE STRIKE FORCE. It won't be the 1st new unit formed at the time. Even the Americans had intended forming a Ranger Battalion for the NA using trainers drawn from US Army Special Forces Operations Detachment Alpha (ODA). That before the training program was cancelled by the GEJ administration over the row between Nigeria and the USA at the time.

In my opinion I equally believe that both units differ tactics-wise, the 72nd SF Batt probably being a mix of Spec Ops capable airborne/airmobile units plus actual SF units. With the 72nd MSF, mobility is based around the MRAP, the SA made REVA MRAP to be specific.

But I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong.
Lol to clear things up

86 men were picked out of 72 SF bn (makurdi) to add unto some 80+ men selected by Eeben to form 72MSF..the 72MSF was an ah-doc company under the 72SF bn

The 72SF bn was born from the bowels of 72Para bn(Whose orders used to come from 82Div)

when the Army saw the effectiveness of d MSF it created the Army Headquarter Strike Group(AHSG) and the Reva was passed on

presently spec ops (Army) in d north is 111 SF bn, AHSG
the 72nd and 133 AOR is middle belt and Niger delta respectively

There are also two light infantry/shock troops outsyd 707SF bde and AHSG ; The 143rd(The ones the US trained) and a bn I can't remember under Guards Brigade..These were some of d fellows that were at konduga

COMMANDER ROYAL JORDANIAN AIR FORCE ARRIVES IN NIGERIA ON A WEEK-LONG WORKING VISIT

The Commander of the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF), Major General Yousef Al-Hnaity, has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria on a week-long working visit. The visit, which is at the invitation of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, is aimed at further exploring areas of possible collaboration between the RJAF and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). Major General Yousef Al-Hnaity of Jordan and his delegation arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja today at exactly 1.56pm.

It is recalled that Air Marshal Abubakar visited Jordan in August this year to initiate collaboration between the RJAF and the NAF. The visit by the CAS was fruitful, leading to a promise by the RJAF to provide necessary military assistance and training to the NAF. While in Nigeria, the top military officer from Jordan will pay a courtesy call on the Honourable Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff and the CAS, all in Abuja. In addition, he will visit several NAF bases including the ones in Kaduna and Lagos. Furthermore, the Jordanian military chief will interact with NAF frontline pilots in Maiduguri and Yola.

It is hoped that Nigeria would greatly benefit from the visit of Major General Yousef Al-Hnaity, particularly in the area of capacity building for NAF pilots and aircraft engineers, who could train with their Jordanian colleagues. Besides, it is noteworthy that Jordan shares similar security challenges with Nigeria. Accordingly, the visit is also expected to facilitate the sharing of experiences that would positively impact on the global efforts to deal with terrorism.

this is an opportunity to start a strong relationship in defense technology with a developing nation that is already getting it right in that area. But nobody will see that kind of potential this may just end with a flimsy order and then till many years we won't hear anything again. Why not partner with the Jordinians on the design and development of their Temsah tracked heavy infantry combat vehicle or become a partner in the project by sponsoring part of it?
Or partner with them on the upgrade of some of our outdated equipments. When you partner with a developing nation a lot of restrictions are removed, you get to learn and be a part of the future. Instead of wasting years trying to partner with people that are already there and do not need you. That's why I commend NASRDA till today for knowing that Ukraine have some very serious Rocket Technology (that it inherited from the USSR ) and starting a serious partnership with it on rocket propulsion.

You just said it all. I just hope these relation will go a long way in capacity building for the air force. Our politics and policies his another major factor that kills our system: when another set of politician comes they change the top brass and such abandon all capacity building projects involved sofar.

Talking of the Army, I don't know why its a "stand alone thing". We don't get to see such avenue where they partner with other countries or do joint military exercise in order to share ideas and technology.

I don't know why our army is just like that..?

Nigeria expecting fighter jets from Russia, US, Pakistan, UAE.

The Chief of Air Staff , Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar , has said the Nigerian Air Force is expecting new fighter aircraft from no fewer than four countries to boost its capabilities .
He listed the countries as Russia , the United States of America , Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
Abubakar , who identified the NAF’ s challenges as insufficient aircraft and low aircraft serviceability, said his men were working towards “ more professionalism to meet the security imperatives . ”
The air force chief stated this on Saturday at a lecture delivered to the Senior Course 40 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College , Jaji , Kaduna State .
The lecture was titled , ‘ The Nigerian Air Force in Contemporary Warfare ; the Chief of the Air Staff ’ s Vision for Future Engagements . ’
According to Abubakar , while Nigeria is expecting eight Mi- 35 M attack helicopters from Russia , it is also waiting for the Super Tucano aircraft from the United States .
Moreover , there are five Super Mushshak aircraft expected from Pakistan , while the Yabhon Flash 20 Remote Piloted aircraft is also expected from the UAE .
Abubakar added , “ The enormous cost of aircraft acquisition and maintenance infers that such should be carved out as extra - budgetary expenditure while platform maintenance and upgrade must also be moved from recurrent to capital expenditure .
“ From a total of 10 Mi- 35 M helicopters expected , the service has already acquired two , while an additional two are in the production line and to be delivered soon . There is also an indication of the sale of the Super Tucano aircraft by the United States Government.
“ Furthermore, out of the expected 10 Super Mushshak primary trainer aircraft procured , five have been inducted into the NAF inventory to enhance flight training .
“ In the same vein , efforts are ongoing for the acquisition of the Super Tucano Light Attack Aircraft and delivery of the Yabhon Flash 20 Remote Piloted Aircraft. ”
The air chief stated that the NAF also had to compete with local and international aviation industry for the limited aviation engineers in the country.
