new report about Algeria having the Rezonans-NE Stealth air target early warning radar in service

Roman Valerievich Bogdanov, Lead Engineer for Providing State Defense Order to ZAO Resonance:

- We have a small-scale production. We are doing one type of armament - the radar station "Resonance-NE". This is exactly what ZAO "Resonance" presented to domestic and foreign partners at the "Army-2017" forum. Interest in the station was shown great, hope to receive new orders.

Representatives of the Russian Armed Forces, colleagues from Kazakhstan and Belarus asked many questions during the round table on air defense systems. Even the opinion was expressed that it is necessary to change orders for the military department, so that the meter-range stations are implemented without hindrance, not only in Russia, but also abroad.

At the moment, we can sell our products abroad only through Rosoboronexport. And, by the way, our station is popular and successfully operated in Iran (since 2009), in Algeria . RLC is a promising, dual-use and can solve different tasks. "Resonance-NE" provides air traffic control and simultaneously detects various targets in view of their speed characteristics.

Of course, we correct the design documentation for a specific customer. The station is developing, we are making improvements only with constructive ones in order to improve the characteristics. In general, this product is reliable, operates on the principle of "switched on and forgotten."

Rezonans-NE Stealth air target early warning radar

Mission

The Rezonans-NE very high frequency counter-stealth early warning phased-array radar is designed to effectively detect a wide range of current and future air targets, including low-observable cruise and ballistic missiles, hypersonic aerial vehicles, as well as stealthy ones, in severe electronic countermeasures (ECM) and clutter environment.

Tasks
- detect and track a wide range of air targets at long ranges, including small and stealthy ones;
- automatically determine the location and motion parameters of air targets as well as classify them;
- automatically provide designations to weapon systems;
- generate and send information about the tracked targets for taking operational decisions;
- analyze the ECM situation and automatically adjust to the actual ECM conditions.

The radar can operate in circular scan mode or within a specified sector. In addition to peacetime tasks, it can provide early warning of an air attack and information support for air and air defence warfare operations.

Composition

The Rezonans-NE includes up to four radar modules, each of which provides control in the azimuth sector of 90 degrees and can operate independently.

The radar module consists of a transmit antenna-feeder device, receive azimuth and elevation antenna-feeder devices, and a power amplifier. The radar’s data receiving and processing system provides data reception and processing in each of the four modules. Radar equipment is housed in containers.

The probing signal generator and radar data receiving and processing equipment are digital and controlled by special processors. A solid power amplifier is used.

The radar consisting of the four modules controls the 360-degree sector and occupies a 100 x 100 m area.

Who knows?

But the army has a requirement for this sort of LAV. It will be fantastic for us, Quick Reaction units and low fuel consumption. I saw this company marketing this 50 CAL. RWS to them.

If it wasn't for rich Arab states funding Egyptian acquisitions, you guys would've had the most armed and modern military in Africa.

Yet doing very well with your COIN engagements.

EXPLODING STEREOTYPES: THE UNEXPECTED OPERATIONAL AND DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF BOKO HARAM’S SUICIDE BOMBERS

August 9, 2017
Author(s): Jason Warner and Hilary Matfess
Since 2009, the Islamist group known as Boko Haram has ushered in a wave of violence across the Lake Chad Basin region of West Africa, at the intersection of Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Among other tactics that it has employed during its reign of terror, the group has been noted for its use of suicide bombers. While the prevalence of suicide bombings has been duly recognized, little remains known about the broader arc of their existence and efficacy: What strategic and operational trends underlie Boko Haram’s use of suicide bombers, and how effective have they been at achieving their objectives? Just who are Boko Haram’s suicide bombers? Where are they deployed, what do they target, and how do different bomber demographics differ in their actions? More broadly, what does Boko Haram’s use of suicide bombers reveal about the past, present, and future of the terrorist group?

Drawing on analysis of an original dataset of all Boko Haram suicide bombings from their first deployment in April 2011 to June 2017, this report presents the fullest picture available to date that tracks and analyzes Boko Haram’s use of suicide bombers. To do so, the authors investigate two main phenomena from the dataset: operational trends of bombers (longitudinal trends, lethality, injuries, geography, and targeting trends) and demographic trends of bombers (gender, age, and recruitment). From these trends, the authors assert that it is possible to categorize Boko Haram’s suicide bombing efforts into four distinct historical phases. In light of their understanding of the group’s past and present operational and demographic trends, the authors conclude by suggesting how the group might act in the future and how counterterrorism efforts might best address its likely incarnations.
