plus u have to sign CISMOA LEMOA LSA BECA agreements with US government which many countries dont want to.

but American companies make up for the discrepancy by supplying at component level ie maine engines, radars, CMS , weapons , etc

this is very good businesses as it allows for higher profit margins

anyways south korea japan have their destroyers based on american destroyers

i dont think cost is that much of an issue , the issue is clearance from the US government , the Americans r loath to give others access to their naval platforms since they r paranoid about their no 1 position in naval dominance.

Indian destroyers costs around 1 billion dollars each , so IN will be pretty happy to lay their hands on top notch destroyers , reasonable cost dont matter perse problem lies with sale clearance and agreements and operational restrictions

operational clerance means u will need US permission to use the platform in offensive role or for any modifications.

eg F16 which US is trying to sell to india comes with a rider that it cannot be used to deliver nukes and this is one of the sticking points as it negates operational independence.

plus 3rd party modification is being restricted .

rafale sales went through becz french gave full access to their nuclear delivery optimized rafales .

importantly GHATAKS r chosen from among these fellows after combat performance in operational areas

as far as i know GHATAKS (concept and mandate) have no other equivalents in other armies , these r regular infantry perse but meant for spear heading ops/ clearing obstacles outside the capability of regular infantry

they r embedded in every infantry unit, around 12 guys specializing in mountain warfare , special weapons tactics etc

i remember 57 trainees from a commando training establishment had run away during the last stages as they could not take the hard regime

one of the guys on his way to his home in another state ran into police who tried to arrest him

he smashed up 31 of them before they managed to subdue him

in the police lock up he manged to get out of his cell and destroy the whole poilce station along with everybody inside

they later fired .303s at him and managed to hit his legs and thus end his rampage

guy was then arrested by MPs and later served imprisonment before continuing his training

he did this becz one policeman had using slang on him

India set for another rendezvous with Moon, Chandrayaan 2 to lift off in March 2018

New Delhi: Almost a decade after Chandraayaan 1 was launched, India is aiming for the Moon again, as Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) second unmanned moon mission, Chandrayaan 2, is set to lift off in March 2018, as per reports. Chandrayaan 2 will be launched aboard GSLV Mk 2, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. ISRO credits GSLV Mk 2 as its largest launch vehicle as it has several successful missions in its kitty and the Indian space organisation is hopeful that India's second lunar probe will also take off with a bang.

Chandrayaan 2 would consist of an orbiter, lander and rover and would weigh about 3,250 kg.

As per reports, the orbiter would be launched into a lunar orbit where the lander will separate, make a soft landing on the moon and deploy the rover. India's second lunar probe would be an advanced version of ISRO's landmark mission of Chandrayaan 1. With Chandrayaan 1 launch, India became the fourth country to set foot on the Moon and with this advanced version, it is surely going to set a benchmark in the space world.

Chandrayaan 2 is expected to cost ISRO a bit above its predecessor.

US Secretary of Defence Jim Mattis visited India a few days ago and some discussed points over the meeting.


Guaranteed sharing of approximately 70% components commonality between F16 Block 7F and F35s with a intended target to make it 75%.

This is the chief challenge as the specification of Block 7F is getting further upgraded for Indian needs and the sharing of technology for commonality parts is a challenge.

Rest of the technology which can be shared without any hassles is submitted by LM for due consideration which includes all present tech upto UAE block 60 and classified tech not pertaining to F35s.

The CFTs are getting further enhanced to reach a combat radii as needed by IAF

Globally F16 availability rate is around 70% (just a tad below it actually).

For India specifically a 75% availability rate as advised will be undertaken and a Performance based Logistics and Support deal is also being planned to meet it stringently.

About Investments for full fledged Line transfer (every process) from Fort Worth to Indian TASL, some suggestions include
Sharing costs between two parties GOI-IAF & TASL-LM for full line transfer and the whole chain
This will lead to minimum production rate of 3-4 F16s per Month from TASL
Also it will showcase commitment from India and its seriousness to facilitate full transfer of the ecosystem
Need to strengthen the IPR regime and the proprietary tech to certain vendors who are part of teh supply chain,
In such places, a 74% stake to be held via US entity is envisioned

Mattis also stressed this whole F16 ecosystem will become global hub for all spares, upgrades and orders and USA will leave the whole F16 ecosystem with India only.

Mattis also stressed that owing to commonality of 70% between F16 Block7F and F35s and targeted 75%, it will lead to easier transition to F35s at a later stage.

Mattis also clarified that Block 7F is superior to Block 60 by a big margin owing to F35 tech. The block 52s that IAF knows inside out of Singapore AF is further behind.

Mattis also emphasized that PAF operated F16s is entirely different and generation behind the Block 7F. In terms of capability, the present 7F is more than twice then what Block 52 so PAF F16s are further beyond the curve.

Its also added by a LM representative later that A2G mode of APG 83 can scan upto 290 kms and A2A mode is roughly 180 km for a 3m2, ~120km for 1m2 based on various factors and IRST will track in the range of ~80km

Defence minister said the same will be evaluated and considered as per the quick process planned
