You don't pick a language because of its popularity, first look at what you want to achieve before deciding on which language to choose. For example; if you want to build web app, then javascript would be a good one. if you want to build android apps then Java would be your choice and if you like data then python is for you but I general I will go for javascript because it can be used for almost everything, on the server you have nodesjs, for android and ios app you have react native and for desktop app you have electrons. Again the web is moving toward fullstack javascript.

If your a beginner and your confuse and don't know where to start just start with javascript, it can do almost everything.

learn vanilla JS properly first, try and be conformable with it before learning JQuery, React ot Vue. After learning javascript you should learn more javascript before jumping to another one
