the super Eagles have qualified, we are all happy, rejoicing that we are going to world cup to be held in Russia next year, Super eagles were in a group which is made up of Algeria, Cameroun(the reigning African champion) and Zambia, they were able to make it out of the group, Nigeria became the first country in Africa to qualify for the world cup, the make up of super eagles got me thinking, apparently the make up was individuals who were considered to be the best at the moment and can deliver what is needed, as can be seen in the past, if you fail to deliver you are dropped instantly like hot potato irrespective of your expoilts or heroics in the past as can be seen in the case of the former captain Ahmed Musa and many others. in this case there was no federal character, otherwise Musa would have been playing and we would have kept the likes of Moses, Iwobi, Simon on the bench or not in the team at all, probably mikel, onazi, ndidi, balogun, ekong and co won't be in the team while other guys who might not be better than them will be in the team instead, and obviously we will fumble and tumble like the case of the Nigerian government we have today. If we can be this serious and choose a team based on merit on such "trivial matter" like football, why then can't we do the same for serious business that are vital to our lives like our government! We have seen that a team chosen by merit is better than one chosen based on federal character, this achievement of the super eagles tho the team is comprised mostly of Southerners brought happiness to everyone in the country! The happiness doesn't know federal character, the success and the gains it will bring doesn't know federal character rather everybody is now enjoying the fruits of this labour, funny enough the head coach is not even a Nigerian!! So my fellow compariots lets eschew sentiments and let's go for the best irrespective of tribe/ethnic group, religion/belief or colour! |

the problem is that we have youths who were interested on sentiment, although they gain nothing in it, if there is nomination today, they will dig and find the fellow come with what home in Nigeria and started screaming. if the nominee mis-behave they back him up and cry of persecution! sad! what they gain in political jeux? I don't know! |

You are right... Take a good look at any Nigerian sports team It's made up of more than 80% southerners And the team will surely progress This is because... Intellectually... Physically and otherwise.. . The southerners are way head of their Northern peers.. When it comes to politics and governance Instead of doing the same thing The reverse is the case The northerners hijack all delicate positions You can imagine when a dullard like buhari who can't pass waec is the minister of petroleum... What is the fate of such ministry... If you doubt me Let Nigeria be represented by a team made up of 80% northerners.... In sports or anything Let's see the outcome |

zombieHUNTER:well I don't really care if the team is made up of Southerners or Northerners, all I care for is get the best outcome for me !!! |

The guys weren't impressive either. |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by KevinDein: 2:22pm On Oct 08, 2017 |
jpphilips:Mr Phillips, I usually agree with almost every post of yours but I disagree with this. The guys were very impressive. Up against an extremely determined and upbeat Zambian side that beat Algeria home and away, they (Super Eagles) dug deep and got the desired 3 points. That's all that matters. |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by stebell(m): 3:47pm On Oct 08, 2017 |
KevinDein:Honestly, they weren't impressive. This was the same team they beat in Ndola Zambia, and not jus that, they have control over the game there. Then, in Naija, they were jus allowing the Zambians too much space and time on the ball. As for the topic, tribalism and ethnicity will never take us to the promise land. Whoever is gud and can deliver wen invited shud be given a chance. Thank God the coach is a foreigner. Our people can't make him do otherwise |

Why are some people like this? You only bring up this federal character talk when the Super Eagles win games. But when they lose games with this same exact squad, you don't emphasize merit or ethnic makeup. The lads that lost to Ghana by 4 points last week or so weren't accused on the basis of federal character so why now? This divisive superiority complex talk needs to stop. ![]() |

afroniger:it's still the same thing dude! Wonder how you think it's different? And what do you mean by "divisive superiority complex talk" ? You think is blowing grammar that you can't explain up and down? I know your type, always afraid to say the truth as it is!! What has federal character done for us? Do you apply federal character in your life everyday? Nonsense!! I don't care where anybody comes from all I want is the best ! |

Good point. If only we would stop using quota system to share sensitive position then we would be among the G-20. I said G-20 because we always make to the last 16 a. k. a the world's best 16. It shows why we can't refine crude. NNPC has been made national and quota system is serving the inferior. |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by Desyner: 4:35am On Oct 09, 2017 |
afroniger:There is no champion without a scar. Even Brazil and Germany lose games. We are talking average performance here. The northerners are all round beneficiary of the evil quota system. |

Remove government sponsorship or that Decree 101 and federal character is dead and buried in our football. If we are not careful, we might have serious problems selecting the best for the worldcup. Monies will begin to change hands, powerful connection and lobbying has started. Very few in the team are untouchables and the lesser weight with no connection will be shown the exit. Many don't want to play qualifiers but want to play at the worldcup. Watch as Enyeama, Tammy Abraham, Jordan Ibeh, Lookman etc will fancy their chances. Aside Enyeama, the rest might be considered ahead of these patriotic players who are the true heroes because they might have thr right connection. As a people, we are biased, ethnic bigots and extremely corrupt. There's no ending to federal character in our system. |

I agree with your post but it is however very difficult to make gullible and myopic Nigerians to think from this angle. people like reno, ffk, fayose and co. will claim that a particular region is been marginalised and segregated. Nigeria is a multi professional country with plenty potential. let's say no to quota system, people should be judged and selected based on merits. |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by tdbankplc: 8:01am On Oct 09, 2017 |
In football your talent can be seing on the pitch, in govt they don't select their team Base on past achievement but Base on party decision and closeness, so without quota system... e no go work. |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by tdbankplc: 8:05am On Oct 09, 2017 |
When we had Nigerian as a coach it was stylishly done with quota system and we got no where but now a foreigner has his job to protect so he selected those that will give him result to avoid being sacked. If president or govn can be sacked then they are good to select what they want and face the music if they can't even achieve anything. Since they can't be sacked before 4yrs then no story o |

When merit is applied, the country benefits. No player is chosen if he's not doing well in his club. Why can't we apply same criteria to government |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by SlayerForever: 10:14am On Oct 09, 2017 |
This is a reason why we want to secede. So we can do away with federal character and run our merit based system. Nigeria will never drop federal chaaracter. |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by Ballmer: 10:49am On Oct 09, 2017 |
zombieHUNTER:All you wrote here is lunacy at it's greatest height. No one will allow 80% southerners in govt. You have to fight for it like the northerners fought for it n also like the player fought for their place. The same 80 Igbo dominated team had failed Nigeria woefully on more occasions than they had been successful so shut it. |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by libertyhope2017: 11:12am On Oct 09, 2017*. Modified: 4:30am On Oct 10, 2017 |
OP...even though I agree with you, but can we be realistic? Is it possible to revert back to merit based system and sustain it? Do you know that the hate against Igbos started when they dominated everything when WHITES were in charge and after they left? That's what brought the hatred against Igbos by Hausa-Fulani and Yorubas. They didn't just start hating Igbos for no reason...something caused it! Again, I get your point, I support it but can we sustain it without hating the person at the top? As it'a right now, if you take away quota system in the educational sector for example, Igbos will flood our educational system with huge representation more than others which will bring about more hate. I'm not the one saying this, the statistics say this as their cut off mark is higher than others and same goes with their performance in WAEC and Jamb. It's one thing to be clamoring for merit based system but don't cry or hate have when a people who are not your own occupy the top. Though I agree with you, I'd rather prefer we separate and go our own ways, and for every people to develop at their own pace which will stop the envy and hate. |

libertyhope2017:I don't think anyone will complain as far as you deliver !! If it will take an all Northerners in the government to turn Nigeria into a developed country, I swear I don't mind!! All I want is the best !! Ask your self how many times have you applied federal character in your life ? Like example you want to buy stuffs in the market, what do you look out for? Will your criteria be based on best product or origin of the seller? Federal character?? Or merit?? |
| Re: Super Eagles vs Federal character by jpphilips(m): 10:54pm On Oct 09, 2017 |
KevinDein:While I appreciate the compliment however, the soccer they played wasnt entertaining never mind it produced results, considering those who we are up against on the global stage, what we played wasn't competitive, I hope they improve over time before the D day. |
