What were you thinking before you posted this?. It appears to be simple but in fact, complicated. Here is the thing though. The answer could be 13; where one (1) rabbit) and twelve (12) monkeys are heading to the river.

Another format is 18; where six (6) elephants and twelve (12) monkeys are going to the river.

My head is hot right now. I am not thinking straight

Simple, only the rabbit is going to the river. Yes, people may wonder how come its only the rabbit that's going towards the river. but the riddle says the rabbit saw the other animals on its way to the river, and not on their way to the river.
Therefore, only one animal is going to the river.

Lol, I didn't create the thread, I just tried to solve it to the best of my knowledge, and I think my supposition is somehow right, or do you have an objection to it?

You're just lucky due to your approach. The first rational approach is what i used. You see the first comment too arrived at same conclusion as mine.Unfortunately, the riddle is more tech than that. Same approach my nephew used shocked

Take note that the question says, 'how many animals ARE GOING TOWARDS THE RIVER'. And also, take note that nowhere in the story was it said the the elephants were on there way to the river the way it was said for the rabbit and the monkey. Also, one has to note that, that every elephant saw two monkeys doesn't necessarily mean each of the elephants saw 2 different monkeys, and so the assumption that the total number of the monkeys are 12 is not possible. In my own view, I suppose the 6 elephants saw 2 monkeys.

So 1 rabbit + 2 monkeys + 2 parrots = 5 animals

WWhat's your objection to this^?

Exactly my thoughts. I'm surprised not many persons have answered 5.
