you will notice excess fat when they start gasping for oxygen after little stress may be due to water change or short grading. also the freshly dead among them will decompose quickly with their belly swollen and bursting almost within a couple of hours.

That could be a fungi infection.drain the water if possible treat the pond as well with antifungal drugs. Salt and otc also work at half of one foot for 3day without feeding. Refill the pond to normal level before commencement of feeding.
To avoid future occurrence avoid overfeeding

Also, won't starving dem for 3 days encourage cannibalism? Should d fishes b allowed to feed on dead infected fish?

Second, how many fish are you stocking and what stage....
Third....their are many geological consideration in earthen pond unlike others...especially with respect to soil......that soil looks silty to me...not sure though...it may have implications on fish sight...however, if you must treat your earthen pond, I will suggest....poultry droppings and liming..I wonder why the use of formalin....I can't just understand who keeps suggesting this......

I always have problem in answering some questions reason is that people asking questions fail to give statistics of their pond and fish thereby making it difficult for appropriate response.
The best treatment for fungi infection is formalin bath for 10 to 30 minutes depending on the impact of the infection. However I would not recommend that because it requires experience for its application. Others use bladgon again you have to be very careful. However the use of salt can be very effective at the right dosage.

I have once used ampiclus (spelling) together with the feed with good result
