Why You Must Put PIN/PUK On Your SIM Card. by Nobody: 6:10am On Oct 13, 2017
Good morning all,
I decided to share this based on a friend's experience .

Her phone got stolen, and she hasn't activated USSD Banking on her phone. Since the phone number is tired to her account , the criminal activated USSD mobile banking, created a new pin on the USSD banking and moved closed to N90,000 from her account. Worst part was she wasn't getting alerts since her phone was with the guy. All these took place between three hours, less than enough time for her to do a SIM Swap.

So we all should be careful, put a PIN on your SIM Card so whenever it is put in a new phone, or your phone is restarted, the user must login to the SIM with a pin.
With your SIM, the criminal can easily change your USSD banking, and withdraw your money.

Be careful all,
Be ware.

The money was moved into another account right?
BVN will take care of that.

PIN 2 is usually used to grant access to higher security and user services on a SIM.

PUK 2 however,is used to unlock PIN 2. If you enter the wrong PUK2 on more than 2-3 times, your SIM card will be permanently destroyed and unusable.

BVN is a sham, if it was functional, Yahoo boys won't have been siphoning money.
See example, Ahmed James, sells Bitter kola in Kano Market and has an account with Keystone bank, Ahmed doesn't have much need for an account, so he gives the ATM to John, a con artist, John is in Lagos.
John uses Ahmed's account for money laundering and the related. Ahmed isnt aware.
Ahmed moves to Maiduguri to continue is Business.
Ahmed is a no body, he can't be tracked easily.
You get?

Hi Bro. I do understand what you driving at, but from the narrative up here, Ahmed must have had a relationship with John, before giving out his ATM to him. Also, BVN is actually a database of KYC. Hence, as long as Bank Accounts are involved, BVN will surely take care of it,or atleast, provide the Authorities the much needed info

What if John contracts Ahmed specifically for that purpose?
And how easy is it to find people in Nigeria?
There's a lot of fraud going on bro.
Just normal case of Somone using another person's ATM to withdraw and goes undiscovered, even when the bank has a picture of the perpetrator. Why? Because after the first month, Police would stop searching, unless you keep giving them money. And at a point, the amount involved in looking for the stolen money, becomes higher than the stolen money.
So a KYC database is useless, unless the person has a reputation and is known or there's an actual way of tracking people .

. u can't transfer money from one bank to another on first bank without the pin generated through the last five digits of ATM.. if the thief actually loaded the 90k as airtime, he must have transferred it to other lines, all these can be traced once the owner has retrieved the line.. jus visit the mobile telecom office and request for the transactions record...

If you must, let there an alternative sim that one can easily use to reach any member of your family.

This has saved me a lot of stress but the cause of not recovering like 2 phones cos once the phone goes off, its over.

Before you do this one any sim.. be sure the sim is worth it.

By the way, people should learn to differentiate banking sim and personal sim.. still, only if its worth it..

gtb customer spotted... Did the writer include the name of the bank? Its not all banks that require last four digits of ATM card to set up ussd.
