I acknowledge the fact tat e need to on stuff however I don't believe this story is real.
How did they get to know his account number
How did they know his bank
If they transfer was to another bank account then BVN is there to help your friend.
Please if you use fidelity bank, Dial *770# and see the process. He can know his bank from his alerts in text messages
One question, Shey na police go investigate the case?

Im still shock shocked
How can people be so naive to believe this story
OP said that only the phone was stolen and USSD transfer has not been activated before so how come the thief was able to do it without her ATM card details
See ehn, no USSD transfer can be activated without your account no and your ATM card serial no. Cos the transfer is link to your ATM card.

Ahmed perhaps doesn't even know his account number.
Ahmed could have been paid just to open an account.
Ahmed could killed later if they want to do serious fraud, all they need is an ATM card.
Bro, this is how ghost account come into existence. People go as far as forging ID and utility bills.

You don't need it for USSD banking. Do you even know what USSd banking is? Do your research before coming to form analyst
Re: Why You Must Put PIN/PUK On Your SIM Card. by wman(m): 3:58pm On Oct 13, 2017
There are some banks that require just the last 4 digits of BVN for transactions. And the BVN can be obtained via USSD inquiry. So this story is very plausible.

What about the serial number of your ATM card, how can you get that without the Physical Card

None of the banks I use have ever asked for serial number for USSD transactions. That is only needed for online transactions.

I hope the shock doesn't injure you someday... I guess we are so used to seeing fake news around and about, such that when a genuine one comes around, we are so quick to dismiss it.

The OP is right.. If e never happen to you or someone close to you, you no go believe.

Just grab his message about securing your sim.

For some banks, you don't need to input your account number and stuff (at least for mobile top up), as long as the phone line is the one linked to your account...

Let us all be wise.

Name just one bank
Even ecobank, you can only recharge your phone number and nothing else without registration

Imagine someone's phone got stolen, and he doesn't get to retrieve his line for the next.. say 3 days, is that time not enough for the thief to 'recharge' the mobile account of the stolen line and do transfer to his number, then sell or use as he likes?

Too bad. I recommend everyone should be extremely careful with our mobile phones as it is more associated with us than we think.

My bank always request for the last four digits of your BVN or atm pin before effecting any transfer. I wonder how such transaction could have been effected without the atm pin or last 4 digits of BVN

Good morning all,
I decided to share this based on a friend's experience .

Her phone got stolen, and she hasn't activated USSD Banking on her phone. Since the phone number is tired to her account , the criminal activated USSD mobile banking, created a new pin on the USSD banking and moved closed to N90,000 from her account. Worst part was she wasn't getting alerts since her phone was with the guy. All these took place between three hours, less than enough time for her to do a SIM Swap.

So we all should be careful, put a PIN on your SIM Card so whenever it is put in a new phone, or your phone is restarted, the user must login to the SIM with a pin.
With your SIM, the criminal can easily change your USSD banking, and withdraw your money.

Be careful all,
Be ware.

How do I do that?

Hi Bro. I do understand what you driving at, but from the narrative up here, Ahmed must have had a relationship with John, before giving out his ATM to him. Also, BVN is actually a database of KYC. Hence, as long as Bank Accounts are involved, BVN will surely take care of it,or atleast, provide the Authorities the much needed info
Right, you must be a banker ...
