Salary Structure of Doctors in Nigeria

In a survey carried out by MySalaryScale.com in 2017, salary data for different professions were gathered all across Nigeria. It was gathered that a medical doctor earns an average salary of #250,000 per month. This excludes other financial benefits and multiple jobs earnings. The survey also found out that the salary increases with the years of experience in the field. While an entry level doctor earns an average of #170,000, an average middle-level medical doctor earns an average of #270,000.

However, apart from the basic salary, there are other financial benefits attached to working as a doctor in Nigeria. According to the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale (CONMESS), other financial benefits of doctors in Nigeria are as follows;

This is just on paper by the time the various dues and tax are deducted, your 270k drops to about 215-218k. Tax for a top SR earning 440k on paper is 96k monthly.

If the figures above are sth to rely on, then, it does not justify the time and resources spent. Not really juicy I must say.

I hear you say lazy JOHESU? Doctors think they are the heaven and earth in the health sector,go ahead and do the job all by yourself.....tell me who is going to sign your leave letter,who is going to procure the instrument you and consumables used in the theatres and wards,who is going to prepare your salary voucher for payment?tell me who is going to collect that blood sample from the blood bank.The truth is that doctors cannot do it alone.

Sometimes I do not understand whether its the use of English that is our problem, or something else. Every time you people would say Medical Doctors "deal with lives- human lives". Therefore you are saying Pilots deal with animals, Engineers deal with animals, Lawyers deal with animals, Accountants deal with animals, Psycologists deal with animals, Pharmacists deal with animals, and so on. When a bridge or a storey building collapses as a result of design errors or wrong implementation or whatever reason, and many people die in the process, then you will know if Engineers are not dealing with human lives too. Or when injustice is taking its toll on you and a Lawyer stands in between and you escape rotting in jail, we shall know if lawyers are dealing with human beings or not. When some Medical Doctors have psychological problems they run to psycologist for counselling. Are you now saying psycologist don't "deal with lives- human lives". Almost all professions deal with humans in one way or the other. Medicine & Surgery is one of the best courses to study here in Nigeria. The reason they are given this preferential treatment in Nigeria is because before the country will get to this level they have fought for their rights and privileges and welfare packages and other bonuses under the International Labour Laws(which other labour unions cannot fight for) through a strong and a no-nonse body that they have- The Nigeria Medical and Dental Association(NMDA). This is why it seems as if they are always holding the Government to ransom like ASUU. In essence. I am saying Medical Doctors are not the only ones that deal with human lives. A man's life is even riskier in the hands of the Pilot while in the air. Don't get it twisted, Medicine & Surgery is one of the best professions.

Who said what OP posted was not true? With entry point of doctors being level 12, they earn as much as that with those who do multiple jobs also known as PP plus those that are keen on collecting 10% from pharmaceutical reps and private lab owners. They earn this much yet you see them opening thier mouth to shout marginalisation and wants to down tool. Yet they are the head of very health institutions, they head all the juicy departments and who is now marginalising who? They divert patients to thier private practice, they engage in polypharmacy just to sell for a Pharma rep in exchange for 10 %, they send patients to go to do lab tests mostly not relevant just to get commission from the labs. God is watching them in 3D.

The data is wrong to some extent.Some doctors are earning good.while some are getting low wages and some are unemployed. I know some that are earning 50-70k as locum and i knw some that are being owed salaries. I knw a businessman (spare parts) that earns in millions every month and i knw a surgeon (orthopaedic) in his 50s dt earns 500-600k every month.My captain friend (in his early 30s)in d army earns over 200k....The plight of doctors is not something to rejoice abt but weep on,it is a shame..Patoranking came to my school and was paid 4m.

This is very close to the truth. We all need to rise up to protect the medical profession otherwise, ......... Good bye Nigeria
