JED Sacks Over 50% Of Their Workers In Makurdi by LasgidiOnline(m): 9:03pm On Oct 13, 2017 |
By Lasgidi Online It was a sad day at Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Makurdi branch as about 50% of staff of the company were sacked. According to Lasgidi Online source at the company, each staff received an SMS this morning notifying them of an emergency meeting by 4pm, as the staff members assembled at the venue of the meeting, most of the staffs were issued envelopes. Unveiling the envelopes, they discovered it was sack letters, it was a moment of grief for those that were affected which is about 50% of the staffs of Makurdi branch. This is coming just days after the workers salaries was paid with several deductions, the management didn't give a reason for their action. The workers are now left with no option than to go into the labour market to look for other jobs. It is painful though. http://www.lasgidionline.com.ng/2017/10/exclusive-jed-sacks-over-50-of-their.html Lalasticlala

Its really a tough time for businesses in Nigeria. High cost of maintenance, bad policies etc Some companies cant even cover their over heads anymore. But most important no one is safe, no matter where you work, what you do. Always have something you do by the side that provides residual income. Have multiple streams of income. If you need a website for your business please contact me - www.leksmediaconcept.com or call 08173091370. Dont be caught unaware |

Adverse effect of digitization, with the prepaid meter, there wont be excess charges and over billing, hence no loopholes to siphon money from the poor masses hence the need to sack the staff cos of no awoof money to take pay them 1 Like |

erico2k2:Not really, most of them just go to houses threatening them and when monies are paid, most staff dont remit it as it becomes their pocket money and they will receive nothing less than 2k from u. They do this mostly to those in the rural villages of makurdi 3 Likes |

I will not be surprised if it was due to non payment of electric bills. Most people in the north don't pay utility bills. After all loss in revenue is the major reason a company like JED would sack it's staff. It is only a matter of time before GENCOs starts focusing on areas with high and consistent revenues. It will no longer be business as usual. These guys have financial obligations to meet. The DISCOs will have no choice but to follow suit. 1 Like |

Re: JED Sacks Over 50% Of Their Workers In Makurdi by Nobody: 4:14am On Oct 14, 2017 |
Basic reason 1. Not enough customers are paying their bills. Someone said elsewhere that 22% of disco customers actually pay their bills. Of course, when customers are not paying, there is no cash re salaries. 2.Poor bill remittances, even some workers are not handing in the cash paid up 3.Most Discos cannot get funding from the banks because of uncertainty in bill collection. This is unlike the GSM companies who have no such uncertainty ( in Nigeria you can get light from a Disco without paying. Can't make a phone call without using credit.) 4. Government no longer runs power, which means that there isn't any bail out cash from the govt. 2 Likes |

Solution's 1. Meters , everyone gets metered. ( people may bypass the meter though) 2. Allow Discos to operate in parts of the country outside their catchment area. If I live in Jos and I think my bills are too high, I could sign up with Ikeja disco whose billing is lower and pay their bills while living in Jos. This could force down bill cost via competition, and even attract more customers 3. Nigerians should pay their bills as and at when due. Same goes for govt agencies . 4.At some point, we may need to take a loan of $100billion to improve generation. Because really we need $300billion to fix everything |

stebell: Go and watch the discussion between Elumelu and VP Osinbajo at the NESG day 1 session Tony Elumelu (one of the players in the electricity sector) himself admitted that the privatisation done by Jonathan was flawed But the present government cannot reverse it to avoid setting a precedent It is one thing to hate the current government and another to set a personal standard of being truthful at all times 2 Likes |

BetaThings: So to you, it is justified that the workers are sacked simply because someone said it was flawed. I know you stand for truth, let them give a reason why they are being dropped. And just so you know I don't hate the govt, I am just worried that since they came in, it has been retrenchment, retrenchment and withdrawal of services. That's all |
