Have you ever come across the use of symbols or birthdays in predicting the character, behavior and future of people?

Those are horoscope or the use of zodiac signs. They are advice and future predictions based on the date of birth of a person and the positions of the stars and planets. It is practiced and spread by astrologers, witches, sorcerers and some others. I used it in my early period of conversion until I repented and was corrected by the word of God (2 Timothy 3:16).

2 Timothy 3:16 KJV :“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

The use of signs in the affairs of man is an age-old practice. In the book of Matthew chapter 16, the Pharisees sought to tempt Jesus by desiring Him to show them a sign from heaven (Matthew 16:1), but Jesus rebuked them for desiring the discerning of the face of the sky but couldn’t discern the signs of time ( Matthew 16:3).

Matthew 16:2-3: “He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. [3] And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”

The discerning of the sky the Pharisees with Sadducees requested for in Matthew 16:3, are the same activities of the astrologers and other forces behind the use of horoscope and zodiac signs today.

Biblically, zodiac signs and horoscope is referred to as divination which is the practice of using signs or special power to predict the future. God is against divination and those practicing it and seek their repentance (2 Chronicles 7:14). He prohibited the children of Israel from using it (Deuteronomy 18:10 ; Ezekiel 12:24).

Deuteronomy 18:10: “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,”

The results of divination/zodiac signs are all false ( Ezekiel 13:6,7). The future is in God’s hand and only God knows the future except that which He choose to reveal to anyone (Ecclesiastes 8:7). Man has no business with what the future holds or what is needed for the next day (Matthew 6:34 ; Matthew 6:25)

Matthew 6:34: “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

The use of signs by astrologers are also being used to predict future events like end times which has lead many astray (Matthew 24:36). Many who wait for the appointed time of the prediction backslide and conclude Jesus will not come after all and will continue with their old ways but Jesus Has said He will come like a like a thief when no one including the astrologers themselves will expect (Matthew 24:44; 1 Thessalonians 5:2).

Matthew 24:44 :“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

As Christians we should be ready at all times by watching and praying and expecting His return at the same time (Mark 13:33 ) and not swayed by any random doctrine of error from zodiac, horoscope or divination (Ephesians 4:14).

The Holy Bible should be our guide in the direction of our life affairs by God and not horoscope (Proverbs 30:5; Proverbs 3:6). Pray without ceasing that the Lord will always be with you and will direct your path and that His plans for your life will be fulfilled (Thessalonians 5:17; Jeremiah 29:11). Every other means that are contrary to the word of God and praying for divine direction should be avoided.
