franzis:Johnny Drille true, Ric hassani has the potential but remixing GENTLEMAN lyk 3-4 tyms,ONLY YOU like 3tyms, doesnt make a good case for him. Funny but true, simi is good, but need to re-invent or else she's gonna become so boring. Tjan is not bad just like simi. |

All you have to do is get on youtube and see. Check the most recent comments and then conclude. Several people do. Some just do not have the staying power and that can be said about music from decades ago. I like the way you debate by the way, its pretty civil. Mujtahida: |

emwye:Thanks for the good word. I'll check and see. But the thing is that great beats (I know we are Africans, the beat people) should not override great lyrical and poetic content. I do believe that the two should always go together. Any artists - whether in music, literature, arts etc - should always endeavour to create what would outlive them. That should be the benchmark. 1 Like |

FortifiedCity: To think that you made such a sweeping statement without even researching the issue being discussed. No, I take that back as in this issue for you not to know the songs of the artistes the OP who replied your post listed means that you do not have the requirements or musical authority to comment on this post. |

talljennie: Reason why the producers should be lauded more. Nigeria has a dance culture when it comes to music. Take away the producers and your so called 'superstars' will become nothing but fireflies. Who's D'Banj without a dope Don Jazzy beat? Who's Wizkid without Legendary Beatz on the console? Who's Flavour without Masterkraft crafting the beats? Who's Olamide without Young John on the synths? Who's Davido without Shizzi thumping on the snares? Who's.....?! 1 Like |

I don't agree with her for saying 97%... She should have said 99%.But they have great beats though. You know people are moved by beats in Nigeria and not by lyrics. Whether you talk nonsense or not, people will still buy it if the beats are wow |

philip0906:see this one point of correction "Gangnam Style" has been surpassed as YouTube's most-watched clip. After becoming the first video to reach one billion views, the visual now has 2,894,653,630 views (as of July 11), but that's no longer enough to hold the title -- Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again," featuring Charlie Puth, has taken over. Also note that it Gangnam Style won 38 award out of 65. No matter how hit the song was it never made Grammy non billboard. So stop saying what you Don't know music is not all about instrumental or vocal although they have a role to play lyrics is the most important side of music. nigeria music is scraps and nonsense |

psalmuelwater: This is what I do. I live, eat, shiit, sleep, breathe music spanning MULTIPLE genre with a library of over 5 TB of songs and counting. Resigned a professional career to pursue my DJ inclinations, so please, don't tell me about 'sorry you're a DJ'. I know my art man! Every aspect of it! Obviously, you did not get my meaning (I like to think so). You move with the times in music if you plan on being a commercial artist. If you want to remain in a niche, underground, no problem. But, if you must remain commercially viable, you MUST follow the zeitgeist. Look at R Kelly, Lionel Richie, Ronald Isley, Charlie Wilson and a host of others who tuned their sound to remain relevant to the mainstream folks purchasing music. Save you want to condemn your career to touring in clubs and whatnot, you have to stay relevant and pander to what the stadium filling populace want to listen to even if to you it is garbage and a decimation of the 'art form' (ask KRS 1 how market despite all his hullabaloo about hip hop being watered down and whatnot by artistes like Nelly and others, Nelly took him to the cleaners [dedicated a hit song No.1 to addressing KRS's 'bickering']). Except you want to buy your own music, give the people what they want!. Sultan failed in this respect, always talking about how nowadays artistes are shallow, poor lyrics etc. The people already know this yet they want these artistes anyway. Endorsement fall on them, shows, etc. His formula should have been a blend of the so called 'rubbish' current artistes are dishing out and conscious lyrics he purportedly brings to the masses. That way, he can smile to the bank, remain commercially relevant while still keeping fans like you. P.S. Will be lauching my website soon. When it's done, hope you'd come around. Issues like this, reviews and others will be treated. 1 Like 1 Share |

Kaycee7: It's a worldwide thingy. You want to know how bad music is this era, all you have to do is checkout the billboard hot 100 charts for the year ( 2001, 2002,2003) then check out that of ( 2014,2015, 2016), you would find a massive gulf in terms of content, creativity , quality, uniqueness e.t.c between them! Those saying ' 99% of Nigerian songs are crap' are technically correct. Just because ' Stout' taste bitter doesn't make 'Alomo' any less bitter . |

Mypeople2: U can actually have both! .. For example, check out that new timaya song with phyno and olamide, they tried to pass a message on a dope beat, and they did! Truth is most artiste ( Home and abroad) are not good enough so they just hide behind the beat. 2 Likes |

DJperdurabo: @bolded Exactly!!! The song ' Pana ' by ' Tekno' has one of the dopest beat I've heard, All he needed to do was throw in something meaningful and it would still get the attention it got ( because of the beat). 2face Idibia has been doing this for years and HE IS STILL HERE' Artistes saying all ppl want is a dope/ party beat is an excuse to cover up how inept they really are. |

DJperdurabo:I beg to disagree with you, and thats the problem the guy just cant afford to sing #RUBBISH, and i will love you to show me a link where he has berated an artiste, SS should be one of the most controversially free artiste in nigeria, if not the only one. You are a DJ, and to be fair, you have no business checking out lyrics. So i understand sir. If you sample peoples opinion, it will still be the same that our music industry is shallow lyrically, and i wouldn't be surprised if you take wizkid over fela. Take care. |
