When he died, I was inconsolable. I cried. I got many phone calls from my friends cos they knew how l feel about him. I can sing by heart all his tracks. My colleagues wondered how a girl will go with the reggae beat but who cares!

Feel Irie
Remember me
Steel bars
Peanut butter
Different colors
Romeo
Prisoner
Slave
Soul taker
Ding Ding

Crazy world
Rasta man
Reggae strong

RELEASE ME
Lucky Dube
You don' t have to come with me Down this road 'Cause I know my way around here Very well It may not seem like it From where you stand But believe you me, I know what I' m talking about Letting it all go Didn' t matter to me 'Cause I' ve done it all before But when you left Part of me left with you That is why I call you now On this phone So please, oh please Don' t hang up on me
Chorus:
Release me let me go (x 3) But remember that Some bridges never burn

"It's Not Easy"

Lord have mercy
I remember the day I called mama on the telephone
I told her mama I'm getting married
I could hear her voice on the other side of the telephone she was smiling
And she asked me a question that I proudly answered
She said son did you take time to know her
I said mama she's the best
But today it hurts me so
To go back to mama and say mama I'm getting divorced
Oh I'm getting divorced

This choice I made didn't work out the way I thought it would
This choice I made
It hurts me so mama
This choice I made didn't work out the way I thought it would
This choice of mine Oh mama said to me

[Chorus x2:]
It's not easy to understand it son
But I hope you'll make it
You'll be happy again

I remember in church
When the preacherman read the scriptures
You look so beautiful so beautiful and so innocent
I did not know that behind that beauty
Lies the true colors that will destroy me in the near future

This choice I made didn't work out to be what I thought it would be
Oooh mama
This choice I made didn't work out the way I thought it would
Now I'm hurting

I remember when I held you
By the hand preacherman read the scriptures
Putting words in your mouth

Maybe what the preacherman said was not something that was within you
Now I know what they mean when they say

Beautiful woman is another man's plaything
Oh Lord I'm hurting now

This choice I made didn't work out the way I thought it would
This choice of mine Oh mama said to me

[Chorus]
It's not easy to understand it son
But I hope you'll make it

I also cried too when he died and I never forgot the date just like my birthday. I am listening to no other song today. I'm still heart broken till date. Only heavens know the great jams he would have released for us in the past ten years.

LUCKY Dube! respeck lion. jah guide itinually Inna Zion land where Yuh dey pon.
Many a times iman a shed tears when mi listen to your songs cos you died fi d things you preached about.

over the years I've observed that he is not being given his rightful place in the reggae world.. probably because he's not Jamaican! but it doesn't take away the quality of his works as he is known to have the best stage performance among all a Dem.
keep on resting in powet rasta. jahguide

I'VE GOT JAH

You keep on telling people about
Something you don't know,
They'll hate you
Tell them about yourself,
They say you're boasting,
They won't like you

Tell them about somebody
They call you a go-say,
They won't love you
Now let me tell you about somebody
Who doesn't care when
You tell people about his name.

I've got Him, He's mine,
He's in my heart, everyday
I've got Jah, He's mine,
He's in my heart, everyday

I was a gambler, I was a killer,
Doing all the bad things
That you can think of
But almighty Jah looked down on me,
And have mercy on me

I've found him, He's mine
He's in my heart, everyday
daddy.

You left for the city many years ago promise to come back and take care of us,many years has gone by now still no sign of you getting back again mother died of heart attack many years ago when she heard you were married again I was the only left in the family..

Daddy where ever are remember in what ever you do I love you.

Wondering up and down the streets of soweto no place to call my home.....

Leaders starting wars, anytime they want, some for their right, some for fun and their own glory, yeah eh eh eh. Letting people die for the wrongs that they do oh it's painful. Come on a little boy, say your prayers before you sleep, little boy went down on his knees and he said, oh lord! Now i lay me down to sleep, i pray the lord my soul to keep but if i die before i wake, i pray the lord my soul to take......#DUBE

Whenever I play Dube songs and compare with what current artistes do, I wonder if the inspiration that weed bestows has departed from this generation.

Because I'm a coward,

But I'm thinking of the lives,

That we lose everytime we fight,

Killing innocent people,

Women and children yeah,

Who doesn't know about the government,

Who doesn't know about the wars... "

This is a big message to the present day Nigeria.
Rest in peace Lucky Dube.

My favourite is Back to my roots... The bass line of this track is the best reggae bass line I've ever heard. Only the bass line of Holy Spirit by Majek Fashek comes close in my book.

Great reggae artist with loads of great tracks.
Slave.
Born to Suffer.
That's the Way it is.
House of Exile.
Together as One.
Different Colours.
It's not easy.
Romeo.
etc.
