Good day all, my sister needs advice on what to do.
She finished her ssce in 2014, she wrote subsequent utme(s), had good grades(250+) except for last year but no admission as the scores seemz too low for her choice course(law) and league of schools.
This year, she scored 252, her choice school is lasu, post utme screening; 69.88, lasu offered her History Education, her preferred courses if not law are; performing arts, international relations, english lang or edu.
My dad and her is considering turning down the offer, while she opt for her 2nd choice(Redeemers Uni), if it's not yet late.
What do you suggest she do? Paying fees isn't an issue(no AUN pls), but my dad so much prefers a public uni.
Can she switch to other discipline at 200l in LASU without itch?
What's the potential of History Edu as a discipline in Nigeria.

Based on the scores you have presented so far, I must say that your sister is sound academically.

However, I would suggest she goes for a less competitive university next year preferably, a state university. State universities are less competitive compared to federal universities.

I would suggest Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST). To an extent, this school's admission process is quite transparent.

The only issue is that state universities charge higher in fees than federal universities. It may not really be a challenge since she would be sponsored by your parents.

If she made her O'Level in one sitting, then she has just solved about 50% of her problems.

Please, encourage her not to settle for less. I can deduce that she loves the Law profession so much.

Thanks so much for this. she had her result in one sitting. Will discuss your option with her and dad as they might both have issues with location..
The competitive nature of fg schs is the major reason she opted for lasu this year.

If she does not like the school I suggested, she can try another school. She can compare the school fees of various schools and the cost of living in these cities.

About the location, you all should worry less. You would not be there with her 24/7 when she gains admission. I believe she is from a good home, so she wouldn't forget her roots. She would finally graduate and go for her NYSC in a state which could even be farther from home.

As her elder brother, you can guide her on what to do to make her gain admission next year. But please, let her not change from Law. She just needs to put in extra effort.

Let's assume the UTME would be written in April, 2018 and she starts her preparation this November (6 months), she would definitely score higher than 250.

The Post UTME could be written say, after 2 months. With the same level of preparation or more, she would surely be on the merit list.
