Some telltale numbers suggest the nature of the future great power competition between Washington and Beijing that could determine the course of the twenty-first century. In April 2015, for instance, the Department of Agriculture reportedthat the U.S. economy would grow by nearly 50% over the next 15 years, while China’s would expand by 300%, equaling or surpassing America’s around 2030. Similarly, in the critical race for worldwide patents, American leadership in technological innovation is clearly on the wane. In 2008, the United States still held the number two spot behind Japan in patent applications with 232,000. China was, however, closing in fast at 195,000, thanks to a blistering 400% increase since 2000. By 2014, China actually took the lead in this critical category with 801,000 patents, nearly half the world’s total, compared to just 285,000 for the Americans. 5 Likes |

Over the longer term, the American education system, that critical source of future scientists and innovators, has been falling behind its competitors. In 2012, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development tested half a million 15-year-olds worldwide. Those in Shanghai came in first in math and science, while those in Massachusetts, “a strong-performing U.S. state,” placed 20th in science and 27th in math. By 2015, America’s standing had declined to 25th in science and 39th in math. But why, you might ask, should anybody care about a bunch of 15-year-olds with backpacks, braces, and attitude? Because by 2030, they will be the mid-career scientists and engineers determining whose computers survive a cyber attack, whose satellites evade a missile strike, and whose economy has the next best thing. 4 Likes |

Playing catch-up, China has recently achieved a bold breakthrough in secure communications. In August 2016, three years after the Pentagon abandoned its own attempt at full-scale satellite security, Beijing launched the world’s first quantum satellite that transmits photons, believed to be “invulnerable to hacking,” rather than relying on more easily compromised radio waves. According to one scientific report, this new technology will “create a super-secure communications network, potentially linking people anywhere.” China was reportedly planning to launch 20 of the satellites should the technology prove fully successful. 3 Likes |

timesup234: Many still don't understand the peripheral reality of what so-called Democracy and Cummunism entails to the states that practice them. While some would see and interpret the right of a people to sleep with animals or marry same-sex partners as Democratic, while states that frowns at such practices and seek to manage resources for the common good are tagged "undemocratic" and backward, so much has been forgotten about the Purchasing power of the average man on the street. And that's exactly what this article is trying to point. THAT WHAT YOU CALL YOUR GOVERNMENT DOESN'T MATTER BUT THE SYSTEM AND PEOPLE THAT DRIVES IT. If Democrasy and capitalism should be taking at face value the way its been portray, you wouldn't have had a United States with the world's most billionians yet one of the world's worst Healthcare system that ranked below Slovenia and Morroco. Not to mention a failing and dilapidated infrastructural system. The fact remains that capitalism-the power of one man above a million-have done much harm than good to the society. We see the extremely rich sentenced to death in China, a communist society, but that will never happen in the capitalist greedy West like in the US. Yeah, communism is working good for China and is only midgets with warp beliefs and myopic sentiment that doesn't know China has pulled ahead of the US in this area. As I have always stated over time, the numbers of warships or you have won't win you a war. It is the inate will of the people and productive capacity of a state, together with the ultimate decision of the cosmic powers that determine the outcome of a war. 7 Likes 3 Shares |

I've lost count the number of people that fvcktard has accused of being DarkRebel. Although, there was a time I was following the fool and didn't know he could be that stúpid. It was a surprise when he attacked me for an innocent comment on a thread, and started describing the different kinds of curses afflicting his family, the effectiveness of which he's a living testimony. Mazeltovscotty: Lies. The majority of US military spending goes into personel maintenance such as tissues, toothpaste, food, etc., and infrastructural maintenance like the over 800 military bases they have worldwide. Only a few of that translate into capabilities. Stop the overhype, Pentagon doesn't award contracts on monthly basis. Most contracts are given out for maintenance and upgrade, only few goes for new systems. Now the F-35 you mentioned is one of the reasons the US military is gradually becoming a waste basket. Spending billions on a project that simply doesn't work is unwise and wasteful for the prestige of the military. The B-2 is just another example, dropping just only five bombs in its entire career, yet it was hailed as the best plane ever built. Despite the hype, it has been relegated to the background with the US preferring the F-22 (which so far is a success) and now the F-35, the greatest boondoggle of the modern Era. If it were to be in places like China, some heads would be rolling in the gallows by now. But being the US, the MIC can continue scamming the government and the people. That's the ultimate price when the greedy tentacles of capitalism runs the national ideology. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Zoharariel: Saudi Arabia now queueing up for S-400. Erdogan and his military must have leaked the secret how the system was effectively "painting" all US planes including the F-22 raptor in Syria and across the incirlik airbase in Turkey. The US DOD open complain further lend credence to this fact, and that's why Turkey didn't waste anytime in pushing for the purchase. Now, other traditional allies of the US are following suit. What a game changing moment brought about by the Russian intervention. 8 Likes 2 Shares |
