R.I.P. to the departed. I'm almost 100% sure what the soup they ate was not Ewedu. What they ate is called RAMA in the north while Ewedu is called AYOYO in the north. While both RAMA and Ayoyo (ewedu) are leafy shrubs consumed as food they have many differences and one of the major differences is that RAMA meal is not slimy , it is not "hydraulic " like ewedu (ayoyo). However both ewedu and RAMA belong to the family Malvaceae the RAMA belongs to the genus Hibiscus and specie cannabinus .Ewedu on the other hand belongs to the family Malvaceae but the genus corchorus and has many species. I think the common ewedu specie in Nigeria in corchorus olitorius.
