NNAMDIII:The Navy SBS is a special ops unit that mirrors the SBS in the British armed forces. So, no, we do not have Navy seals. The SBS is our equivalent of the SEALS. PS: don't worry about the British, their SAS is on the same plane with the Navy seals. |

PRESS RELEASE NIGERIAN AIR FORCE COMMENCES OPERATION RUWAN WUTA II, RECORDS HITS AGAINST BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ON DAY ONE The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced Operation RUWAN WUTA II, as part of efforts to further decimate the ability of the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) to freely operate in the country. The Operation, which commenced on 23 October 2017, is essentially an intensive day and night aerial bombardment that is designed to rain significant fire on freshly discovered hideouts of the BHTs. On the first day of the operation, the NAF conducted several Air Interdiction missions in the Northeast, including one on a location in Garin Maloma. Previous intelligence reports, gathered through Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions by NAF ISR platforms had revealed the presence of a large number of BHTs in some dispersed structures in Garin Maloma. Consequently, the location was attacked, in succession, by two Alpha Jet aircraft. The first Alpha Jet aircraft attacked the settlement with bombs, which destroyed the targeted structures and caused fire around the structures where the BHTs were hiding, sending a few survivors scampering for safety. The second Alpha Jet aircraft, which strafed the area with rockets, subsequently took out some of the fleeing BHT survivors. Similarly, BHT locations in places such as Arra and Boboshe, amongst others, were successfully attacked by the NAF Mi-17 helicopter and the newly acquired Mi-35M helicopter. NAF RETURNS 4 SUPER MUSHSHAK AIRCRAFT TO PAKISTAN, EXPECTS DELIVERY OF 5 BRAND NEW ONES The 4 Super Mushshak aircraft loaned to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) by the Pakistan Government, for the ab-initio flying training of its pilots at 401 Flying Training School Kaduna, have been returned to Pakistan. The disassembled aircraft were loaded aboard a cargo aircraft and flown out of the NAF Base Kaduna on 23 October 2017. The returned aircraft were temporarily made available by the Pakistan Government, at no extra cost to the NAF, for the commencement of training of its pilots in December 2016, prior to the delivery of the 10 trainer aircraft ordered by the NAF. With the now returned 4 Super Mushshak trainer aircraft, the NAF was able to train 4 Instructor Pilots and graduate 16 ab-initio student pilots, including 2 female pilots, at the 401 Flying Training School Kaduna. This has enhanced the ability of the NAF to train its pilots locally thereby helping to build the needed capacity to further prosecute the fight against insurgency in the North East. Having taken delivery of the first batch of 5 new trainer aircraft, there was no longer any need for the NAF to retain the 4 loaned Super Mushshak aircraft and hence, the return of the aircraft, in line with the agreement between the 2 parties. The NAF is expecting to receive the remaining 5 brand new Super Mushshak aircraft it had since ordered before the end of December 2017. DOPRI |

NAF PARTICIPATES AT 2017 NIGERIA SECURITY EXHIBITION, DISPLAYS INNOVATIVE PROJECTS The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) marveled participants at the 2017 Nigeria Security Exhibition and Conference, which ended today at the Sheraton Hotel Abuja. The Research and Development (R&D) projects displayed by the NAF at the exhibition included its Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) and an Automated Security Door. The 2017 Security Exhibition, with the theme “Counter-Piracy and Protection of Critical Assets”, focused on stakeholders in the security sector and their readiness to tackle emerging security challenges in the country. It also brought local manufacturers of defence equipment and security stakeholders under the same roof to proffer solutions to piracy, drug trafficking, kidnapping, insurgency and other security challenges. The 3 items showcased by the NAF were made locally by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and the Air Force Research and Development Centre (AFRDC) Kaduna, in collaboration with some research institutions. The NAF Stand at the Security Exhibition, which started on 24 October 2017, attracted a lot of visitors, who were simply amazed at the efforts of the NAF in coming up with the projects. It would be recalled that one of the key drivers of the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, is “Strategic partnerships with MDAs for enhanced Research and Development”. The feats being recorded by the NAF in the area of R&D are therefore not surprising. It is further recalled that the NAF won the 2017 Technology and Innovation Expo 2017 organized by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. DOPRI |
