GoGreen Africa Initiative is an NGO project for ‘Pan African Agribusiness Opportunity Crusade’ with the all-embracing goal of transforming the entire agricultural landscape through Advocacy, Capacity Building, Youth and Women Empowerment, and Agricultural Opportunities Attachments.

GAI is an entity created to boost public awareness and understanding of agricultural issues/opportunities through research, media and educational programs. We all know that Africa will not be liberated by Non-Africans, but will be liberated by Africans where all hands will be on deck to develop a sustainable green economy of our dream for our beloved Africa.

Therefore, the initiative is targeted towards delivering one million agribusiness entrepreneurs across Africa by the year 2025, and this can be achieved through the provision of an integrated learning skills acquisition and mentorship sharing platform for the targeted audience.

Challenges in the Sector

Negative perception and attitude toward agribusiness
Unattractiveness in the agribusiness owing to the limited access to proper information, low returns, and lack of a market-led approach in the agricultural sector.
Many jobs in the agricultural sector are believed to have strong seasonal components or categorized as vulnerable.
Inadequate information and exposure to available opportunities in agribusiness value chain.
The negative image created around agribusiness pursuits as a means of livelihood and the wrong perception that agribusiness is mostly meant for elderly people.

Expressing such dissatisfaction on a thread posted by an author who is a practical farmer and renowned in producing practical farmers can easily be misunderstood

What are the characteristics of an "internet farmer" as opposed to a genuine farmer that uses the power of the internet in information dissemination? At least, I have watched World1 as featured on CNBC Africa. I do not think CNBC Africa will pick interest in an internet farmer.

The current global food and agriculture system is at a critical juncture as growth rates in yields decline below continued growth in population, and as pressures on natural capital – on both land and in the oceans – continue to intensify.

While many people are eating better than ever, over 800 million people are under-nourished, and 165 million children who suffer from stunting and a growing obesity epidemic. In rural economies, over 1.5 billion smallholder farmers are still living at or below the poverty line.

And competing demands for land – for food, feed, fuel and forestry product – is causing an immense pressure on forests and other natural habitats, not only contributing to greenhouse gas emissions but also to the current wave of species extinction.
