So that was how I decided to use today and celebrate my birthday in the office. I emotionally blackmailed hubby into agreeing to leave work today and go and order a cake and bring it to my office embarassed my first mistake. I already knew office people would buy me a cake but I wanted another one. He tried to bribe me by promising to transfer money to me so he wont have to buy the cake but i told him to buy the cake and transfer the change. That is how he went to buy cake and cuz the cake place didn't have a large parking space, he parked on the road and taskforce people decided to come today and remove all their number plates and asked them to go to mobile court. Thats how he was following taskforce people all morning trying to negotiate his way out of mobile court and finally had to pay them to get his plates back. Then he spent another time again fixing the plates again. half the day wasted, birthday budget gone to taskforce people's pocket, cake I did not get cry He said he was just about to pay for the cake before he was called to go check his car and he said it was a pretty cake cry cry cry. I blame it all on my village people. And they even bought me a nice pretty cake in the office unlike the ugly mess they bought last year cheesy If only i knew I wouldn't have bothered the son of man and made him waste his whole day and his money. Anyway I'm back in my birthday mood now, Sonofman still came around and brought drinks and snacks

calm down mama. take a deep breath. you have not failed your son. you are not just a good mother, you are a wonderful mother. there's nothing to be ashamed of.

when i had my lo, i almost fell into depression cos he couldn't latch properly and i had to give formula. just like you, i felt ashamed cos i had
vowed to exclusively brestfeed; i was worried sick untill my mom scolded me seriously that stuff like that happens and some babies take time to master the sucking reflex. i remember the day i almost fainted from worrying too much about it. my husband was crying, begging me to take it easy and my mum threatened to leave my house if i continued like that. you should see my son now; he's a pro at sucking. infact, he knows how to bring out the brest by himself grin

continue giving your son formula while teaching him to latch properly. don't listen to any old wives' tale. google is your friend and the mamas on this forum can also help out.

as for your aged MIL puting your lo to her brest, well, let me leave other sabi mamas to chook mouth for that one because e pass me.

Eyah calm down please. I can imagine the aged breast in your baby's mouth, even I am traumatized by the picture. Please embrace your SMA gold. My baby took Nan1 for three weeks before she and I finally fully settled into EBF cheesy. As long as she's accepting formula please make it for her whenever she's hungry and keep your hot water ready in a flask so it doesn't take much time to make. Put him to the breast when he is not so hungry and gradually he would get the hang of it. If that doesn't happen then let him drink formula, more babies would come to suck breast

Truth is, there is no award for moms that do ebf. Please don't feel depressed. Since baby is taking formula quite well, then continue. Just keep putting him to latch and don't do it when he is hungry. You can also express in a bottle and give him. As for your MIL, just overlook what she did. If you tell your hubby, he might confront her.

We need a voicenote option here oh. Cue tough love
Sis, you need to pull yourself together. While breastmilk is best, formula fed babies are healthy as well
1. Stop crying
2. Make formula for your baby let him eat
3. Once both of you are calm, go to a private space, where no one will stress/distract you and try to feed your baby, put the nipple plus the black part (areola) in his mouth. Watch YouTube videos for a guide on proper latching. Don't try when he's too hungry so you both don't get worked up
4. To help yourself lactate better drink hot water (Jazzyjazz's remedy), hot pap also helps. You also need to eat well AND STOP CRYING. Your mental and physical wellbeing is important
5. You have nothing to be ashamed of, stop thinking that rubbish please

I have no comment wrt your MIL, sabi mamas who are patient and have more home training than me will advice

Let me talk about the old mama putting the breast in baby's mouth. My mum had this same bad habit. She's tried it with all my 3kids at their baby stages. I complained, threatened and reported to no avail. The day it reached my endurance peak. I said this to her face when I caught her trying to breastfeed my 4month old."my children will never suckling on emptiness and anyone who tries to give them emptiness, my God will descend on them and make sure they go empty" of course she took offence and claimed that I was cursing her but I did not care anymore. I told her to pray about it. Enough said that the parent objected yet you insist on doing it then you are up to no good. After that she never attempt it again. if it were to be my Mil lipsrsealed they will call family meeting on our head by the time I am through undecided

Please stop telling yourself that you have failed as a Mother. This is just the beginning of journey in motherhood and there's still plenty work ahead of you.

The paramount thing about taking care of a newborn baby is for the child to be healthy, happy and active.

Yes, it is true that mothers are encouraged to EBF but don't get it twisted when it isn't working for you. Thank God for the alternative of formula milk which works well in providing nourishment to babies. Maximise its use and be comfortable with it if that's what is working for you and your baby.

Again, you are not a failure. You are the best mother your child can have. Be in the right frame of mind to be able to give your child the needed support.

Oya, shine your teeth cheesy
