Just curious, do we have data of how many people die in Nigeria annually?
What's the average life expectancy in America? What's the equivalent in Nigeria?
nigerians hurriedly quote data for other countries, but do not even have theirs...Afirika grin

Seriously, the OP arguement is flawed. Why do you expect someone without training to earn high? You really sound like a disgruntled person. Can you compare the percentage of graduates employed in Nigeria to that of USA? You just decided to make baseless arguements

OP...your point can only be valid if you disagree with me that until our politician and entertainment celebrities stop flying out to USA for vacation, giving birth, schooling, to mention but few why? because USA is organized and civil society is of high standard then the living condition over there is better of than Nija.
Statistically there are more people traveling to the USA than those USA citizen leaving their country...
They are all brainwashed and do it for the prestige. Funny the politicians and musicians all make their money in Nigeria. Nobody knows them in America. They are all part of the illusion

pls dont deceive us doctors have little control over surgical and medical costs borne by the patients,it is similar process in nigeria if you are poor in america, you have no access to medical care.

Poor people have very limited choices when it comes to receiving care in America. For starters, they can’t choose where they want to receive care or who to receive care from.

You often have no choice or say in being enrolled automatically in a managed care. Once you’re in a managed care plan, if you get sick, you cannot just choose whatever doctor you like.
most doctors won’t see you because the good ones don’t take Managed Care Medical. You can only go to overbooked, lousy, and dirty community doctors offices where you have to spend the whole day in an overcrowded and unpleasant office waiting for your turn, hoping to be seen the same day. You often have to start the process all over again the next day and the day after etc.

If you ever need to be hospitalized, you’re in trouble because you don’t have any choice but to go to the worst hospitals. You might as well die because chances are, YOU WILL DIE THERE.

Even if you try to outsmart the system and go to the emergency room of a decent hospital, you will be transferred to the bad hospital
Why are you focusing only on those below poverty level?? A typical Nigerian in America does not belong in this category sir grin

Right but you don't have to pay the bill in full. You can pay what you can afford every month.
Yes, if you don't pay anything and you don't contact them then they take the steps you described above. Do we have such in Nigeria ??

we do have such but it is not official and please do not tell me every american citizen has access to this system you mentioned, you are qualified for this type of payment plan if you have a good credit history and score.

this is how it works for average Americans without insurance.

Reading through this thread explains carefully why Nigeria is and would always remain a 6th world country.

it takes me only 1 month to save $2k dollars and that is a fact. Now, the average American (at least the guys I work with),invest their money in their 401k,house,kids college education, summer vacations and some even invest in further education. I know one guy who has just completed an MBA program from one of the best business schools here in PA --how much did it cost him -a cool 85k.

my mortgage is 2200 dollars a MONTH, and I had two vacations this year -one to Thailand and one back to Lagos -where I stayed in 3 Marriott hotels-still got 3 kids lol , and nagging nurse as a wife.

Why do you think the smartest Chinese and Indians guys dream to work in the US --seeking the H1B visa desperately.

One guy was talking about 250k naria as being enough for a decent 2 bedroom apartment in lagos. hahahahahahaha

In aguda where I have a house -that would only get you a room a parlor. In my mothers place near isolo 250k would surely get you 2 bedroom flat.

Please don't go near bode thomas, adniran ogunsanya, ikeja, ajah --not to talk of lekki ..

The bottomline is that the American society is very advanced, they really do not need illiterates from Africa who are governed by a bunch of thieving national assembly members.

I really do not care how much a bank manager in Nigeria earns -he is probably stealing more than he is earning.

And if anyone needs a bungalow to rent , I have one in badore going for a 1m NAIRA

The power of earning good pay in any country is obtaining a professional degree/diploma in that country you are residing. At least it's something I know for sure. I have worked in a foreign country before.

Bro one thing you don't understand about America is that they don't have African man mentality where you save millions in the bank (bank doing business with your money and making cool cash). Americans enjoy life as if rapture will happen tomorrow, they already have everything running smoothly for them. So why saving? Forget about the issue of money in the bank for Americans cos they don't give a f** about that.

over & outgrin

You are basing your argument on a specific demography that doesn't effectively capture the audience that you address.
Nigerians in America are known for making the most of opportunities that America provides in terms of education and employment. Granted that those without proper documents may fall in this category that you have embraced initially but they are more or less not the main proposition here.

The funniest and most expensive joke I have heard from Nigerians doing menial jobs in the US. and earning between $1,500- $2,000, is claiming that they are richer than bank managers in Nigeria. I guess they make their money in America while spending it in Nigeria. This stupid joke need to stop. A Nigerian doing menial job in the US. at best can be compare to someone receiving 80,000 Monthly in Nigeria in purchasing power. A Nigerian doing odd jobs for 10 yrs will still be paying rent while a 10 yrs bank manager would have long built two to three houses with a lucrative investment. Nigerians in America need to stop converting currencies because it is clearly stated that if you earn $12,000 annually in America you are living in poverty

I dont know you and i dont want to know you,But you are very stupid because you cannot differentiate the meaning between living up to standard and living in poverty.Tell me what kind of bank Manager that can save up and build two houses but he does things manually,He doesnt have access to good health care, poor road, kidnapping,no light ,no quality education and so on ...That means he is a poor man full of insanity.Nigeria president was recently forced out of London because he was enjoying the stable system with health care.

The fact is Abroad is not meant for you to become a Billionaire but to live a normal life Hence reasons why many Nigerian goes into crime.

Actually, it does. We have such stories across America.
My cousin's girlfriend was already working as a BSN when he landed in America. He settled down big time within 6 months and is doing huge things in Nigeria today.

Nigerian in america are known for gaming the system, trying to be smarter than the system but the system eventually outsmart them because they are monitored financially through credit report

Nigerians in america are not all rich, they fall between all classes of higher middle class and low income, pls do not try to paint the story as if all Nigerians in america are successful, there are many poor Nigerians in america and few middle class just like in Nigeria,i have been there and i have seen the homelessness and suffering of many Nigerians,go to the Nigerian consulate in new york, everyday we receive letters of financial help from many Nigerians in the states.they would have been better off in Nigeria.

Greetings,

I must comment on this since I live in America. Nigerians do well in America who start their business because other Nigerians will support shops that import goods from home that cant be obtained in America. Nigerians that obtain white collar jobs do well if they dont acquire credit card, mortgage and car loan debts. Menial labor in America is slavery you will be paying for your own food, clothing and shelter but never own land and property. This is how come African Americans are still in poverty after generations. It seems Nigerians are joining us in this ignorant self enslavement.

Nigeria is a very special African nation with thousands of years of human civilization and history. Your artwork is the centerpiece of the British museum like Eqypt and China. How come you abandon your Nigeria knowing you got work to do and a great nation is in your palm?

The recession will end when ordinary Nigerians want it to end. When you have the guts to transform those large political parties into crowd funding for a capital improvement program for small businesses. Many of you are fighting for government jobs and contracts dividing what is already a small pie, mind you alot of corrupt hands in it before the poor even see it. But this is no different than any other nation of human beings. Small businesses generate the most jobs not government and special contracts. Nigerians are masters of creating profitable small businesses and shops. Fund yourselves and stop waiting on an overburdened Nigerian government. Self love is the first and last love. Ase, Love Sango

Even someone earning 2500 usd before tax in America has a room mate while someone earning 80k in nigeria can afford to rent a two bedroom flat if he chooses to move out of his father's house.

Okay, lemme make a point here.
An average American City is far better in terms of development and social amenities than the finest part of Abuja (Maitama, Asokoro etc). Now, that person earning $2500 probably lives in a city far better than Maitama.

Now I ask you, can someone who earns 150k monthly salary rent a 2 bedroom flat in Maitama? For your info, a one bedroom flat in Maitama is about 1 million naira per annum in rent. That's more than 80k per month.

Someone who earns ₦150k cannot even afford a house in VGC or Banana Island, meanwhile less than 10% of Nigerian workers earn up to ₦150k salary per month.

You cannot compare someone who earns ₦80k and lives in one slum in Osogbo with someone who earns $2.5k per month in Houston. The Osogbo man is living in hell basically.

Sorry dear, American visa is nothing. Maybe 20 yrs ago but not in 2017. When someone points this truth counter the topic and not the individual. Can you compare someone doing menial job or even a Registered Nurse in America to a bank manager in Nigeria. Come on let's be frank and honest.
Bro I think you’re getting it wrong .let me break it down for you . Let’s talk about North Carolina for example , the least you can get here by working at Walmart stores or Best Buy stores is $9 per hour for starters and you can work for at least 40hours per week. That is approximately $1440 per month. Let’s say after tax you get $1300 which to me is the least you can get for menial job . Rent and utilities may be $400 per month if you try to get it close to a student area, feeding let’s say $200 if you always cook at home and other payments may be car insurance if you have a car and miscellaneous which may be $30, $70 respectively .
That means you still have approx. $600 left for yourself per month after the normal bills which is equivalent to 213,000 naira.
I repeat bro, that is the least you can get here if you have your papers and not some illegal immigrant working under the table . And as a graduate here you can get $80,000 - $150,000 annually. So do the maths.
I’m not saying America is paradise , but you shouldn’t compare it to Nigeria. I know Nigeria is gonna be better soon, Insha Allah.
I don’t always comment on nairaland but I just need to reorientate you based on what you posted up there .
Thanks
