Same thing I have been telling people everytime but they don't agree. You can only do the conversion when the money gets home.

In Lyon currently, even earning €30k annual salary means you will live a basic life. Same as someone with a 80k salary in Nigeria. Earning under €20k means you are living under the poverty line. Not even with a tax rate of 30%.

Don't think about owning a car or raising a family with a €20k salary in Lyon. I'm sure it's either you are homeless or sharing a room with such a salary in Paris.

And yet, I see these same people flashing all over Facebook but people back home don't know.

U're just making a whole lot of noise!?

As long as u're there legally;

U dont av to buy a gen

U av accessible n incomparable healthcare

Should u lose ur job, u av access to welfare, foodstamps.

U can buy a good home in d suburb n pay mortgage.

U can own a current car model, via d same mortgage

U wan compare internet access n availability?

U can actually plan for hols in various countries of choice.

U go still get change to send hometongue

Greetings,

I must comment on this since I live in America. Nigerians do well in America who start their business because other Nigerians will support shops that import goods from home that cant be obtained in America. Nigerians that obtain white collar jobs do well if they dont acquire credit card, mortgage and car loan debts. Menial labor in America is slavery you will be paying for your own food, clothing and shelter but never own land and property. This is how come African Americans are still in poverty after generations. It seems Nigerians are joining us in this ignorant self enslavement.

Nigeria is a very special African nation with thousands of years of human civilization and history. Your artwork is the centerpiece of the British museum like Eqypt and China. How come you abandon your Nigeria knowing you got work to do and a great nation is in your palm?

The recession will end when ordinary Nigerians want it to end. When you have the guts to transform those large political parties into crowd funding for a capital improvement program for small businesses. Many of you are fighting for government jobs and contracts dividing what is already a small pie, mind you alot of corrupt hands in it before the poor even see it. But this is no different than any other nation of human beings. Small businesses generate the most jobs not government and special contracts. Nigerians are masters of creating profitable small businesses and shops. Fund yourselves and stop waiting on an overburdened Nigerian government. Self love is the first and last love. Ase, Love Sango

Well said.
The problems of the black man arise because he is yet to embark on the obligatory voyage of self discovery that precedes enlightenment. I have written an entire article on that on quora

It is foolish to compare America to Nigeria when it comes to standard of living.
What is the meaning of bank manager? Banks pay base on grade, if you like be ET and manage a bank, u earn as ET.
Very foolish post. You comparing someone that is managing a financial institution to someone doing menial jobs.

This is what I have been trying to explain to someone o. Bank/Branch manager indeed! grin.

There is difference between bank/branch manager and full manager. I've seen an ABO manage a small branch and girls were running around him. He was just an ABO, earning approx 350,000/month.

He was living a good life by Nigerian standard.

If they want to compare, compare a manager in Nigeria to a manager abroad.

Travelling abroad is not only about money. Many of my married friends took the decision to relocate because of their children future. Our outlook about living a decent life as Africans is not the best,we quantify everything in monetary terms. We are here for a very short time and are nearby to enjoy life while it last.@ op,You only know the type of country you are encouraging people to stay if God forbid somebody close suffer a terminal illness, you will then discovered that all your supposed savings will amount to nothing. How many of us have the job? But in US or all those countries you can have a job and plan for a better one.How many Nigerians can live like a bank manager in this era where job is hot cake? Many guys are making it in foreign countries legally if you hussle.Educationally,we are no where,my fear for Nigeria is how we are going to survive if all countries switch to electric cars or renewable energy."if I get visa,na go I dey, lemme paying all the bills at least have seen bank managers relocating and they never regretted their actions".Probability of making it abroad among many samples is far higher than in Nigeria if you have your papers, your children will triple your investment. People quickly forgot that our children are future investment, what we give to them in terms of education, environment and oppotunity equals the returns we are going to get when we are old.Its not only house or fat bank account that is investment.Only very few individuals are making it in Naija.

You are very right sir, currently I have 3 families living with me with their children total of 14 people .Imagine!2 of them are bank officers earning 600k and 300k respectively. They decided to relocate because of there children and future.i asked them why did you relocate they said because of there children and too much Loan from their jobs and microfinance banks. I was told most bankers live a fake life that most of them rely on loans from their jobs.

Re: Lies Of Nigerians Living In America by IForgotMyLoginD(f): 3:22pm On Oct 29, 2017
I live in Nigeria doc.

My observation was during one of my vacations abroad.

They are two different countries, with different standards of living. Nig and the US. Both have their pros and cons.

OP is saying earning $2000/month in the US is nothing. Which is true. That's the point he's trying to make. Cos people are quick to convert to naira and brag that they are making it big.

Pros of living in the US- The amenities. Social Security. Credit Facility etc.

Pros of living in Naija - Affordable Housing and food stuff. No matter how much u earn, with the right budgeting, and 'hold bodi ' ,you can survive. Anybody can become a millionaire tomorrow with hard work and smart work... Etc

The Cons? We all know the cons of living in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.

It's not a matter of debating, it's just mere fact.

The grass is greener where you water it.

Kennydoc:

I don't know how much you earn per month, but just compare yourself to 'lucky' graduates in Nigeria who earn ₦100k per month. Can you survive on such a salary if you live and work in Ikoyi? Yet Ikoyi can't compare to most American cities in terms of infrastructure and social amenities.

The funniest and most expensive joke I have heard from Nigerians doing menial jobs in the US. and earning between $1,500- $2,000, is claiming that they are richer than bank managers in Nigeria. I guess they make their money in America while spending it in Nigeria. This stupid joke need to stop. A Nigerian doing menial job in the US. at best can be compare to someone receiving 80,000 Monthly in Nigeria in purchasing power. A Nigerian doing odd jobs for 10 yrs will still be paying rent while a 10 yrs bank manager would have long built two to three houses with a lucrative investment. Nigerians in America need to stop converting currencies because it is clearly stated that if you earn $12,000 annually in America you are living in poverty

I think this also apply to Nigerians living in UK. But don't blame them for their rant, blame it on ignorance. I used to think like them when I was in UK. It's total rubbish!! Why, if you may ask? 75% of their monthly income goes for rent alone and this is just a room for God sake!!
I dey here dey laugh grin grin grin

sorry dude. It will take a Nigerian doing menial job in the US. twenty years to be able to complete a duplex. Unless they are involved in shady deals it is impossible. Even middle class Americans who make $57,000 annually cant save a thousand dollars monthly. When you get to America the hidden truth will ne revealed to you
Either you have been deny visa several times and trying to console urself or trying to discourage people or u are simply ignorant. I dont know about American but I live in Germany, what u call menia job here in Germany pays at least 1500 euro per month which is about 650,000/700,000 naira which a bank manager can not recieve as salary apart from the side cash they get in their usual corrupt way or from other businesses. There is no reason for comparison but stop being short sighted. Men are doing things. And when next time u want to compare please consider the quality of life between the two countries. Even an unemployed person in germany recieve free monthly money for upkeep from the government that is bigger than what the so called graduates earn there in Nigeria. Instead of creating threads that will awaken ur government u are there displaying Iignorance. Mind u I graduated from a federal university in Nigeria before I decided to leave that God forsaken system of a country.

That is a typical village then, i came from Abia and any town 30mis away from umuahia is just a village You are paying too much even.

I thought you were going to tell me about Lagos Abuja or even umuahia township

Your question implied that there is no where in Nigeria àny body earning 80k can afford a 2 bedroom flat.
You may also call my location a village, but it is cosmopolitan in the composition of the population. There are few things you would want to get in a retail store you can't here, boutique, super market, motor spare parts.
Discussion about USA was about the whole country and not limited to the mega cities. You are thus wrong to mention those 3 cities.

"as you lay your bed, so you lie on it" life is the same everywhere but currency differs but still the same life. Nigeria lack so many things like good governance, behaviour and attitude of some people are not good at all for example when something like natural occupancies or tragedies happened to people in America/Europe people assists with basic things of life but when it happens in Africa especially Nigeria either village people are the cause or they are just there to loot the victims of their remains.
I believe if Nigeria can boost 24hrs of steady power supply every other things will fall in place and no country in this planet earth will be bigger than Nigeria if not at least will be among top 5 in the world.

About the health issue , my brother in-law who is a consultant medical doctor said 75% of the deaths that occur in Nigeria would never be fatal in the U.S or Australia , most illnesses , accidents and disorders are preventable in advanced countries , in Nigeria this isn't so. That reason alone gives living in the U.S a huge edge over Naija.

Not just health everything is wrong in Nigeria. In most Westerner European countries the rich and not shop and live within same neighborhood, everybody's children school in the same public school. So the guy with menial job has the same standard of living as compared to a company CEO save that the CEO maybe driving latest car.

Where I am resident cleaners have access to loan to buy houses and they have pension contribution, go on yearly holiday like everyone else. So yes in this part of the world a clearer has a better life than a bank manager in Nigeria.

In fact a cleaner has a better life that the president of Nigeria. Before you fight this think about this: if Buhari falls on the street of Nigeria I don't think there is any ambulance that will come to his aid and he will be rushed to UK, but if a cleaner falls down in any street in Netherlands ambulance will pick him and he will get the required care before Buhari reached the presidential wing of NAA.

So my friend I think that in Nigeria given the level of hardships we have experienced and still experiencing people think that having money in your bank account is all there is to life.

I believe a lot of pple at aware ..how ever what I snot enforced is assumed not in existence
We are discussing on what is operational and not what is supposed to have been. The success of determining property tax largely depends on proper land registration and adequate documentation. These are however the major low-points hindering effective land management in Nigeria.

Thanks for your point any way

Thank you for the mention bro

The Op of this thread has no idea how much you can make doing menial jobs here.
I do menial jobs currently(check my thread about adjusting status). I posted my last 2 weeks paycheck on my thread plus how much i make at my other job. In a week, i make at least 800USD. Multiply 800USD by 4, that is at least 3200USD in a month. Now convert that to Naira. grin grin grin. i don't need to lie to anyone. I work crazy Hours. Infact, i use to make more than that but since the end of the summer, things has slowed down in the restaurant where i work my main job. Thankfully, i work for a man now who pay 80$ cash per day and we work all day of the month, ALL DAY!!!...Do your calculation and see how much i make

Like i always say, NA WHO COME YANKEE KNOW WETIN DEY
Baba, you don fly reach here!?? cheesy
