Some states in Nigeria today 2017 do not generate 10 billion naira but the Port of Lagos was doing so

BEFORE NIGERIA WAS CREATED

My brother, I have questions for you.

1. Was this before Lagos was capital of Nigeria or after?

2. Was there even an entity back then known as Nigeria?

The Council of Ibos on Nairaland and its environs would love to know. grin

Actually the Europeans brought cocoa among other things like cannabis and Cassava, Guavas, cashews, papayas and mangoes. They encouraged its cultivation across the south of Nigeria but it did not do well in Ebolaland(red soil tins) buut has been very succesful till this day in AkwaIboma axis(The Akwa Iboma are a blessed people).

At the time of this report it was not very significant but growing. you need to bear in mind that this is a crop that had no local value and was risky for farmers without guaranteed buyers.

In the previous century most cocoa was from South American sources but these were getting exhausted today 70% is from West Africa

Typical dumb afonja. We are saying, take your Lagos, and let us separate, Oduo Republic on one side, and Biafraa on another, let see what will happen. You people will not agree despite WE SAYING....TAKE THE LAGOS, AND EVERYTHING WE HAVE INVESTED IN IT; TAKE IT AND GO. But you will not agree because you know you need other Nigerians in Lagos to survive.

Yoruba cannot give you biafra. Ask your senate to push for it. I don't even know why you guys think your destiny is in the hands of Yoruba. Even though you think highly of us, we are not gods , we don't control your destinym

Why did they not open them as ports in 1898
In 1898 there was no Nigeria.

Those other places were separate Colonies under ANOTHER British Governor General who produced reports just like this one.

So How were those places doing in 1898?
Not viable

Why is the ugly woman unmarried?

Why did they not SELECT Onitsha as capital?

What this report shows is how Lagos was way ahead of all of you even before 1914 when Nigerria was created and long before the oil boom of the 1970s

Lagos was merged with Southern Nigeria for the same economic reason that Southern Nigeria was merged with Northern Nigeria

- the cost of governing Southern Nigeria had become intolerable for the protectorate, they needed funding from an external source. In exchange for funding from Lagos, the protectorate government of Southern Nigeria with capital in Calabar was collapsed. Lagos administrators took over the entire South and made their administrative center in Lagos, the new capital.

Basically Southern government folded up to Lagos due to insolvency.

Lagos did favor to South, not other way around. This needs to documented as part of history and truth of the Nigerian nation.

When people talk about how South sustains North, remember Lagos sustained South.

Thank you for clarifying for me. So how about rubber, it did very well in South and West as well but not in East. Was it imported or local?

there are so many species of rubber trees local and possibly imported,Even pawpaw is a sort of rubber tree. It did well in the midwest parts and the cross river areas I think. Not sure if there were plantations with imported trees

Afonjas and their tomfoolery; who is dragging Lagos with you? The fact is Niger Delta oil money, selection of Lagos as Capital Territory, and taxes and duties paid by Nigerians made Lagos what it's today. As Dokubo Asari said...Lagos will be nothing without Niger Delta oil money and monopolization of seaports and airport. If they should open Port Harcourt, Calabar, Warri, Onne and Onitsha seaports and riverport, as well as Enugu, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Asaba and Uyo airports to full and complete international status( in deeds not in words...without interference by federal government), LAGOS WILL GO BANKRUPT.

BTW, do you know how much I paid in taxes last week for my business in Lagos? If you know, you will lie down and thank me for supporting Lagos, and in turn, that money used to pay yorubaa civil servants, your father and mother included. So thank us for supporting you people if not hunger for done finish una. SMH

Lagos parasitic life even began since 1889.

Wha's this one saying?

The biggest palm oil producers were Ondo, Edo and the former akwa-Cross! 2 were in the western region and Ogun state was themajor cotton producer.

Do we hold them down, that they were telling us to free them?

Is there destiny in our hands grin grin

Instead of them to go and prostrate before the mallam in aso rock, they were telling us here to free them..

If Yorubas are too powerful to hold igbos down cheesy,

The bulk of the Revenue was generated through commodities such as:
Cotton goods
Palm Oil
Palm Kennel
Rubber

None which is produced in Lagos, yet all glory goes to Lagos. This shows that Lagos has been parasitic from time immemorial. Let me join them in hailing Lagos:

The bulk of commodities are sold in New York and New York produces none why? Is it parasitism? You are uneducated so you cannot understand Capital markets just container loading and unloading.

Customs was generating £180000 which is the equivalent of £1620000 or 8.1 billion Naira in today's money.

bear in mind that this was in the earliest days of that port.

The point is the Port as a cash cow long before Nigeria existed so do not tell me it was built with Nigerian money
