New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie's wife Mary Pat was pulled over on April 10 for driving with a cellphone in her hand during the state's crackdown on distracted drivers.



Mary Pat Christie was stopped while driving with a cellphone in her hand on April 10 in Bernardsville by a police officer assigned to the grant-funded program that targeted texting and other distracted driving.


She didn't identify herself as Republican Governor Chris Christie's wife.

But she did tell the officer she wasn't making a call.



The officer, identified as 27-year-old Timothy Richard, told her she could not have the phone in her hand while driving.


Richard, who had just been sworn in three months earlier, had no idea he had pulled over the state's first lady until co-workers notified him later.



The first lady appeared in Warren Township Municipal Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of operating a motor vehicle while using a cellphone.



She was ordered to pay a fine of $250.

Mary Pat Christie: Hi officer, how are you?


Officer: Good. Thank you, how ya doing today? The reason I stopped you was your cellphone at your steering wheel when you drove passed me.


Christie: I wasn't making a phone call.


Officer: You can't have it in your hand at all ma'am. I can't tell what you're doing when you do that and when it's in your hand you're looking down at it, it's against your steering wheel. How's your license? You have anything on it?


Christie: Uh, no


Officer: Ok, be back in a minute, alright? Here's your stuff back. Unfortunately I'm a grant detail for distracted driving so I have to write the ticket for the cell phone, OK?


Christie: Oh yeah I know what - (unintelligible)


Officer: There's a phone number on the back.


Christie: So I can't actually (road noise)...you can write a ticket (unintelligible)...


Officer: Ok


Christie: I can't


Officer: You can't have your phone in your hand at all. It has to be all, like, no-touch, through the radio in the car. It's up to the judge. Depends on what offense it is and how your license looks.


Christie: So no...no.... what if you've like, a coffee in your hand?


Officer: Technically according to the law if it's distracting you can't have coffee in your hand or anything else either. But it's cellphone distracted driver month so that's what


Christie: Was I not looking at the road?


Officer: You were looking down at your phone. You wanted to ask me with both your hands. I didn't know what you were doing I just saw the phone in your hand.


Christie: I'm trying to follow the law


Officer: Yeah, yeah, unfortunately wrong place, wrong time, right?


Christie: Can you tell me, you know, the sentencing hearing?


Officer: It's going to be a Bedminster judge, it's a shared court. Judge Howes.


Christie: (Unintelligible)


Officer: It's Somerset County. Yes ma'am. Alright,m have a better day, alright?

When are we going to see a first lady in Nigeria driving alone without sirens and police escorts?

Such a thing can only happen in a sane cline where nobody is above the law unlike Naija where some people are above the law.

If this had happened where I come from.

Just see the way the Police de discuss with her like friends. Indeed, Police is your friend!

This can only happen in a ''country'' and not an association of different ethnic groups and people like Nigeria. She was even driving herself although she is a firstlady,without long convoy of all security agencies,retinue of aids,female party members and representatives of the media.

Here in Nigeria, the wife of a local government councillor moves around with policemen.
That of our governors move around with both policemen, navy and army with up to 12 cars in their convoy.
America is a sane Cline. That policeman would be cooling off in prison now assuming he did that in Nigeria.
He would be in more trouble and have a fate worst than death befall him for daring to charge Oga's madam for magistrate court.

The problem with Nigeria is not her diverse ethnic groups, but the corrupt people, people who loot without looking back, people who feels they are greater than the law because the hold some little position, split Nigeria into 9 country, that won't solve the issue on ground, we need to tell ourselves the truth.

I don't need to proof anything to you, the average igbo ,Yoruba, ijaw, Hausa etc are not my problem, they are not the reason my state & country is underdeveloped. they're not the reason why police keeps collecting bribe.

We have a bad system, even if you split Nigeria into 100, the same people we have ruling us now will be the same criminals ruling then. so I see no reason why we should blame our problem on diverse ethnic group .

Bayelsa state for example is 98% ijaw, about 1-2% urhobos, just tell me any meaningful thin in that state, even with her huge revenue allocation, a state with a population less than 2million ?

Another example is Lagos state, forget all those rubish you read online, Lagos is a big slum, even with all her potentials what have they done with it?, instead we have the likes of tinubu ruling the state indirectly. is Lagos not 99% Yoruba?

Our problem is corruption, criminals, looters, deal with that and 90% of our problem is solved.

u got me wrong. U should have followed your quote from where I wrote ''association'' and it is different from a ''federation''. In a federation,even with uncountable number of ethnic groups,people and languages,the federation still acts as one unlike Nigeria where we are all like strange bed fellows. The hausas/fulanis act as if they are in their own country. Same with igbos yorubas and other regions. All these groups are living in a farsical or false federation called Nigeria which in a right language is an association. This is why obj can never be in jail even though he deserves it,the yorubas will protect him. Same with IBB,Abdulsalami,pmb and others,the hausa/fulani will protect them.Gej also deserves jail but his region will protect and defend him. We are all living in a country of cacophony.
