Injuries are unavoidable. From knife cuts,to stepping on a piece of glass,at some point in our lives whether at home,or at work,we are unfortunate to encounter injuries.

Injuries that result to bleeding are very common, but minor bleeding from scrapes and cuts need to be stopped.

Most times, minor injuries can be treated at home. This, therefore, requires the person treating the injury to keep his hands clean or wear sterilised latex gloves if possible,to prevent infection of injuries.

Here are the 5 ways to stop bleeding at home.
APPLY PRESSURE

Though painful, applying pressure to the wound is one of the best way to stop bleeding. Just place a clean and dry piece of material such as bandage, towel, or cloth on the wound and apply pressure with both hands.

Try and maintain a firm and continuous pressure until bleeding stops.
RAISE AFFECTED AREA

Increase in blood flow results in increased bleeding. Therefore reducing the flow of blood, would help stop the bleeding. For instance,if the injury is on the hand or arm, just raise it above your head or arm.If it is at lower limb, lie down and raise affected area to the level of the heart.
ICE

A cold atmosphere constricts the blood vessels(makes them narrower). This,in turn, allows blood clot more quickly and stops bleeding.

So simple, wrap ice in a clean, dry cloth and place on wound . Don’t use bare hands, since the body temperature would melt the ice.
TEA

Tea contains tannins, which is known scientifically as a hemostatic ie causes blood to clot.Hence, stopping bleeding.

Steep a teabag, place in fridge to cool, apply to wound until bleeding stops.

In addition, tannins is also a kind of antiseptic that kill bacteria and help injury site stay free of infections
PETROLEUM JELLY

Surprise?…Yes! Petroleum jelly, found in most Vaseline products, contains waxes used to protect the skin from excessive bleeding.

WARNING!!!

The above remedies are applied only for minor cuts and scrapes. If the injury is too serious or open,it would be a good advice to consult a health professional. Don’t use the above remedies for very open wound. It might cause infections, irritation or allergies.
Thanks!!
