faridaije:I am not trying to convince you that God exists, that's for you to find out when you die. My point is, if your reason for dropping your faith is because you lost someone that you loved then it's obvious that you never really understood what Christianity is about. |

i am not a religious guy. i remember Jesus said "though you will face persecution but be of good cheer" he didn't promise us that everything will go smooth without trying time. even if you don't believe in the existence of God, that person that died will die. we are first human before religion, any bad thing can happen to anybody. so, erase that thinking that you won't face trying time. stay bless |

faridaije:One died when I was writing my senior WAEC, the other died two years ago. Death comes to us all dear. Even Christ, God's only begotten son died. To live is for Christ and to die is gain Philippians 1:21 |

faridaije:Yeap, My sis was always ill, got pregnant six times, miss-carried five times. She was bedridden for months before she finally accepted the calls from the other side. My bro was healthy when he came home that night but was hit by a mysterious ailment at night and died within months. Yea, I have siblings, we were six. |

The scriptures never said we won't pass through trying times, of cos everyone would, if you decide to conclude that there is no God based on your losses, past disappointments or hurt, what about times when you've been blessed? He says I would have mercy on whom I will have mercy on, does your belief change the fact that he remains God? No it doesn't. Your trials could be a test of your faith in Him. I've seen and had experiences of misfortunes in the past but He still remains God. Haven't you seen where a pastor that heads a church does child dedication every sunday in church and yet has no child of his own, will that stop him from doing God's work or believing in Him ![]() You need to read about the man who wrote the popular hymn (IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL) that most of us sing today.... He won't give us more than we can bear. Please i beg you to have a rethink. |

faridaije:Lols. It was not God's will, it is something that's meant to be. James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man. |

faridaije:Exactly. Every verifiable promise that religion makes has been verified to be false. Only the unverifiable promises - such as the promise of an afterlife - seem to stand. To religious people: Would you trust a friend if, of all the promises he ever made to you or other people, the only ones that could not be proven false were the ones that could not be verified? |

faridaije:You and I tow the same line of thought. I'm not an atheist, but heck, I repudiate religion. So, what makes me renounce my religious belief? Seeing that those who call themselves christians or moslems are actually worse than those they call sinners. Like how can somebody who call himself a christian/moslem refuse to pay his/her workers their salary, cheat, steal, lie, fornicate, commit adultery, deceive, engage in homosexuality etc. ![]() |

faridaije:GOD IS NOT TO BLAME FOR MAN'S MISFORTUNE... CHRIST JESUS RECEIVED THE FULNESS OF GOD'S WRATH THAT WE MAY RECEIVE THE FULNESS OF GOD'S FAVOUR AND BLESSINGS.. HE WENT THROUGH SORROW AND GRIEVE THAT WE MAY WALK IN THE FULNESS OF HIS JOY... WHAT ELSE DO YOU FROM GOD? |
| Re: What Caused You To Become An Athiest? by bobowaja(m): 8:04pm On Nov 07, 2017 |
Seun:Exactly, all the promises were all lies to keep people in check........ Just as you rightly said, the only thing left to verify is the promise of the afterlife which of course doesn't hold any water due to evidences around us. |

faridaije: trying time = failing an interview, no job, no children for a while trying time is NOT death, death is the end. Death is not n can Neva be d end it is a transit. Critical thinking. In a nutshell, I just applied the same critical thinking skills I acquired and utilised in my academic pursuits on religion. I used to be a clever ad-hoc, fix n' patch thinker. Just like Ptolemy's epicycle theorem, which created new epicycles to account for the irregular motions of planets in his presupposed geocentric view of the universe, I also had a presupposition of mine: That religion was unquestionably right. As such, any apparent inconsistency was just superficial, and could be explained away by unknown/unknowable ad-hoc variables. This all changed when I asked myself one simple question: "What if religion is questionable and wrong?" This question made it easy for me to see that religion becomes indefensible when the possibility of its fallibility is factored in. So why did it take so long to ask myself that question? I practiced religion for up to 15 years of my life...although, the indoctrination started much earlier than I started practicing, so I didn't have early awareness of other options. Moreover, or, perhaps, even more importantly, religion is a clever self-preserving system. A diabolical one! I think it is well aware of its own inconsistencies, so it doesn't even try to use arguments to fix itself. Instead, it uses the basest of human emotions, fear, to preserve itself. It incorporates horrendous stories with vivid imagery of eternal, unimaginable suffering, which is sure to make even the bravest of souls quiver. These stories are typically used to propagate the idea that it is unquestionably right by means of neutralising dissent. The reasoning goes: "Are you going to dismiss religion just because of an earthly inconsistency whose psychological inconvenience pales in comparison to the severe physical pain you'll suffer for eternity after you die?" I believe this question and all its variants, is what prevents most people from actively questioning religion. Now that I see clearer, this line of questioning is not logical. It casts the cart before the horse. The real question anyone should ask themselves is this: "Are you going to fear stories of eternal burning, as narrated by a hypothesis that is riddled with a staggering amount of manifest inconsistencies and outright lies?" Your call! |
