Drinking plenty of water is very good. The only thing is that it must be done at the right time. The right time can never be immediately after or before a meal. All in all, everything should be done in moderation. grin

FitnessDoctor:
Hello, guy, it's your favorite health blogger, Paul Samuel FitnessDoctor

Take 8 - 10 glasses of water per day.

This is a health rule so many health professionals stick to, in fact, I echo it all over my blog posts anything I get a chance.

Normally, I would recommend you drink according to what your body tells you since everyone's body mass varies, but that might just be bad advice as well.

According to healthcare professionals, there is such a thing as drinking excess water and they complications are deadly.

Healthcare professionals have warned of the dangers of telling people to “drink plenty of fluids” after a woman was admitted to hospital with water intoxication.

After developing symptoms of a urinary tract infection, the 59-year-old increased her water intake, drinking more than half a pint every 30 minutes, which she hoped would “flush out her system.”

However, she quickly fell seriously ill and was admitted to King’s College hospital with dangerously low levels of salt in her blood, a potentially fatal condition if left untreated.

In the British Medical Journal case report, doctors Laura Christine Lee and Maryann Noronha asked: “We frequently advise our patients to ‘drink plenty of fluids’ and ‘keep well hydrated’ when they are unwell. But, what do we mean by that? Are there potential risks of this apparently harmless advice?”

The report describes how their patient’s condition continued to worsen after she was admitted to hospital.

“During her visit to the emergency department, she became progressively shaky and muddled. She vomited several times, was tremulous and exhibited significant speech difficulties,” they wrote.

“Throughout the day she had consumed several liters of water based on medical advice she recalled from previous similar episodes.”

Water intoxication although a well-documented symptom of some endurance sports can be deadly with symptoms including vomiting, headaches and nausea and in serious cases, confusion, seizures, coma, and death.

However, there are lower chances of water intoxication if you are drinking water according to what your body tells you, rather than going overboard because you read online that 8 - 10 glasses of water or nothing else.

So there you have it.

I know the renal system very well and the physiology behind it. infact I'm a physiologist. never is it stated that taking much water will make u lose more sodium via passing out of urine. instead it is d excess water u lose. U should understand the concept of reabsorption and secretion. Also I believe u know there is what we call dilute and a concentrated urine. having enough water in the body, will produce a dilute urine with more Water than electrolytes. however the reverse is the case in concentrated urine. and u don't want to pass out d electrolytes ur body needs. brother u can never understand d importance of taking enough water.
Dude, you do not know more than a high school student on a Physiology with what you wrote above. When do we place patients admitted into hospital having low sodium on oral fluid restriction and replace their urine output with normal saline?

when there is a pathological case, it is always different. I'm talking about a healthy person. Of course when a person is sick, there are alterations in the body. u should know that na. Taking enough water can't make use lose the necessary Na. When u checked the patients, did they tell u they lost sodium via intake of much water? or some other obvious causes. When a person is sick, his lifestyle is under check thus the food and fluids he/she takes. And besides how possible is it for someone to drink water to the extent he passes out the needed sodium in the body. Don't forget the hormone aldosterone which controls the Kidney ability to retain sodium when there is need. Sodium deficiency comes mostly from malnutrition, heart failure and commonly diarrhea and not cause the individual pissed everything out or there is issue in the nephron leading to kidney failure.
I believe as a physician u should know better sir. if it was possible for an healthy individual to piss away all d sodium in their Body cause they take enough water, then majority the world population will be sodium deficient.
It was nice hearing from ur own angle sha. And one thing I know as a physiologist is that, there is no conclusion to research and medical theory. it is subjected to further research, which I think I will love to look into. The possibility of Losing Na+ via intake of much water. it's nice hearing from u again.
